THE INSTITUTION OF ENGINEERS (INDIA)
The Institution of Engineers (India) [IEI] is the largest multi-disciplinary
professional body of engineers, established in 1920 and incorporated
under Royal Charter in 1935. The Institution has been serving the
engineering fraternity for over a Century with its national & international
presence through 125 Centres spread all over India, 6 Overseas Chapters
and 8 Flora. The IEI encompasses 15 engineering disciplines with a
Corporate Membership of over 8 lakhs.

IEI has been recognized as Scientific and Industrial Research Organization

(SIRO) by the Ministry of Science & Technology, Govt. of India and besides
conducting its own research, provides Grant-in-Aid to UG/PG/ PhD
students of Engineering Institutes & Universities.

The IEI is the first professional body to represent India in several

International Bodies, World Federation of Engineering Organization
(WFEO), Indian National Committee – World Mining Congress (INC-WMC),
Federation International du Baton (FIB), Commonwealth Engineers’
Council (CEC), Federation of Engineering Institutions of South and Central
Asia (FEISCA), Federation of Engineering Institutions of Asia and the Pacific
(FEIAP), World Energy Council – Indian Member Committee (WEC-IMC),
International Professional Engineers Agreement (IPEA – Formerly EMF). It
also has bilateral agreements with a number of professional societies
across the globe.
Ever since its inception, IEI has been the forerunner in setting up national
standards for promoting the country’s industrial base which culminated on
the formation of the Indian Standard Institution (ISI), now called as Bureau
of Indian Standards (BIS).
Our SERVICES
 To promote the general advancement of engineering and their
application
 Grant certificate of competency for practice of Engineering
Profession
 Arrange and promote for settlement of disputes in Engineering by
arbitration and act as or nominate arbitrators
 Confer to the Government and other bodies the views regarding
matters directly or indirectly affecting the Engineering profession
 Promote study of Engineering through R & D activities and grants

1
 Encourage elevate and recognize the technical knowledge and
practice of individuals and organizations through scholarships,
awards and other benefaction
 Pioneer in providing Non-formal Engineering Education (popularly
known as AMIE Exam).
 Inculcating and promoting amongst engineers and technologists a
growing commitment to the social objectives of the profession.

IEI has completed 102 years of its services in Engg. Advancement for
Nation building. As a part of this, The Telangana State Centre of IEI is
organizing National Conventions, Seminars, workshops, and Round Table
Conferences etc., to disseminate and updating of engineering and
technological knowledge among its members, through Technical Activities.

THE INSTITUTION OF ENGINEERS (INDIA), TELANGANA STATE

CENTRE
The Telangana State Centre of IEI is the only and first centre out of 125
centres in the Country awarded with ISO 9001:2015 Certification in the
month of April 2022 in the 102 years history of IEI. TSC is the legacy of
erstwhile Nizam’s Hyderabad State Centre, formed on 28th August 2016
after bifurcation of AP State Centre. IT has 10000+ corporate members on
its rolls and 19000+ non-corporate members in its fold.

It is one of the most active centres of IEI which engaged successfully in

translating the objectives, vision and mission of IEI into practice. Within its
formation of 6 years, TSC bagged Best State Centre award for 2018-19,
2019-20 and 2021-2022. TSC has been playing a very important role in
dissemination of information on engineering and contemporary
technology bringing industry, academia, experts and professionals
together on the same platform; by regularly organizing International
Conference / national Conventions / All India Seminars / Conferences /
Workshops and Round Table Conferences, Panel discussions throughout
year almost one programme / event every 3rd or 4th day.

ABOUT THE THEME

The emerging signal processing applications and technologies from
industry and practice perspectives describe our future emphasis on various
activities. The infrastructure comprises of sensors, devices, appliances, and
resources with a combination of modern technologies like, control, power,
instrumentation, and communication. In such a complex scenario, signal
processing techniques are essential to understand, plan, design and
operate the complex future smart electronic systems. The efficiency of these
2
systems is greatly dependent on the selection and implementation of the
advance digital signal processing techniques.

This Symposium focuses on three promising areas namely statistical,

sparse and image signal processing. The goal of signal processing is to
recover characteristics of the underlying process from observed data. The
random nature of the signals underscores the need for statistical
techniques in model formulation, estimation and data analysis. The signal
generated by a mechanical, electrical, or biological system contains
information about the underlying system. The signal is usually observed
with error caused by electrical, mechanical, thermal interference, or
recording error. Statistical signal processing is an important area of
research with extensive applications in the fields of communication theory,
array processing, seismology, and medical diagnosis.

There are many applications in signal processing where the discrete signals
are sparse in some domain such as time, frequency or space i.e. most of the
samples are zero. Compressive Sensing (CS) is the recent trend of acquiring
signals far below the Nyquist rate. It follows the principle of “Measure what
should be measured” rather than “Measure what can be measured”. It finds
potential applicability in the areas where the data is huge and acquisition is
very slow-as in seismic data, medical imaging, remote sensing and
communication networks. Image processing does typically involve filtering
or enhancing an image using various types of functions in addition to other
techniques to extract information from the images. Important examples are
medicine, video production, photography, remote sensing, and security
monitoring. These sources produce a very huge volume of digital image
data daily, more than could ever be examined manually. Efficient storing,
Processing and transmission of digital data remains a demand. Some of the
important applications of image processing in the field of science and
technology include computer vision, remote sensing, feature extraction,
face detection, forecasting, medical image processing, finger-print
detection, optical sorting, argument reality, microscope imaging.
