Chapter 1
Tanay, officially the Municipality of Tanay (Tagalog: Bayan ng Tanay), is a
first-class municipality within the province of Rizal, Philippines, with a population of
139,420 as of the 2020 census. It is located 57 kilometers (35 miles) east of Manila,
with a typical commute taking between one and three hours depending on traffic
conditions. The Community of Tanay is politically subdivided into 20 barangays (10
urban, 10 rural); Namely: Cayabu, Cuyambay, Daraitan, Katipunan-Bayani (Pob.), Kay
Buto (Poblacion), Laiban, Mag-Ampon (Poblacion), Mamuyao, Madilay-dilay,
Pinagkamaligan (Poblacion), Plaza Aldea (Poblacion), Sampaloc, San Andres, San
Isidro (Poblacion), Santa Inez, Santo Niño, Tabing Ilog (Poblacion), Tandang Kutyo,
(Poblacion), Tinucan, and Wawa (Poblacion)
In the 2020 census, the place had 139,420 people, with a population density of
700 residents per square kilometer or 1,800 inhabitants per square mile. The majority of
the population are Tagalogs who reside along Laguna de Bay, but there are also a
substantial number of mountain dwellers in the municipality's northern area. The town's
main industries include fishing, agriculture, and regional commerce. The Sambalic
languages have their origins in Tanay, where the etymologically related Sinuana or
Remontado Dumagat is still spoken in settlements in the Sierra Madre highlands
between Sampaloc and General Nakar, Quezon.
Sitio Tu-oy, Brgy Cuyambay, located in Tanay, Rizal is a remote community in
Tanay's central region. According to our group's assessment, their town lacks or has a
shortage of the most basic human necessities for a decent life, such as water supply,
power, education, and health care demands and facilities. Most households utilize solar
electricity, but it is insufficient since the panels are tiny and only receive a little amount
of energy. Furthermore, it was said that education and health care services are difficult
to reach for them because of narrow and steep roads, making getting from one location
to another difficult in their neighborhood. Another reason for such difficulties is because
Sitio Tu-oy doesn’t have any health care facility in their area, and the resources are
limited. It was also said that schools are far from the people who live in the
neighborhood hence, the students living there had to walk a distance before getting to
the school.

Chapter 2
During the observation and surveying in the community, the group observed the
surroundings and the environmental issues present in the barangay. Electricity, water,
Education and health were the major problems presented in the community. Due to the
rough roads and uneven terrains, the people who live in Cuyambay, Rizal, face these
problems in their everyday lives. Solar panels were present in the area, but solar panels
were not enough to sustain their electricity problems without the help of government
officials due to their isolated place. The water system in Cuyambay Rizal has a river and
a water pump; they were enough to continue the daily basis of the people who live
there. The water content is also a major problem because of the diseases present in the
water, many people in the surveyed suffered from diarrhea. Also, they affect the health
and performance of the people who live there. Education is the most crucial need in a
community. Based on the survey conducted, most of the people there attended
elementary school. They have a hard time understanding English words being spoken
to them by the interviewers. It shows how little attention was given to them by the
government of Rizal in education systems in the community/ barangay. Going to
Barangay Cuyambay has uneven terrains and rocky roads. The transportation mode
used by the people were motorcycles or walking. Most of the people who live there use
their surroundings for transportation looking for shortcuts etc. Schools in barangay
Cuyambay were far from the barangay. Kids struggle to walk from their house going to
school, they experience hardships while crossing the river, walking up to a mountain
before reaching their school. When an emergency happens in the area, vehicles are
unable to come due to the limited transportation. Kids who go to school via service are
also unable to come when a disaster strikes like: Thunderstorms and Landslides.
People in Barangay Cuyambay experience different kinds of diseases. Medical centers
are present but, with limited supplies coming to them, they have no sustainability to
provide each household their needs. The closest hospital is along the highway, but with
the uneven terrains and rough roads most of the people are unable to go there due to
how far the hospital is.

Chapter 2.1: Situational Analysis
5
2.1.2 Population/Demography
Cuyambay is located in Luzon at 14.5789, 121.3410. The municipality covers
200.00 square meters or 77.27 square miles. Accommodating for 16.91% of Rizal’s total
land area. The population in Cuyambay grew by 2,767 individuals in the last 30 years,
from 1,345 in 1990 to 4,112 in 2020. The most recent 2020 census data show a 7.63%
increase, or 1,213 people, from the previous population of 2,899 in 2015. According to
the 2020 census, the population of Cuyambay, Tanay is 4,112 people. This represented
2.95% of Tanay's total population. Barangay Cuyambay has a total of 60 households.
Based on our group's survey there are 27 males and 60 females x 100 = 43.54%
according to our survey.
2.1.7 Limitations
A project that could ultimately help families in the Cuyambay, Tanay Rizal is
receiving help from the IFAD (International Fund for Agricultural Development).
