ACTIVITY PROPOSAL

[Environmental Issues/ Problems]

I. Title and Nature of the Activity {include the what SDG}

From Trash to Treasure: Greening the Future - Waste Management and Plastic Pollution
Awareness Seminar and Recycling Drive. We came up with this project to promote environmental
responsibility and sustainable practices within the school community by raising awareness among
students about waste management and plastic pollution. The Philippines encounters significant challenges
in waste management concerning SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production. Inadequate
infrastructure and improper disposal practices have resulted in plastic pollution in rivers, oceans, and
landfills. The 12th Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) advocates for the promotion of sustainable
consumption and production practices, which encompass waste minimization and recycling.

II. Brief Description, Rationale, and Objectives

Seminars provide an opportunity to educate students of Panpacific University about the

detrimental effects of plastic pollution on the environment, wildlife, and human health. Through
heightened consciousness, students acquire a more profound comprehension of the urgent nature and
significance of tackling these concerns. The seminar provides students with knowledge on appropriate
waste management techniques, encompassing waste segregation, recycling, and conscientious
consumption. This acquired knowledge enables individuals to make informed decisions and embrace
sustainable practices in their everyday routines, such as minimizing disposable plastics and engaging in
regular recycling.

The seminar and recycling drive empower students to improve their surroundings. Furthermore,
they also gain accountability and self-efficacy by actively participating in recycling initiatives, such that
recycling encourages school and community involvement. The initiative engages students, educators, and
families in sustainable practices, creating a cascading effect beyond the school.

Upcycling and other waste management and plastic pollution awareness programs encourage
student creativity and innovation. In a sustainable, creativity-oriented society, people learn to value waste
materials and find ways to turn them into valuable and attractive items. Early waste management and
plastic pollution awareness in students create lifelong environmental sustainability habits. These change
agents share their knowledge and practices with their communities and future generations.

Objectives: This project aims to provide students of Panpacific University with an interactive
and immersive experience and learning opportunity by combining an academic seminar on waste
management and raising awareness about plastic pollution with a hands-on recycling drive. The
educational approach prioritizes experiential learning, dynamic engagement, and the advancement of
environmentally responsible behaviors among school community members.

Objectives of the project include the following:

1. Raise Panpacific University students' awareness of the negative effects of plastic pollution and
the significance of appropriate waste management.
2. Promote responsible waste management to encourage students to implement sustainable
practices.
3. Inspire students to assume responsibility for pollution reduction and environmental conservation
by instilling in them a sense of ownership.
4. Instill in students a sense of responsibility and enable them to become environmental
sustainability advocates on their campus and beyond.
5. Encourage collaboration and community participation.

Environmental Science Third Term, 1std wave, AY2022-2023

Other Important Details: {like program, etc}

Things to do:
1. Organize a seminar on plastic pollution and waste management
2. Conduct interactive discussions and question-and-answer sessions
3. Display educational displays and exhibits
4. Conduct interactive workshops and demonstrations
5. Implement a university-wide recycling drive
6. Promote a plastic-free campus initiative
7. Conduct assessment and feedback

Procedures:
First, we will invite a speaker that is an expert on the environment to deliver a comprehensive
presentation on plastic pollution, its impacts, and the importance of waste management. Then, we
will arrange for a suitable venue, request audiovisual equipment and seating for attendees, and
promote the seminar through various channels, such as social media and posters around the school.

During the seminar, we will address common misunderstandings and questions regarding waste
management and plastic pollution, as well as share success stories and initiatives from around the
globe that illustrate effective waste management strategies. The seminar will encourage active
participation by facilitating interactive discussions and question-and-answer sessions.

In addition, we will set up instructive displays, posters, and exhibits throughout the site to provide
further information about plastic pollution, recycling, and trash management, using visual aids,
infographics, and statistics to engage participants and improve their comprehension. In addition, we
will establish a designated recycling station across campus to collect recyclable materials such as
plastic bottles, paper, and aluminum cans, and we will encourage students to reduce their use of
single-use plastics on campus by providing alternatives and promoting reusable options, as well as
encouraging the use of eco-friendly utensils and containers.

Lastly, we will collect feedback from participants using an online feedback form to assess the
effectiveness of the seminar and recycling drive, and we will analyze the feedback received to
make adjustments for future awareness campaigns and initiatives.
