Multi-monitor Workstations
A Control Core Services workstation can support multiple monitors. The Control HMI
supports one, two, or four monitor setups. See the “Configuring Multi-Monitor Layouts”
section in Framer and Alarm Management User Guide (B0750AR).

Chapter 1: Introduction to Control HMI Control HMI User’s Guide
Monitor Resolutions
Control HMI supports two monitor resolution settings - 1280x1024 or 1920x1080.
Monitors with 1920x1080 resolution have a larger display than monitors with
1280x1024 resolution. The 1920x1080 resolution monitors require Framer to be
configured for better definition of what is displayed on the screen.
Control HMI supports two different resolutions. This is accomplished through the
definition of Station Styles. All workstations and remote terminals have to be assigned
to a style. By default, all stations belong to the default style of the installed application.
No additional configuration is needed. Stations that are not using the default style are
the only stations that need to be configured.
See Framer and Alarm Management User’s Guide (B0750AR) for details on
configuring Styles and StyleGroups.
Control HMI application has a default station style of “Widescreen”.
Key Station Style Features:
• Place 4:3 formatted windows on each monitor
• Customize Menu Extensions and Function Bars for each monitor
• Define Detail Display locations
• Add custom features to Station Styles
Control HMI also supports migrated windows from Legacy 4:3 applications as well as
the ability to display widescreen formatted windows. All windows need to be assigned
to a window style. By default, all windows belong to the default style of the application.
Windows that are not using the default style are the only windows that need to be
configured. See Framer and Alarm Management User’s Guide (B0750AR) for details
on configuring WinStyles and Window Assignments.
Key Window Style Features:
• Automatic placement of 4:3 formatted windows on each monitor
• Automatic user notification when viewing 16:9 windows on 4:3 stations
• Add custom features to Window Styles

Configurators
The configurators are:
• WindowMaker™
• Framer
WindowMaker
WindowMaker software is the window builder/configurator used to create and
maintain graphic windows for viewing process dynamics.
Use WindowMaker drawing tools to:
• Create process windows representing the plant, a process area, or a portion of
the process
• Connect graphical objects to process variables and operator picks, providing
dynamic updates as a method of interacting with the process
For more information, see the WindowMaker help or the InTouch documentation.
Framer
Framer is used to:
• Configure the hierarchical structure of process graphic windows. This tree defines
the up/down/right/left relationships among InTouch windows. This hierarchy can
be up to three levels deep.
• Assign windows and alarm tags to hardware annunciator keys and to the
navigation hierarchy.
• Configure common alarm queries and other InTouch properties.
• Configure Control HMI runtime properties such as text message, monitor layouts
and quality displays.
• Configure user role permissions for access to Control HMI runtime features.
• Define station and window styles.
• Assign stations to station styles.
• Assign windows to window styles.
Printer Setup
The default graphics printer is the default workstation printer.

Read-Only Mode
Control Software contains a Read-Only View Engine. Instances of Control HMI that
are deployed to this View Engine will run in Read-Only mode. When in Read-Only
mode:
• There is no access to the Tools menus and applications such as BlockSelect and
PLB Monitor.
• Users cannot acknowledge alarm or silence and mute horns.
• Alarm Panel actions for managing alarm states are disabled.
• Writing to all external connections are disabled.
• All permissions related to Alarm Management, writing data, or accessing tools are
overwritten and set to false.
• Custom alarm queries, filters, and scratchpad setups are disabled.
To create and setup a Read-Only Control HMI, see the Read-Only sections in
“Managed Control HMI Application” in Control Software Deployment Guide
(B0750BA).

You can create named sets of points to be displayed within the trend. For more
information on Wonderware Historian trending functionality, see the Wonderware
Historian Client Help accessible through the Start menu.
Using Scratchpad and Historian Client Trends for the First Time
After you install Control HMI, and open any window with a Wonderware Historian
Client Control for the first time, a system message appears. For example, if you open
a ScratchPad Trend or Historian Client Application for the first time, a message may
appear informing you that you do not have permission to load the required support
entities.
The application properly configures the support entities only if you log in with SQL
administrator privileges. Once configured, SQL administrator privileges are not
required.
When a Wonderware Historian Client application or control connects to a Wonderware
Historian Server, it validates the presence of required client control support in the
Runtime database (for example, stored procedures and tables). If the supporting
entities are not found, the user must log into the Historian Server with an account that
has SQL administrator privileges. This can be done from the Scratchpad Trend control
or the Historian Client Trend application.
1. Right-click the Trend Control and from the context menu, select Tools >
Servers.

