Chapter I

INTRODUCTION
Background of the Study

In recent years, the financial stability of senior high school working

students has become a major concern. With the rising cost of living, many
students are struggling to make ends meet. This is especially true for students
who work to support themselves while attending school. Part-time jobs for high
school kids are becoming more common in order to support their families and pay
for their education. However, because students must combine their academics,
work, and other commitments, this can be a challenging balancing act.

According to studies, high school students who work part-time are

more likely to experience financial difficulties. The majority of the time, these kids
are unable to save money for college and may even need to borrow money or rely
on their parents for financial assistance. Academic challenges might also arise for
working students. Working long hours can lead to fatigue, which can make it
difficult to stay focused in class and complete assignments on time. It is unknown
how much influence their work has on their ability to manage their finances or
how they manage their finances to stay afloat. Furthermore, it is uncertain what
tactics and resources these students are employing to maintain their financial
stability.

Working students encounter a number of difficulties in preserving their

financial security. Given the financial difficulties of MRMNHS senior high school
working students, it is critical that the school give support and resources to these
students. This can include financial assistance, job placement assistance, and
mental health care. Furthermore, the school must try to provide a supportive
environment for these students so that they may focus on their academics and
succeed academically.

                   The purpose of this research is to look into the financial challenges of
senior high school working students. This study will specifically look at the factors
that contribute to working students' financial issues as well as the coping
mechanisms they employ. Furthermore, the study will investigate the impact of
financial difficulties on the academic performance of working students. Finally,
the research will look into potential solutions to working students' financial
problems.

Statement of the Problem

The overall objective of this phenomenal study is to determine the

struggles of senior high school working students at MRMNHS in maintaining
financial stability.

Specifically, this study seeks to answer the following questions:

1. How may the profile of respondents be described in terms of

1.1 Age;

1.2 Gender;

1.3 Employment Status;

1.4 Financial Status;

2. What strategies do senior high school working students use to manage their
finances?

3. How will a senior high school working student benefit and learn from
maintaining financial stability?

4. What are the challenges you encounter in maintaining financial stability?

Hypothesis

It is likely that senior high school working students at MRMNHS struggle

to maintain their financial stability due to the lack of available jobs that pay a
living wage, the cost of living in the area, and the fact that they are still in school
and have limited time to work. Additionally, the students may be unable to access
financial aid or other resources to help them manage their finances. As a result,
these students may be forced to take on more work than is healthy or feasible or
to take on jobs that do not pay a living wage. This can lead to a cycle of poverty
and financial insecurity that can be difficult to break.
Significance of the Study
The researcher feels that carrying out this study will not only give data
useful to her, but also to the following:
Senior High School Working Student: The study's findings will assist senior high
school working students in managing their time in school and as working
students, as well as how they maintain their financial stability. The study, on the
other hand, will benefit working students by enhancing their time management
and financial stability.
Future Researchers: The study's findings will serve as a springboard for future
scholars interested in doing a similar study.
Scope and Delimitation
This study will focus on the struggles of senior high school working
students of MRMNHS in maintaining their financial stability. The study will also
examine the techniques for coping and tactics used by students in order to deal
with their financial issues. It will discuss why they work, how much money they
make, and the challenges they experience in managing their education and job.
The respondents will be limited to fifteen (15) senior high school working
students at Marco del Rosario Memorial National High School. The researcher will
conduct semi-structured interviews with senior high school working students of
MRMNHS to gain an in-depth understanding of their struggles to maintain their
financial stability. Furthermore, this study will be done at Pamaldan, Cabanatuan
City, from May to June of FY 2022-2023.
Definition of Terms

The following terms were operationally defined and may help for a
clearer and better understanding of how they are used in the study:

WORKING STUDENT: a student who, in addition to their full-time studies at a

university or a state-accredited university of applied science, is employed by a
company on a more-than-marginal basis.

Senior High School is two years of specialized upper secondary education;

students may choose a specialization based on aptitude, interests, and school
capacity. Financial stability is a condition in which an economy's mechanisms for
pricing, allocating, and managing financial risk are functioning well enough to
contribute to the performance of the economy.