Combining the implementation of family planning services would allow stable incomes
6
and economic growth. The IFAD works to finance irrigation, promote rice production,
increase income, food, education and healthcare. It also increases the number of loans,
focuses on upland and coastal areas, and provides resources all of which the
Cuyambay Tanay, Rizal desperately need. This is especially important because it has a
focus on not only the poorest barangay in Tanay Rizal, but also because it can
implement finances to boost the economy and get more financial support all throughout
the residents of Cuyambay.
7
provide efficiency and effectiveness to the people residing in a community/barangay.
Asking the government for funds to fix road conditions in the area. Actions like these
can benefit the people who are living in isolated places especially in Barangay
Cuyambay, this will improve their day to day basis and remove struggles with their mode
of transportation in a different area.
As seen in the decision matrix above, after thorough analysis of the specified difficulties,
it has been determined that the problem with water is ranked first, followed by the
problem with school facilities, roads, and electricity. These are the top concerns that
8
require urgent attention and resolution in order to improve the quality of life for the
community affected by these issues. It is imperative that effective measures are taken to
address these problems in a timely and efficient manner.
In Tanay, the municipality’s Rural Health Unit (RHU) has made it a top priority to ensure
that all residents have access to quality health care services. The RHU has
implemented several programs and initiatives to improve the health and well-being of
the community, such as:
● Expert Maternal Care - during pregnancy, childbirth, and the postnatal period is
of utmost importance. It is the role of healthcare professionals to assist and
support women during this delicate time in their lives.

Chapter 3
The First Aid & Medicine Kits For Everyone: Making Health Care Accessible for
People Living in Sitio Tuoy, Cuyambay project seeks to increase awareness and provide
knowledge on how to utilize first aid and medicine kits and be prepared in an instance of
an emergency. One of the main issues in the community is their road. It is not very
accessible for them, especially when they have emergencies because the ambulance
cannot go inside the Sitio due to a small lane they have. According to the residents,
they must ride a motorcycle before they can go outside the Sitio for an emergency
matter, and the ambulance should travel 10 to 25 minutes before they reach ahead to
the Sitio Tu-Oy because the hospital is on the highway.
10
challenges/problems on a day to day basis. These problems can be solved through the
joint cooperation and assistance of the local government and the residents of Brgy.
Cuyambay.
11
3.2.2 The Alternative Tree
Most of the residents living in the areas of Sitio Tu-oy don't have a lot of wealth
that they can use to raise funds to unlimitedly access healthcare services and facilities
in their community. However, having one of the kits and improving their facilities is
possible to accomplish with the assistance of the local government and other
Cuyambay officials. This is significant to the community for when the group got there
this was one of the main problems that we observed and experienced in the community.
Furthermore, going outside to go to school, work, and, most importantly, to a healthcare
center are a little bit hard to reach due also to the problem at hand.
3.2.3 Timeline
In Sitio Tu-oy, Cuyambay, the "First Aid & Medicine Kits For Everyone" project may
go through several stages, including planning, fundraising, acquiring first aid and
medical supplies, instructing locals in fundamental first aid procedures, and dispersing
the kits. The anticipated implementation day is May 18, 2023, when the team will have
completed the phases that remain. At that time, the needs ought to be ready and
finalized.

and health related beneficiaries. This will overcome their problems with overall health
and have accessible medicines that will help them through. Medicine Kits also help
them to have self awareness with diseases around then and can cure them with ease.
4.3 Goal(s)
The goal of this program is to give first aid and Medicine kits to reduce the risk of
common health issues in the area. As proposed, the group intends to provide first aid
kits with common medicines, organized by items and function to make it more
accessible, as well as to ensure that any potentially life-threatening or long-term health
deterioration consequences are identified as accurately and quickly as possible and
stabilized while professional care is sought.
16
4.6 Strategies/Outputs
Residents of Cuyambay, Tanay Rizal will be trained and educated about the
contents of the first-aid and medicine kits provided by the group. With a demonstration,
the group would also discuss the purpose and function of each material. Furthermore,
they would be given specific instructions regarding the medications that the group is
going to give in order to avoid unfavorable outcomes and so that they can perform basic
first aid as well as identify illnesses and their medication or remedies while waiting for
professional healthcare or personnel is sought.
4.7 Activity
Residents of Sitio Tu-oy Cuyambay, Tanay Rizal will be trained and educated
about the contents of the first-aid and medicine kits provided by the group. With a
demonstration, the group would also discuss the purpose and function of each material.
Furthermore, they would be given specific instructions regarding the medications that
the group is going to give in order to avoid unfavorable outcomes and so that they can
perform basic first aid as well as identify illnesses and their medication or remedies
while waiting for professional healthcare or personnel is sought.