The Server Name is not editable from this dialog. Enter a valid Login ID and Password
for the selected server. If the login settings configured with Framer are incorrect, this
dialog will appear each time the Tag Browser dialog is opened. To help prevent this
dialog from opening, specify valid login information through Framer. The operator may
retype new values to login but if the default values are wrong, the operator will need to
login each time the Tag Browser dialog is opened until the settings in Framer are
updated.
The values in the “Timeouts in seconds” field in the dialog has to be set to your
desired values. The default timeout for queries is two minutes. The WindowViewer
application collects data from the server every cycle. If the server is busy or it
disconnects, WindowViewer will try to reestablish communications with the server for
two minutes before timing out. All other window updates and actions will be
suspended until the two minutes timeout expires.
• Connection is the connection timeout in seconds between 1 and 600.
• Query is the query timeout in seconds between 1 and 600.
CAUTION
RISK OF OPERATOR CONTROL LOSS
The WindowViewer application will freeze if the Historian Server is not connected
and a window with a Historian Client Control is opened or is opening. The
WindowViewer application will freeze until this timeout setting expires, or the
Historian Server is connected. When configuring timeout settings, it is
recommended that you set the range to 5-20 seconds to minimize the duration of
timeouts when the connection to the Historian Server is broken.
Failure to follow these instructions can result in operator control loss.
Wonderware Historian Client Help accessible through the Start menu contains
detailed information about standard login procedures and settings.

The Quick Block Editor (QBE) feature is part of the Control HMI application. Clicking
Edit Block from CHMI launches the Control Editor of the selected block in the IDE for
Control Software. This helps eliminate the need to manually search for the Controller,
Compound, or Strategy containing the block in the IDE to launch its editor.
If you have IDE permission configured in Framer, you can access Quick Block Editor
through one of these methods:
• CHMI Tag Bar
• InTouch Scripts
• Graphic Commands
• Pref Commands
When you invoke Quick Block Editor it:
• Launches the IDE if not already launched.
• Brings the IDE to the foreground if it is running in the background.
• Maximizes the IDE if the IDE is minimized.
Quick Block Editor always opens the editor for the selected block in the Blocks tab of
the Strategy Editor of the IDE.

Window Menu
The Window menu opens the Navigation Panel in vertical or horizontal format,
depending on which navigation preference is set, as discussed in Preferences, page
52. Navigation Panels can be used to easily navigate to any configured window.
These panels can identify any windows that are in a configured alarm state.
The Navigation Panels are divided into 3 levels: Areas, Cells, and Units. There are
12 Areas at the top level. Each Area has its own set of 12 Cells and each Cell has its
own set of 12 Units. Every Area, Cell or Unit can be assigned a window and alarm
using the Framer. All active alarms propagate up to their parent level, which enables
the operator to find and identify windows in alarm easier.
Additional information on the navigation hierarchy is available in Framer and Alarm
Management User’s Guide (B0750AR).
The window panels will be shown in vertical or horizontal format depending on
preferences set in the View > Preferences menu. This is discussed in Enabling
Horizontal Navigation/Vertical Navigation, page 53.

68 B0750AQ, Rev Y
Chapter 3: Using Control HMI Control HMI User’s Guide
Prior to the Control Software v7.3, all supported block Detail Displays were built Smart
Symbols and placed into Control HMI windows.
The Control Software v7.3, adds support for ArchestrA Graphic Detail Displays.
ArchestrA Graphic Detail Display are not windows in the Control HMI. They are
ArchestrA Graphic Toolbox symbols that are directly shown, as windows, by the
Control HMI.
ArchestrA Graphic Supported Block Types:
• ECB300, ECB301, and ECB310
InTouch Smart Symbol Supported Block Types:
• All Blocks not listed under ArchestrA Graphics, and are supported by the
FCP270, FCP280, or FDC280.
• See the Block to Symbol Mapping table in Chapter 10 of the Window
Construction Users Guide.
General Features
These features are only available with ArchestrA Graphic Detail Displays.
• Auto positioning of the Detail View.
Control HMI will show the Detail View window on the same monitor as the main
window. The Detail View window will open on the right side of the main window
unless it is too close to the right edge of the monitor. If too close, the Detail View
appears on the left side of the main view
• The Mode options include an option to pin the Detail Displays open while
changing base windows.
• Closing the Main window will automatically close the Detail View window.
• After moving the main window, clicking the main window’s Detail View option will
reposition the Detail View window next to the new main window location.

