SCHOOL POLICY ON GENDER AND DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM
SECTION I.
RATIONALE

In line with the principles and goals set forth in CHED Memorandum Order No. 1 Series of 2015,
titled "Establishing the Policies and Guidelines on Gender and Development in the CHED and HEI's," St.
Thomas More School of Law and Business hereby affirms its commitment to promote gender equality
and inclusivity within our institution. We recognize the importance of fostering a safe, respectful, and
inclusive learning environment that upholds the dignity and rights of all individuals, regardless of their
gender identity or expression.
SECTION II.
OBJECTIVES

The Gender and Development (GAD) Program at St. Thomas More School of Law and Business aims to:
1. Integrate gender perspectives in the curricula, research, and extension programs, ensuring that all
disciplines recognize and address gender issues.
2. Promote an inclusive and gender-sensitive campus culture that fosters respect, dignity, and
equality among all members of the academic community.
3. Raise awareness about gender-related issues and advocate for the elimination of gender-based
discrimination and violence.
4. Empower students, faculty, and staff to become agents of change by engaging in activities that
promote gender equality and social justice.

SECTION III.
IMPLEMENTATION

To ensure the successful implementation of the Gender and Development Program, the following
guidelines shall be observed:
a. Institutional GAD Committee: St. Thomas More School of Law and Business shall establish an
Institutional GAD Committee composed of representatives from various sectors, including students,
faculty, non-teaching staff, and administrators. This committee will be responsible for overseeing the
development, implementation, and evaluation of the GAD Program.
b. GAD Focal Point: The school shall designate a GAD Focal Point who will serve as the primary
contact for all GAD-related initiatives and activities. The GAD Focal Point will coordinate with the
Institutional GAD Committee and external partners to ensure the smooth execution of the GAD
Program.
c. Curriculum Integration: All academic departments shall incorporate gender perspectives into their
respective curricula. Faculty members are encouraged to include topics related to gender and
development in their lessons and facilitate discussions on gender-related issues.
d. Gender-Sensitive Campus: St. Thomas More School of Law and Business shall work towards
creating a gender-sensitive campus environment by promoting respect for diversity and inclusivity.
Gender-neutral facilities and resources shall be made available and accessible to all members of the
academic community.
e. GAD Training and Workshops: Faculty, staff, and students will be offered regular GAD training and
workshops to enhance their understanding of gender issues and promote sensitivity and inclusivity
in their interactions.
f. Gender Mainstreaming in Research and Extension: St. Thomas More School of Law and Business
will encourage researchers and extension program implementers to integrate gender considerations
into their projects and initiatives to address the specific needs and concerns of various gender groups.

SECTION IV.
GAD PROGRAM ACTIVITIES:

To achieve the objectives of the GAD Program, St. Thomas More School of Law and Business will
organize various activities, including but not limited to:
a. Gender Sensitivity Seminars: Regular seminars and workshops will be conducted to increase
awareness of gender issues, stereotypes, and biases, promoting sensitivity and understanding.
b. Women Empowerment Programs: Programs focusing on empowering women in education,
leadership, and personal development will be organized to promote gender equality.
c. LGBTQIA+ Inclusivity Events: Activities will be organized to celebrate diversity and create a
safe and supportive space for LGBTQIA+ members of the academic community.
d. Gender-Based Violence Prevention Campaigns: Campaigns against gender-based violence and
harassment will be launched to promote a culture of respect and safety.
e. Research on Gender Issues: St. Thomas More School of Law and Business will support and
encourage research initiatives focusing on gender-related topics to contribute to the body of
knowledge on gender and development.
f. Community Outreach: St. Thomas More School of Law and Business will engage in community
outreach programs that address gender issues and promote social justice and equality in the
broader society.

SECTION V.
EVALUATION AND REVIEW

The implementation of the GAD Program will be subject to regular evaluation to assess its
effectiveness and impact. The Institutional GAD Committee will conduct periodic reviews to make
necessary adjustments and improvements to the program.

This School Policy on Gender and Development Program shall take effect upon approval by St.
Thomas More School of Law and Business administration and shall be disseminated to all members of
the academic community for their information and compliance.

We firmly believe that fostering a gender-sensitive and inclusive environment in St. Thomas More
School of Law and Business will contribute to a more equitable society and enhance the overall
educational experience for everyone. Let us unite in our commitment to promote gender equality and
development within our academic community and beyond.
