Caterpillar is pleased to announce the availability of the B-Series Skid Steer Loaders
and Multi Terrain Loaders. The B-Series is a direct replacement to all A-Series Skid
Steer and Multi Terrain Loaders with the exception of the 228, which has been
discontinued. We are adding the 268B Vertical Lift High Flow keeping Cat’s SSL and
MTL Product Line at 15 models. These new machines further increase the reliability,
productivity and product offering to meet the continual growing needs of our customers
in multiple applications.
Marketing Strategy
The key design changes consist of Tier II Complaint Engines with more performance
and horse power, improved operator environment, more high flow options, and improved
serviceability and reliability.
Reliability: The B-Series SSL’s and MTL’s have improved the current reliable machines
in the field through the following points:
x Reduction in potential leak points with hydraulic lines
x Simplified hose routings providing increased protection
x Reduction of required parts
x Simplified electrical harness and routings
x Isolation switch on door to prevent damage
Productivity: The new design brings changes in the cab, engine and hydraulics to
directly increase the productivity of the machines. All cabs have a new contoured door
giving better visibility, cup holder option, air conditioner option on all models except the
216B and 232B, redesigned armrest, and a socket for your mobile phone. All changes
in the cab make the operating environment more comfortable and the operator more
productive.

x Caterpillar Tier II Compliant Engines: All models, with the exception of the
216B and 232B, have been given new Caterpillar turbo charged engines. The
226B, 242B, 247B, and 257B will have a 2.2-liter 3024CT turbocharged engine
and the remaining product line will have a 3.3-liter 3044CDIT turbocharged
engine.

x Hydraulic System: The new product line will offer additional high flow options.
This option will be offered on the 226B, 242B and 257B. The high flow system
mentioned before is different to the current 248B high flow machine. This option
is a gear pump system allowing us to directly compete against our competitors
high flow offering.
The 248B piston pump system will remain the same as today, however we might
call it the High Flow XPS or “Extra Pressure System” (awaiting for nomenclature
approval) in order to differentiate it from the other high flow option on the 226B,
242B and 257B. The XPS system is the premium machine with significantly
more flow and pressure providing the best productivity and power in the market.
The same “Extra Pressure System” will be used in the new 268B, which is a
combination of the 262B size, weight and features, with the premium high flow
system.
o High Flow System (available for 226B, 242B and 257B): This system uses
an additional gear pump mounted on the end of the pump stack to provide
additional flow beyond the standard flow pump. This system increases the
available flow from 15.7 gpm @ 3335 psi to 26 gpm @ 3335 psi and will be
available from the factory as an optional attachment and as a field-installed
kit. Machines ordered with this system will be equipped with High Flow
couplers, standard flow couplers, case drain, secondary aux and work tool
electric.
o High Flow XPS system delivers high flow/high pressure auxiliary hydraulic
flow through a load sensing variable displacement piston pump. It allows
operation at lower speeds to overcome tough, difficult situations that would
stall other systems. This system will provide for auxiliary flow of 32.5 GPM
and 4060 Psi resulting in 77 hydraulic HP to run the demanding work tools.
In addition, there are no longer lines extending above the loader arms.
x Electrical System: This system has been improved with a new location for the
fuse box, improved alternator ratings, and a simplified wiring harness to improve
serviceability.
o The Fuse Box is now located on the panel between the seat and the floor.
This allows easy access and provides ET functionality while sitting in the cab
seat.
o The Alternator provides ample current during peak demand to keep the new,
more compact 650 CCA maintenance-free batteries and an optional 850 CCA
battery fully charged. The following chart dictates the new alternator offering.

Ease of operation:
x Operator Station: New design operator station will bring changes to increase
comfort, visibility, and performance.
o The new Joystick Handles provide more comfort and control. With the
press of a button on the joystick, continuous hydraulic flow can be activated.
An auxiliary hydraulic flow toggle is located on the right joystick for precise
control of flow to the work tool. 2-Speed is activated by a trigger on the left
joystick. The new joystick handles, with more electrical and hydraulic flow
options located on them, provide the operator with control when operating
complex work tools. The new joysticks will be installed on machines ordered
with high flow, high flow XPS (248B, 268B), or proportional flow (all other
orders will receive A-Series style joysticks).
o The pull-down Armrest has been redesigned and molded to allow the
operator’s arms to rest in a more comfortable position.
o A redesigned Front Door (if equipped) has greatly increased visibility with
25% more glass allowing clear line of sight to all work tools. A Loader
Lockout Switch, standard on all new doors, disables the loader arm and tilt
functions while the cab door is open. The new door design allows for easier
entry and exit with a decrease in the stepping height, it’s easier to close from
the seat, and it allows for more forward headroom. A new B series door kit
will be available to retrofit to A series machines.
o Removable, sliding Side Windows (if equipped) allows for easy cleaning of
windows and provides the customer options of having the windows in or out.
o A standard Rear View Mirror offers significantly improved rearward visibility
by providing a panoramic view to the back and sides of the machine.
o An Auxiliary Pressure Relief Button has been added as standard equipment
to the instrument panel allowing for easier disconnection of work tool lines
under pressure.
o An optional Cup Holder is located next to the operator for added
convenience. The cup holder is included in MA11 all weather package.
o An Electrical 12 VDC Power Socket is located next to the left joystick pod on
the panel between the seat and the floor for added convenience to charge a
cell phone, run laptops, etc.
o A new White-Faced Fuel Gauge is now easier to read.
o The Air Filter Restriction Indicator is now a warning light on the instrument
panel in the cab to tell the operator when the air filter needs to be serviced.
o Air conditioner attachment will be available in the all B-Series SSL’s and
MTL’s models, with the exception of the 216B and 232B. The A/C
compressor is hydraulically driven and will produce less engine heat. Lower
maintenance costs are expected from this belt-free system since it will not
require belt tensioning or replacement. Compressor life is increased due to
the fact that a valve instead of a clutch activates this system.
x Dual Self Leveling system will be offered on the vertical lift machines (232B,
242B, 252B, 262B, and 268B). This option allows the operator to raise and lower
the lift arms without worrying about keeping the work tool and load level. Note:
This option may not be available at first shipment.
Versatility:
x The Two Speed option only offered on the previously 236, 246, 252 and 262 is
now available on the 248B and 268B as an option. Two-speed option allows the
customer to increase productivity in an application when low rim pull and high
travel speed are desired.
x A Custom Paint option is available for all SSL & MTL’s and is included in the
price lists. The conditions for a custom color are:
1. An additional cost will be charged.
2. A paint chip or paint specification number to match the color is required.
3. The rear door, cylinders, and cab [wheels and axles for SSL’s] would all
be black.
4. Lead-time is 8 to 10 weeks from receipt of order.
5. Once ordered the custom colored machine order cannot be cancelled.
x Dedicated Dual Directional Controls (Case style pattern) provides an
alternative control pattern while maintaining the precision and feel of Cat’s pilot
operated joystick controls. Anti-Stall feature is maintained with this control
option. Find below the diagram, which shows us the different joystick functions.
This option is offered as a kit for 236B, 246B, 252B and 262B.
