the value of literature in contemporary society

Literature is one of the most important parts of contemporary society. It

informs us about our world, and it allows us to understand ourselves and
others. Literature can be thought of as a mirror that reflects the world around
us, but that also offers insight into our own lives.

Why is it literature interesting?

Literature is interesting in the same way travel is interesting. Literature
provides a gateway to worlds very different from your own. Literature allows
you to glimpse, as if through a neighbor's window, people you might never
otherwise meet and cultures you might never otherwise have an opportunity to
explore. Literature goes one step further than travel in that it allows you to
time-travel: You can experience the American South during the antebellum
period through the eyes of Mark Twain's Huck Finn or Spain during the
Spanish Golden Age (1600s) through the eyes of Miguel de Cervantes' Don
Quixote. Not only can literature make you wiser, as it expands your horizons,
but it can make you kinder and more tolerant, as you learn about and
empathize with literary characters whom you might otherwise fear or avoid.
Literature is available in your local bookstore or library. Never stop reading! To
me, literature, and also non-fiction, are one of the best things in life - a
priceless treasure!

What is the importance of literature?

Literature is a mirror that humans hold up to the world, to themselves and to
history. It can show us who we have been, who we are, and who we may
become. No matter how odd you are, no matter how alone you feel, there is a
writer out there with whom you will feel kinship- it can just be a task to find
that writer. Sure literature is entertaining, and that’s important. Humans need
good entertainment. But it is the connective value of literature, the way it plugs
you into another human mind, and another person’s thoughts and perceptions,
that fascinates me. And because of this mind to mind connection. literature
teaches us empathy.. So literature is an art that engages us in some of the best
aspects of being human.

What is the significance of literature in our life?

Literature is important in everyday life because it connects individuals with
larger truths and ideas in a society. Literature creates a way for people to
record their thoughts and experiences in a way that is accessible to others,
through fictionalized accounts of the experience.
Literary tradition is both oral and written. Civilizations that existed without a
written language still managed to pass down their stories through oral telling.
Many Native American cultures practice an oral literary tradition. The primary
use of literature in ancient settings was to pass down customs, beliefs and
traditions to the younger generations. In more recent centuries, literature has
taken on a more comprehensive role of mirroring society in order for humans to
study themselves and understand the underlying truths common to all people.
For students, studying literature is a critical component in education, as it
teaches students to see themselves reflected in art.

So, as you see, literature still has much value in the modern world. Even
though there are more popular sources of entertainment, we can’t deny the
importance of books. After all, they tend to bring more meaning into our
entertainment. For example, they teach us the right values. Besides, books
expose some negative traits and tell us about the problems of modern society
and, thus, raise global awareness of such issues.
