TRANSFIGURATION

BOOK

Hogwarts School of Muggles

Made By: Prof. Minverva McGonagall, M.Tr

"Transfiguration is some of the
most complex and dangerous
magic you will learn at
Hogwarts. Anyone messing around
in my class will leave and not
come back. You have been
warned."
-Minerva McGonagall-

History of
Transfiguration

Legend has it that before time was

reckoned, there lived an eccentric (crazy)
old wizard named Belvaius who distrusted
humans so much that he lived alone on a
high hill with only the wooden animals he
carved himself as his companions. Longing
for another life partner, Belvaius began
experimenting with his wand and
incantations in hopes of imparting life to
objects. One day, she performed the wand
movement and chanted the "Conjurus
Incarceous" incantation, and gave life to
her carving.

~HISTORY~
But this creature is no ordinary
animal. These creatures are
exotic and dangerous creatures
that submit to their creators,
and then run and riot in the city
that is just below the hill where
he lives. After that event, the
magicians gathered together to
determine the rules for
transfiguration, which led to the
rules we have today.
2
~TRANSFIGURATION~

Transfiguration is a branch of
witchcraft where the magician
learns to change objects or
objects into something else,
this branch of witchcraft is
very complicated but also very
useful.
Transfiguration is also
inseparable from spells and
swings of the magic wand.

hISTORY OF GAMP LAW
Many years since the transfiguration became a powerful
stronghold in the wizarding world, its abuse is rampant
everywhere. Witches became greedy and tried to conjure
money, obliterate enemies, cheat, so the wizarding
community had to regulate the use of transfiguration.
it was then that a great Magician named Gerrard Gamp
appeared who issued an outline
law to regulate the transfiguration in 1895. This law
became known as Gamp's Law of Elemental
Transfiguration and Gamp's 5 Principal Exceptions.
this law is an explanation of the many fallacies that have
been in the minds of less wise magicians. some of these
unlucky magicians think that transfiguration is the most
powerful magic that can even match the power of god,
but after the gamp law is put forward and recognized in
the magic community, then the mistakes that occur little
by little can be eliminated. Transfiguration is also
inseparable from spells and swings of the magic wand.

8
DEFINITION OF GAMP LAW

Gamp Law is a law created

to regulate the awareness
of the wizarding
community that
transfiguration is a branch
of witchcraft that has
limitations in its
application.

8
Gamp’sLaw of Elemental
Transfiguration
Living things.
Items can be revived, bringing life to an inanimate object, but the
spell on the object will dissipate after a certain amount of time.
(for example, you transfigured a cup into a cat, meaning= you
make your cup come alive and animate, meowing or walking, but
the spell on the imitation cat will disappear and the cat will turn
back into a cup because there is no permanent transfiguration
spell)
Self Transfiguration.
You can transfigure yourself and others, but the effect will wear
off in the end. Animagus/Metamorphagus is an exception because
in this case the two things above are different. (just like the cup
and the cat, you can't forever transfigure yourself because one day
the spell you use will disappear)
Combination Transfiguration.
You can permanently fuse two objects to make them into one
object, only if the original object used is the same. (Think about
hybrid plants, meaning in transfiguration you can combine two
things into one, but in practice you have to use the same object,
for example you want to turn your apple tree into a grapefruit, but
you can't change an apple tree. you become a fruitful puppy)
Exchange Spells.
You can swap parts of one thing for another, but the effect isn't
permanent. The closer the object is to the part being exchanged,
the longer the effect lasts. Examples are rabbit and dog ears
9
5 Gamp’s Principal Exception
Food cannot be created from empty air. Food
can be summoned, multiplied, and
transformed. But pay attention to multiplying
food because the nutrients can be lost and the
food becomes empty (loss of taste).
Money cannot be generated or created, nor can
it change denominations to become more
valuable. Trace-casting spells such as Specialis
Revelio can be used to induce evidence of the
spell' s use on an object.
Love cannot be made, it can only be imitated
using potions or the Imperius Curse.
What has died cannot be revived. They can be
made to move again, in their inferied form, but
they can never come back to life.
Shelters and ground cannot be crafted.
Transfiguration can be used to change the color
and shape of soil, but cannot create or increase
quantities where it is not present.

10
note

The laws were made to curb abuse and greed. You

have to be wise enough to follow the law, or you
could be punished very badly. When an object is
transfigured, it becomes a new object. That is, if an
experiment were carried out on a hedgehog, which
had been turned into a teacup, then the experiment
would only lead to the fact that it was a teacup. Any
remnants of the hedgehog will be lost until the
spell's effect wears off. Small objects can be
transfigured into large objects, and vice versa. A
mouse can be turned into an elephant, and vice
versa. The DNA, or whatever the object is made of,
changes completely, the mass of the object changes,
and there is no evidence of where the mass went.
But remember, these changes are not permanent, so
anyone who intends to turn their siblings into
animals, they will return to their original form.

So remember...
Transfiguration is dangerous and can be very dangerous
if used inappropriately.