• A view, on the Detail View window, may have multiple pages of information. The
multiple pages will be accessible via tabs in the main view.
For example, the Module and Channel Status view of the ECB300 Detail view
is divided into four tabs of Channel Status information.
• The larger window size allows for more descriptive text and labels. If string values
are still too long, the symbol will automatically clip the string to fit the window and
provide a tool tip with the full string value.
Layout
When opening a Detail Display, the window that is initially shown is the Main faceplate

Alarm Queries
Alarm panels use a query that collects a set of records from an alarm source. Each
type of alarm panel has its own set of alarm queries. The alarm queries are logically
assigned to the different alarm panels based on what is in the query. For example, the
Device Condition Alarm panel is designed to view alarm records provided by the
Fieldbus Alarm Provider. Any alarm query that collects alarms from the Fieldbus
Alarm provider are assigned to the Device Condition Alarm Panel.
The alarm panels also have the ability to view different types of alarm messages.
When the alarm panel is in Summary mode, the alarm panel shows alarms that are
currently active. When in Historical or Event mode, the alarm panels show a limited list
of the most recent event or alarm messages that have been received by the Alarm
Provider. Default alarm queries that are configured in Framer include the type of
messages to be shown. The type of message also determines where a query is
assigned. For example, any default query that is configured for Historical messages
will be assigned to the System alarm panel.
The alarm query can contain one or more alarm provider queries, each separated by a
space. The format of a query is:
\\Node:0\Provider1\Group \\Node:0\Provider2\Group
\\Node:0\Provider3\Group
• Node is the name of the station where the alarm provider and must include the
‘:0’ suffix
• Provider is the name of the Alarm Provider that is collecting alarm messages.
• Group is the name of the Area or Group of alarms to be shown.
Queries that are defined in Framer or saved at runtime can be selected at runtime in
each alarm panel. Each alarm panel shows the list of queries that is appropriate for
that panel. The criteria for determining which queries are presented with each alarm
panel are listed in this table.

Treeview.
There are several user actions that can be executed from the controls right-click
context menu.
The bottom status bar includes some additional information that may also be useful.
Queries
The alarm panel can have only one alarm query active. The query retrieves all
messages from one or more Alarm Providers. The CHMI alarm Panel supports two
ways to create queries in the CHMI Alarm Panels.
• The Tools action bar which uses Alarm Provider format.
• The alarm control's Query and Filter Favorites dialog that uses SQL Alarm
Query format.
Both formats have the same basic requirements. Each provider query must include
Node, Provider, and Group. These fields do not support the usage of wildcards.
Example formats are:
Alarm Queries support more than just Tagname in the query. They can include any
additional column value:
Filters
One or more filters can be applied to the alarm panel to refine the messages that are
retrieved by the main alarm query. Filters are only applied to the message that are
returned by the main alarm query. Filters do not require a Node, Provider, or Group.
The Alarm Provider Format does not support or show filters. The CHMI alarm panel
supports two workflows for creating Filters:
• The FILTERS action bar which uses SQL Alarm Query format
• The alarm control's Query and Filter Favorites dialog that uses SQL Alarm
Query format
Filters have the same format as Alarm Queries, but do not require Node, Provider, and
Group settings: <ColumnName> <Condition> <Value>
Wildcards
Alarm Provider Format
When modifying the Alarm Provider String in the Tools Action Bar, only the "*" wildcard
is supported in the beginning or end of the Tagname value. It does not support more
than one wildcard, or the use of wildcards in the middle of the value.
Supported Alarm Provider Strings with Tagname:
• \\AW0001:0\IASeries!$System!CMP.BLK.ALMNAME
• \\AW0001:0\IASeries!$System!C*
• \\AW0001:0\IASeries!$System!*NAME

