REFLECTION ON THE DEVELOPMENT AND USE OF E-READING

INTERVENTION MATERIALS

Mrs. Sheryl N. Navida introduced the use of E-reading intervention materials

during the LAC session on November 16, 2022. An E-book is a digital or electronic book
that has been formatted into a file that can be read on an e-reader device or app is
known as an e-book. As a form of remediation for pupils with reading difficulties brought
on by the pandemic, this program was initiated. I personally support the intervention
since the school still possesses the tablets awarded to our school to be used during
online classes. It is a fact that children are hooked on gadgets so we must take
advantage of them. Reading books is oftentimes a boring activity to children compared
to reading a digital or electronic book with dynamic layouts. Although I still believe that
reading comprehension is said to be better with physical books, in this era of
technology, public schools must go with the trend. The convenience of e-reading, the
use of tablets or smartphones, includes portable and lightweight, making it easy to carry
around instead of carrying multiple bulky books. For pupils with poor eyesight, they are
provided a range of options for changing the text size and spacing of lines. It is even
more interesting with its images and dynamics. On the other hand, reading on tablets
and smartphones can still be disadvantageous, pupils might go beyond limits in using
their gadgets so a teacher and parental guide is a must.

REFLECTION ON PLAY-BASED INSTRUCTION

Mrs. Sheryl N. Navida reviewed the importance of Play -Based Learning during
the LAC session held last October 13, 2022. I was reminded that play provides
opportunities for children to develop a sense of the world around them through inquiry,
exploration, interaction, and problem-solving. Their thoughts and emotions, explore their
environment and connect what they already know with new knowledge, skills, and
attitudes. Just as moving and playing are important to development, the opportunity to
rest and reflect allows children to learn how to self-regulate their emotions and behavior.
I have learned reasons why play must be a part of teaching for it builds imagination and
creativity; fosters cognitive growth, delivers emotional and behavioral benefits, improves
literacy, encourages greater independence, and promotes physical fitness. Guided play
is self-chosen, enjoyable, and process-oriented. She presented ways to incorporate
play in the classroom like using manipulatives, games, acting out, and use of puppets
that made us more interested in the discussion. For me, play-based learning at the
intermediate level might be minimal yet a good way of unfreezing activities, motivation,
and presentation of lessons to the class.

REFLECTION ON REDESIGNING AN INTERACTIVE ASSESSMENT TOOL

USING ZIP-GRADE

Reflection on redesigning an interactive assessment tool using zip grade was

discussed by Mrs. Sheryl N. Navida, MT-II on October 20, 2022, and left an immense
relief on my part. For a very long time, I have been checking and recording quizzes,
tests, and examinations the traditional way but ZipGrade, a grading app that makes
grading effortless while capturing, storing, and reporting useful data on assessments
indeed a time-saving tool for teachers and researchers who need to collect and process
multiple-choice data will ease this burden. Using this app, completed tests for a whole
class can be marked within seconds with scores being saved and synced automatically.
Pupils can be told their scores even before they leave the classroom. However, I have
foreseen possible difficulties for first-time users like me. I may not master it at once and
be able to enjoy its convenience nevertheless, I still look forward to using ZipGrade
because this will be of great help in saving time.

REFLECTION ON CONTEXTUALIZATION AND LOCALISATION

The topic of contextualization and localization was discussed by Mrs. Pearl Lyn
N. Navata during the LAC session held last October 28, 2022. She enlightened us about
the difference between the two. Contextualization is the process of considering
something about the situation in which it happens or exists while localization is the
process of making something local in character or restricting it to a particular place. I
discovered the concrete meaning of these words through the sessions. I was guided on
how contextualization and localization are used in teaching. The lecturer explained
contextualization thoroughly that if a teacher is teaching about the water cycle, they
could discuss how it works in a real-world event such as a flood or hurricane.
Furthermore, if the lesson is about bodies of water the teacher’s examples are the
Balincaguing River and Abagatanen beach. I discovered that I’ve been using these
concepts from the beginning and that I was not aware of them. Contextualization and
localization are very important in making the lesson more interesting and clearer
because the children can relate to what is seen and heard for the experience is at their
reach.
