l2.3.7 GOVERNOR
Regulateurs Europa VIKING 22 digital controller and 2231 hydraulic actuator.
The Viking 22 controls engine speed throughout the speed/load range and
provide the necessary logic for pushbutton bridge start/stop, emergency
shutdown and interfaces via 4-20mA signal with the bridge controls supplied
by others. The engine actuator has a back up ball head for emergency
operation.
l2.3.8 CONTROLS
The engine can be started and stopped locally by means of engine mounted
fuel pump control lever and air start button. Additional equipment to facilitate
remote starting is also provided.
l2.3.9 INSTRUMENTATION
An instrument panel is mounted on the engine and accommodates the
following gauges and instruments:
Fuel pressure
One electrical tachometer read-out instrument (non-illuminated).
• Thermometers for:
Charge air after charge air cooler
Lubricating oil, inlet and outlet of cooler
Fresh water, inlet and outlet of plate cooler
• Tachometer generator.
The cooler thermometers are supplied loose for proximity fitting to the coolers
and this work together with the interconnecting pipework off engine is left to
Shipbuilders supply.
The system consists of 2 engine room alarm units and one ante-room alarm
unit per side together with a bridge alarm unit to monitor forward hydraulics,
bridge and system generator alarms. The input/output devices provided on
the bridge are: visual display units (2), keyboards (2), power supply unit with a
backup battery and printer.
l2.3.12 ROTATION
lEngine rotation counter clockwise looking on flywheel face.
l2.3.14 PAINTING
lThe internal structure of the engine is painted with one coat of
oil resistant paint. The external surface is painted with one coat of
oil resistant primer, plus one coat of oil resistant paint.
• 2.3.17 TOOLS
One set of tools per vessel - for maintenance and overhaul of the engine
comprising:
• Turbocharger tools
• Cooler tools

Aft. A 400L hydraulic reservoir plus a reserve tank of 100L capacity, one in
each hull supply inner and outer jet manoeuvring, ride control system, aft
capstans, ramp, roller door, lift and dingy davit. Each unit is fitted with two
electrically driven pumps and one PTO driven pump. The PTO driven pumps
is the primary supply to the ride control at sea. The electrically driven pumps
supply peak demands to the ride control in rough seas and to the jets when
berthing and prior to engine start. Either pump supplies the ramp, capstan,
roller door, lift and dinghy davit.
The control system is able to anticipate the motion of the vessel in rough
conditions and signals the hydraulic power system to move the control
surfaces to damp the motion. The ride control reduces pitch, roll and bow
heave motions and associated vertical and lateral accelerations. The operator
can adjust the gain on pitch, roll and heave motions to optimise the systems
performance for a specific sea condition, wave direction and speed.
Refer to Part 4 of this manual and Maritime Dynamics instruction manual for
further particulars.
