Unit Topic: Force, Motion and Energy Quarter: 1st

Lesson: Newton’s Laws of Motion and its Applications
Work, Power, and Energy

UNIT STANDARDS AND COMPETENCIES DIAGRAM

LEARNING PLAN

EXPLORE
This unit aims to develop among students the understanding of
force and motion and how these two concepts affect our everyday lives.
Specifically, the students will be able to explore Newton’s Three Laws
of Motion, describe the relationship between acceleration and force, and
illustrate forces that act on a body.
They will also be introduced to the concept of centripetal force;
and will use their mathematical skills to analyze and solve word
problems.

Pre-Assessment
The students will answer a set of questions related to force and motion
via KAHOOT (https://kahoot.it/ ). (Game PIN to be given at the same
time)

Activity #1 Caught on Camera

Watch a video clip showing a compilation of road accidents:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xtz6laJXMMg

Process Questions:
1. How did you feel about the victims? The culprits?
2. What causes of accidents are shown in the video?
3. Can we control motion? In what way?
LEARNING FIRM-UP (ACQUSITION)

video clip to verify your answer and EXPLAIN your observation based
on our online classroom discussion.

Activity #4: Law of Acceleration: Dump Truck vs. Honda Civic

Scenario: Suppose a dump truck collides head on with a Honda Civic.

Which vehicle would undergo greater change in its motion? Why?

A. Based on the scenario given, write your prediction and

explanation.
B. Watch this video clip (https://www.youtube.com/watch?
v=nO7XeYPi2FU) discussing about Newton’s 2nd Law of Motion
and go back to the scenario stated above. Try to verify your
previous predictions after watching the clip thru the following
guide questions:
1. What does the Law of Acceleration state?
2. With constant mass, how does net force acting on the body affect
its acceleration?
3. With constant force, how does the mass of the object affect the
acceleration?
4. How would you compare your motion if you ride a bicycle alone
and with a back ride?

Activity #5: Rocket Launching: Law of Interaction

Ever wondered what propels a rocket upward? Why do you think should
there be such large amounts of exhaust gas in a rocket launch?
(Submit your answers in the discussion thread in Schoology.)

After answering the above questions, watch a video discussion that

correct answer.

Activity #6: It Also Goes Around!

Launch the Roller Coaster Model Interactive.

Interactive
(These will allow the learner to interactively explore the relationships
between the velocity, acceleration, and force for an object moving in a
circle or along a curved path.)
Check out the video clip http://www.teachertube.com/video/263974
which shows situations involving uniform circular motion.

A.3. Identifies
situations in which
work is done and
in which no work
is done

Assessment #2:
MODIFIED TRUE OR FALSE. Write TRUE if the statement is correct
and FALSE if it is incorrect and underline the word that makes it wrong.

Activity #7: Demystifying Work (Working or Not?)

Based on the situations that will be provided, identify which shows that
work is done and provide a brief explanation. (Answers to be submitted
in the discussion thread in Schoology)
Guide Questions:
1. What is your basis in choosing a situation where work is done?
2. When is work really done?
3. What are the factors affecting the amount of work we do?
After the online class discussion, summarize the concept of Work by
accomplishing the Frayer’s Model diagram.

Assessment #3:
LABELING. Based from the pictures that will be provided, identify
whether each of it is showing work is done or no work is done.

Assessment #4: Problem-SolvingShort Paragraph

A specific problem solving exercise will be given which you need to

answer. Then, based on that, write down a brief explanation of the F=ma
formula.
(Submit your answers in the discussion thread in Schoology.)