Kind of Transfiguration
1. TRANSFORMATION SPELL
Inanimate to Inanimate Transfiguration
Inanimate to inanimate transfiguration is
the term used to describe the practice of the
simplest transfiguration. In this subject,
the chanter changes the object from an
inanimate object to another inanimate
object. For example, like a match to a
needle, a fork to a pen or an inanimate
object to an inanimate object. Keep in
mind, that the closer the weight and size of
1 object to the object you want to
transform, the greater the success rate.
Inanimate to Inanimate spells :
Scribblifors, Incarcifors, Diminuendo.
Those three spells are one of the spells from
Inanimate to Inanimate Tranfiguration

13
Kind of Transfiguration
Animate to Inanimate Transfiguration
Animate to Inanimate is the transfiguration of animate
objects into inanimate objects. The practice of
transfiguration which involves changing the form of an
animate being (usually an animal) into an inanimate being
or inanimate object. For example, a mouse becomes a cup, a
rabbit becomes a slipper or a tortoise becomes a teapot.
This transfiguration practice is rather difficult, because
changing animate objects or living things carries risks.
Even though the death rate for these animals or objects is
relatively small, it is not insignificant when they return to
their original shape. For example, rats/owls stop squeaking
or squawking because there are some nerves that are
missing/failed to transform again, so a teacher or guide is
needed in trying this practice. Another difficulty is that
animate objects can feel, move and of course have lives &
most importantly The body structure of animate creatures
is different from that of inanimate objects, so without
proper concentration and calculations, it is difficult to get
optimal results of the transformation. An example of a this
spell is Vera Verto

14
Kind of Transfiguration
Switching Inanimate to Animate
Transfiguration Is a rather complicated
transfiguration practice. Usually this practice is
taught in the fourth and fifth years. Gamp's Law of
Elemental Transfiguration in point 1 reads “Living
Things. Objects can animate, bringing life to an
inanimate object, but the spell on the object dissipates
after a certain amount of time.” Based on this law, it
can be ascertained that the transfiguration carried out
does not create life, but only transforms an object into
an imitation of a living being where the imitation is
not permanent. We cannot release the direction of our
magic wand to the enchanted object, if it shifts
slightly the object will become dead again. What
animates the inanimate object is magic itself, not life.
If the instilled magic is lost/reduced then that thing
will die. Inanimate to Animate Transfiguration is
where we make an inanimate object 'look' alive. We
don't give life or soul to that inanimate object. Just
dividing our magic into that thing to make it move.

15
Kind of Transfiguration
Animate to Animate Transfiguration
Animate to Animate Transfiguration means
turning an animate object into another animate
object. This practice is also very complicated,
even more complicated than inanimate to
animate transfiguration. Because changing
living things not only changes their appearance
or structure, but also the genetic cells and
things that affect the existence of these living
things. Where the change is not only in form or
outward appearance, but the sound of behavior
& things that confirm the existence of the
object. This is different from changing
inanimate objects with other inanimate objects,
because living things have complex body
structures or structures such as nerves, cells and
various things, again while inanimate objects
do not.

2. CONJURING SPELL
A spell taught in the sixth year/N.E.W.T. year at
Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Even
though it was in previous years, this mantra was
really practiced in sixth grade. In general, this spell
creates an object from empty air, where the objects
created are real (not like the Patronus Charm) and
even the objects created are alive/animate. This
spell is not actually creating, but the performance of
this spell is more precisely moving an object from
one place to another through another dimension
using magic. The objects that are created are
objects that already exist and are somewhere and
then moved using a spell so that they are in front of
us. In its application, the Procurement Mantra
requires unsparing concentration/thoughts.
Procurement Spells also require purpose and
determination.

17
Kind of Transfiguration
PROCUREMENT CONJURING SPELL :
Conjuring Inanimate, namely spells that conjure
inanimate objects from empty air. The distance of the
object is also not too far. Conjuring Animate, namely
spells that create living creatures from empty air. This
is very difficult because living things have a complex
structure.
Example :
- Aguamenti = Creating water from sticks.
- Avis = Spawns a flock of small birds.
- Aqua Eructo = Releases water that shoots straight from the
tip of the stick.
- Carpe Retractum = Removing sticky fluid to pull
something.
- Ferula = Appears a wooden stick to bandage a broken leg.
- Fiendfyre = Creates a large and fierce fire.
- Glacius = Creates ice cubes from sticks.
- Incarcerous = Creates a rope to wrap around someone or
something's body.
- Orchideus = Produces a bouquet of flowers from the tip of
the stick.
- Serpensontria = Creating snakes from sticks.

18
Kind of Transfiguration
3. VANISHING SPELL

A spell taught in the fifth year at Hogwarts School of

Witchcraft and Wizardry, where it is taught when
students have entered their OWL year. Its performance
is the opposite of the Procurement Spell, where the
object that is disappeared is teleported to a place that
has been previously targeted and of course the objects
that are disappeared also affect the difficulty in
applying it.

Example of mantra:
- Arania Exumai = Eliminates small amounts of
spiders.
- Deletrius = Removes ghost images produced by the
Priori Incantatem spell.
- Evanesco = Make something disappear or disappear.
- Scourgify = Remove stains or dirt.
- Tergeo = Removes small amounts of dirt.
- Vipera Evanesca = Eliminates snakes.
