LP DRUM in HRSG
The LP drum in an HRSG (heat recovery steam generator) is a vessel that stores the low-pressure
steam and water from the low-pressure evaporator. The steam drum also contains a number of
valves and instruments that control the flow of steam to the process equipment.
The LP drum is a critical component of the HRSG and is responsible for a number of important
functions, including:
Distributed plate: The distributed plate is a perforated plate that separates the steam and water in
the LP drum. This allows the steam to rise to the top of the drum, while the water remains at the
bottom.
Scrubber: The scrubber is a device that removes impurities from the steam before it is sent to the
next stage of the HRSG. The scrubber typically uses a mist eliminator to remove water droplets from
the steam, as well as a cyclone to remove solid impurities.
Drain pipe: The drain pipe is a pipe that carries water from the bottom of the LP drum to the
feedwater system. The drain pipe helps to maintain the correct water level in the LP drum.
Perforated plate: The perforated plate is a plate with small holes that allow steam and water to pass
through. The perforated plate helps to separate the steam and water in the LP drum.
Downcomer: The downcomer is a pipe that carries water from the bottom of the LP drum to the
evaporator modules. The downcomer helps to ensure that the evaporator modules are properly
supplied with water.
Downcomer to deaerator: The downcomer to deaerator is a pipe that carries water from the bottom
of the LP drum to the deaerator. The deaerator removes dissolved gases from the water, which
helps to improve the efficiency of the HRSG.
Riser pipe: The riser pipe is a pipe that carries steam from the top of the LP drum to the steam
turbine. The riser pipe helps to ensure that the steam turbine is properly supplied with steam.
B-Baffle: The B-Baffle is a baffle that helps to prevent the backflow of steam into the evaporator
modules.
Level controller: The level controller is a device that maintains the correct water level in the LP
drum. The level controller typically uses a float valve to control the flow of water into and out of the
LP drum.
