Observations from the plant visit:

 Shift Operator:

o A job sheet containing the details of the batch to be prepared is handed over

by the Shift in charge. The job sheet contains the prescribed standard

operating procedure wherein the quantities of the various raw materials to be

used are precisely mentioned followed by the temperature at which the

manufacturing process is to be carried out, etc, etc.

o A maintenance and safety score (referred to as CLIT) is kept for each and

every shift operator wherein it is observed whether the particular operator

follows the maintenance and safety standard operating procedures or not.

o A log sheet maintaining the time required to manufacture a particular product

is kept wherein details such as the time at which the task was assigned,

expected completion time, and actual completion time are mentioned.

o Raw Material procurement in certain cases is carried out depending on

competency.

o Frequent quality check is carried out throughout the entire process to ensure

that the Standard Operating Procedure is followed.

o Immediately reports to the Shift in charge in case an anomaly is noticed

(beyond the scope of correction).

 Shift in charge (In addition to the one carried out by the Shift Operator):

o Plans out the time required to manufacture a particular product

o Performs a thorough quality check once the finished good is handed over by

the Shift Operator.

1
o Responsible for primary CLIT evaluation wherein judges whether a particular

operator has followed the maintenance and safety Standard Operating

Procedures (SOPs) or not.

o Responsible for preparing the Root Cause Analysis (RCA) form in case a

batch fails to pass the quality check.

o Broadly responsible for preparing the job sheet containing the details of the

various raw materials, the respective quantities, etc, etc.

 Production Supervisor (In addition to the one carried out by the Shift in charge):

o Responsible for secondary CLIT evaluation wherein judges the check done by

the Shift in charge.

o Correct batch failure in case there has been an unforeseen situation wherein

the standard operating procedure is not followed.

o Maintains the shift communication register wherein the previous reading of

the various operating machines is noted and maintained before handing it over

to the next Shift in charge.

o Performs Manpower Planning i.e., how many Shifts in charge and Shift

Operators would be required to manufacture a particular product.

o Looks after the overall plant cleanliness ensuring proper disposal of harmful

chemicals (bi-products).