Furthermore, we ought to fully utilize the media's role. Family first aid kit
preparation behavior is related to the demographic, sociological, and personality
characteristics of the public. This suggests that emergency knowledge education should
not be "across the board" and that appropriate and targeted educational interventions
should be made for individuals of various ages, educational levels, regions, and income
levels. Different personalities have distinct characteristics, and the degree to which they
comprehend and accept news from the media varies. When the relevant departments
are aware of the public's awareness of the epidemic, popular science content and
language expression can be prioritized in accordance with a person's personality traits.
For instance, people who are more open to new experiences and ideas will be more
receptive to them. The media can use novel approaches to attract this type of audience
at the beginning of popular science education to promote first aid knowledge, guiding
readers to comprehend and acquire comprehensive emergency preparedness
knowledge. People who are more agreeable are more willing to make decisions that are
good for society and other people. As a result, in order to attract the attention and
recognition of this kind of reader, we can focus on learning emergency knowledge and
the advantages of preparing family first aid kits in light of the media's popularization of
first aid knowledge.
17
public emergency education. Additionally, we should effectively improve the public's
mastery of emergency knowledge and skills, self-efficacy, and emergency attitudes.
4.9 Timeframe
The implementation of this program is set to be conducted by the members of the
group sometime during the month of May year 2023.
18
Chapter 5
During the course of the program's implementation, the group may conclude that
the program was successful and beneficial to the residents of Brgy. Cuyambay, Sitio
Tu-oy. As health allied students, it is in our best interests to be able to aid and serve the
public as well as reduce the risk of common health issues in the area. Thus, the group
proposed providing first aid kits with common medicines, organized by items and
function to make it more accessible, as well as ensuring that any potentially
life-threatening or long-term health deterioration consequences are identified as
accurately and quickly as possible and stabilized while professional care is sought. It
was also during this period that residents learned the basic and common knowledge
regarding how to care of their health. During this event, residents of the area have
shown a strong desire to learn more about the task at hand. The program progressed
slowly but effectively with the support of our groupmates and professor.
Prior to the answer and spin activity the group will go house to house to provide
each household with first aid and medicine kits; and then, demonstrate the basic first aid
actions and treatments for people to remember and leave some reminders regarding
medications as well as emergency contact information for the residents. To achieve this
activity, each student, with the assistance of their professor, must have Medical
Information stored in the kits, including emergency contact information and special
medical requirements. Furthermore, the group will show and leave reminders and
practices for each household's parents/caregivers so that they can perform basic first
aid as well as identify illnesses and their medication or remedies. The group decided on
an answer and spin activity, in which we will ask them questions about the
demonstration of basic first aid actions and treatments, as well as medication reminders
that the group taught to the community. If they answer correctly, they will spin a wheel,
and the wheel will determine the prize that they will receive.
With the prevalent concerns and difficulties that we have previously discovered in
Sitio Tu-oy, the outcomes of the activities will show that the people in the community will
be able to learn about basic first aid actions and treatments, as well as what medicines
can be taken while professional health care is sought. Furthermore, because their only
health center is far away and some roads are difficult to access by car, this project will
prove its purpose and demonstrate that it is beneficial to residents to have first aid kits
with common components and medications commonly found in kits, such as Band-Aids,
betadine, cottons, alcohol, paracetamol, vitamins, and so on.
19
5.3 Accomplishments
The primary objective of the group is to bring healthcare closer to the residents of
Sitio Tu-oy, Brgy. Cuyambay. Hence, the achievements that this program aims to
achieve is the ability to prepare everything and work within the time frame provided prior
to the planned implementation date. Another goal is to be able to provide assistance to
all, if not all, of the houses in Sitio Tu-oy, Brgy. Cuyambay first-aid kits stocked with
common medications. Furthermore, the group intends to educate residents on the
proper use of the components of the kits provided to them to ensure the proper use of
the materials given.
Given that the community being served is difficult to reach due to its location, the
challenges in achieving the program's 100% success are caused by a shortage of
manpower to cover both the chosen area and the other locations due to the large
population. Aside from the narrow and steep roads, people say that the area is dark at
night owing to a lack of lighting and that businesses and houses are spread out.
Furthermore, some residents stated that there are NPAs in certain areas, which is why
visitors need to be cautious when visiting specific sites, as well as making it difficult to
move from one location to another in their neighborhood. Furthermore, the group's
financial situation is viewed as a constraint because the materials required for first-aid
kits, as well as the cost of the drugs that the proponents would provide to each
household in Sitio Tu-oy, are somewhat expensive.
20
Chapter 6
Students from World Citi Colleges will provide vitamins and food supplements for
the individuals who are residing in Barangay Cuyambay. Vitamins and food
supplements will be in a package so that it can be distributed easily. The children will
have cough syrup and candies that can strengthen their body and muscles. For elderly
they will have vitamins that can support their weakened bones. With the help of local
residents, they can ask barangay officials for the nearest pharmacy to resupply them for
their needs. Align with our course Medical Laboratories Students, proper nutritional diet
and vitamins are a necessity for the children and elderly. Annual Check ups are also
one of the factors that will help boost their overall health.