Navigation
The navigation section contains two settings that control the way:
• The operator navigates the electrical data.
• The amount of data shown in the grid area.
The States View deployed data contains two structured pieces of data that is used to
organize the electrical devices. These pieces of data are used to build two hierarchical
views in the Navigation pane. Operators can select the different views by selecting
from the top drop-down list. This setting is available on the ribbon and command bars.
The Electrical Address view is constructed from the values found in the deployed
ORIGIN data column. For example:
ORIGIN: Substation_38EQI / LV_Bench1 / SCD6000 / ATV001
The IEC Address view is constructed from the values found in the deployed
GATEWAY and IEDNAME data. Using the same device information from the previous
example:
IEDNAME SCD_6K
GATEWAY SCD_6KSCD6K/GGIO3$ST$Ind1$stVal
The IEDNAME is separated from the gateway value and the $ information is removed.
This is used to create the hierarchical view. SCD_6K / SCD6K / GGIO3
The Page Size option allows the operator to change the number of items per page in
the grid. It is only available from the States View ribbon bar.
When working with a very large deployed database, performance can slow down. On
a pristine system with 100k records, the time to change pages, sort or filter, takes 3 to
5 seconds when the page size is at 1000. The operator can use this setting to reduce
the page size if performance has slowed.
This option is also useful if the default page size is configured to 250, and the operator
wants to export 1000 records with live values. The operator can change the setting to
increase the number of live values in the current page.
Source Data Status: States View Ribbon Bar and Command Bar Indicators
The States View panel connects to the deployed data file when it opens. This header
section shows the status of the connected data. The status indicators are available
from the States View ribbon and command bar headers.
A new deployed data file is available and not loaded yet. The
data in the States View is not current. Reload is enabled
when new data is available.
While the States View panel is open, it monitors the deployed data. Reload is
enabled when new data is deployed. Click Reload to clear the States View and load
the new deployed data.
Filter Status
Operators can create multiple data and grid column filters. However, it might not be
clear to the operator that a filter is applied if the column Is out of sight, or if the Data
Filter pane is collapsed. These indicators are always visible on the States View
ribbon or command bar to indicate if there are active grid or data filters. Click Clear to
clear all the data or column filters.
Export
Operators can export the content of the grid view to a file. Only the current page
values are exported. If the grid contains multiple pages, use the Append file option to
export different pages to the same file. The Export option is located on the ribbon,
and command bar. It is enabled when the grid contains data.
Exporting a File
XML FORMAT
The XML export file contains two main sections. The <ExportSet> section contains
information about what is exported. The <Taglist> section contains the actual data that
is exported.
Table 7 - Description
ExportTime Time when the export is done. This is used to differentiate among
multiple appended exports to the same file. The TagList data
also contains the time when it is exported
QueryString This informs about what is selected in the Navigation pane.
FilterString This informs about the Grid and Data filters applied.
PageNumber It is the main grid page number that is being exported
The TagList value contains the column and value of the grid cells being exported. The
export time value is the same value as seen in the Export Set when this value is
exported.
In this example, the first and second pages are exported to the same file.
The TagList - export time can be used to see the contents on each page.
CSV FORMAT
The CSV export file contains two main sections. The first section contains information
about what is exported. The next sections contain the actual values that are exported.
Export Information:
ExportTime, QueryString, FilterString, PageNo
3/7/2022 10:12:32 AM,(ORIGIN like 'Substation_38EQI /%') OR

D Show chcked items in the grid
E Check items to show
F Expand/collapse nodes
To find a specific device, operators can enter text in the Find box. Use the Next
or Previous buttons to search the text in the tree. Use the Find list to select
previous search values. The list contains the last 10 search values.
1. Use the Column selector to select the column for sorting the data.
Show Devices that are assigned to SCDs whose names end with 100 or 200.
6. Click the Apply to apply the filter.
7. Click the Clear Filter to clear the filter applied.
NOTE: Checking the Include checkbox does not automatically apply the
filter. The same applies for unchecking the Include checkbox.
Wildcards
The filter string value supports the use of % or * wildcards. Wildcards are only allowed
at the beginning or end of the value. Wildcard characters located in the middle of the
text are considered as literal string values.
Supported wildcard syntax:
A Group Values
B Auto-hide pane
C Filter the list
D Groups
E Runtime values
F Deployed data values
G Sort values
Status Bar
The status bar shows information about the grid and the results of the most recent
user action. It is divided into three sections.
• Quality status of the live values appears on the right side of the Status bar.
• The message showing results of the last action appears at the center.
C Filter bar The operator can filter the data and live values on a single
page.
J Selected Row Click on a cell to view its contents. The selected cell is
outlined and the background color of the selected row is
changed to light gray.
These are the two right-click options available on the
selected cell:
• Copy the cell value to the clipboard.
• Copy the row values to the clipboard.
D Page info Shows the number of pages and the current page number.
Operators can modify the page number to jump to a specific
page.
E Last Page Opens the last page of data. This button is disabled if the last
page is already open.
F Next Page Opens the page after the current page. This button is disabled if
the last page is the current one.
G Page The Page bar shows 10 Page buttons. The page numbers
shown are based on the current page. The highlighted current
page appears at the center of the page buttons.
H Previous Opens the page before the current page. This button is disabled
Page if the first page is the current page.
I First Page Opens the first page of data. This button is disabled if the first
page is already open.
Performance Consideration
Deployed Data Size Recommendations
The size of the deployed database impacts the performance of the States View panel
and the Control HMI. Actions such as filtering, sorting, and paging slow down for
large deployed databases. With 1000 records per page, the time taken to complete an
action is approximately:
While executing different user actions, the Control HMI and States View panel is
unresponsive until the action is completed. The Windows Operating System marks
the Control HMI as unresponsive if the action takes longer than 5 seconds.
NOTE: When working with large deployed databases, consider reducing the page
size to improve performance.
