COMMERCIAL & INDUSTRIAL REFRIGERATION PREP

Course Description:
This course is designed to teach students the fundamentals of commercial and industrial refrigeration within the framework of
EPA rules and regulations. Students will learn different types of servicing procedures, state of refrigerant throughout a systems
cycle, a review of Ohms Law and electrical circuit drawings. Upon completion, students will receive 70 hours of accreditation
towards the 100 hours of theory required to obtain their Refrigeration State License.
Course Description:
This course covers Massachusetts Electrical Code needed to prepare the student for the State Refrigeration exam. This class is
all code and theory.
This course is designed to teach students the fundamentals of HVACR students are required to take 150 hours of HVAC related
Electrical Code or 150 hours of Journeyman Electrical course to satisfy state requirements.
Course Description:
It is recommended to take this 30 hour class just before going for the HVACR license exam. It is the final class a student needs
in order to sit for their HVACR License Exam. This class is not only required by the state but it is also a good review for the

OIL HEAT TECHNICIANS LICENSE PREP

Course Description:
This course will provide the students with the information necessary to acquire
The Massachusetts Oil Burner Technician License. The curriculum includes
combustion theory, oil burner construction, power venters, oil burner electrical
circuits, hydronic controls, oil tank code and the Oil Burner Fire Protection
Regulations (527 CMR 1.00)
The shop component will allow students to receive hands on experience on live
fire units. The curriculum will include basic tool use and safety, electrical safety,
mechanical troubleshooting, annual tune ups, electrical testing and trouble shooting
of oil burner controls and devices.

Course Description:
This course is designed as a troubleshooting gas course that works from the shut-off to the appliance. Students will be able to demonstrate
their ability to read wiring diagrams, solve heating problems, replace defective parts and make adjustments on heating equipment. Hands
on training and troubleshooting of many of the standard mechanics associated with gas heat will also be reviewed.

training. The class work is based on National Electrical Code.

This course is designed for the student who has completed the 300 hour Journeyman Electrician I. This 300 hour class will
complete the required 600 hours. The class work is based on National Electrical Code.

This intensive course is designed to prepare the Journeyman Electrician who is about to sit for the
Master Electrician License exam; given by the Board of Electrician State Examiners.
This course is based on the National Electrical Code, National Fire Alarm Code, Select OSHA
Construction Safety Regulations, Massachusetts State Laws and Regulations as well as the
Contractors Guide to Business, Law and Project Management.
Course Description:
This course is designed to provide students with a broad overview of municipal and industrial wastewater. After completing this
entry level/intermediate license prep course, students will be prepared to take the municipal or industrial wastewater treatment
license exams given by the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection.

The wastewater renewal correspondence course is based on practical applications that the participant may encounter during the
course of his or her daily shift in a wastewater treatment facility.

Course Description:
This facilities maintenance program has been designed by building managers and mechanics to provide a broad overview of
modern building systems while giving the student an understanding of individual systems pertaining to building equipment.
The course is an overall management approach including the importance of knowing modern building operations. Managers
and mechanics must know how certain types of equipment interact with each other to successfully maintain, troubleshoot and
plan the proper operation of a modern complex for their clients. The course also reviews recent federal and state regulations
that deal with safety issues and the environment (Lock out, M.S.D.S., Right to Know Act, Confined Space Act, Clean Air Act and
Indoor Air Quality [IAQ].

Course Description:
This is the entry-level license preparatory course. After successfully completing this course, students are prepared to take the
written and oral state license exams. Once students pass the exam, the student is officially licensed to “Operate any boiler or
boilers under the engineer or fireman direct charge thereof.”
The Massachusetts Department of Fire Services administers all firemen and stationary engineers licenses.
Course Description:
After holding a Second Class Fireman’s license for six months, students are eligible to take the First Class Firemen’s course
to prepare them for the state license exam. After students pass the exam, the student is then licensed to “Have charge of and
operate any boiler or boilers where the safety valve is set at a pressure not exceeding 25 psi or to operate any boiler under the
engineer in direct charge thereof.”
The Massachusetts Department of Fire Services administers all firemen and stationary engineers licenses.
Course Description:
After holding a First Class Firemen’s License for one year, students are eligible to take the Third Class Engineer’s course to
prepare for the state license exam. After passing the exam, students are then licensed to “Have charge of and operate a boiler
or boilers not exceeding, in the aggregate, 150 horsepower when solid fuel is burned or not exceeding, in the aggregate, 500
horsepower when steam is generated by the use of liquid or gaseous fuel, electric or atomic energy or any other source of heat
and an engine or engines not exceeding 50 horsepower each or to operate a second class plant under the engineer in direct
charge thereof.”
The Massachusetts Department of Fire Services administers all firemen and stationary engineers licenses.
Course Description:
A graduate of this course will understand the principles of combustion and economic firing. The calculations relating to safety
valves and strength of stream boilers will be thoroughly understood, with their practical application. An understanding of the
latest types of steam turbines and their auxiliaries, maintenance and operation must be thoroughly understood by the Second
Class Engineer.
The Massachusetts Department of Fire Services administers all firemen and stationary engineers licenses.
Course Description:
This course will provide such knowledge and prepare students technically for the examination for the first-grade license. A First
Class Engineer can take charge of any steam plant in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. The Massachusetts Department of

This course is designed to offer students maximum Steam Turbine Operation 6 Hours
flexibility. The 30 hour curriculum is completed over a Power Plant Auxiliaries 8 Hours
4 day period usually over two consecutive weekends. Steam Boiler Operation 8 Hours
Course Description:
This course is offered to those students who hold a Special License and only require 6 hours of continuing education.

Course Description:
These courses are designed to begin to prepare plumbing apprentices to fulfill the requirements to take the Massachusetts State
Journeyman Plumber’s Examination. In order to apply the course hours towards a student’s educational requirements as outlined
in 248 C.M.R., Section 11, they must hold a current Massachusetts Apprentice Plumber’s License.
Course Description:
This is the final course to fulfill the educational requirements to sit for the Journeyman Plumbers exam. In addition, licensed
Journeyman Plumbers are required to take this course to sit for the Master Plumbers Exam. Our course covers all related areas
to the plumbing trade to provide the latest code changes and Board policies to meet the needs of an ever changing industry.
The Plumbers:
Required to complete 12 clock hours (6 hours per year) of a state board approved course before a student can renew plumbing license.
The Gas Fitters:
Required to complete 6 clock hours (3 hours per year) of a state board approved course before a student can renew gas fitters license.
After completion of this course students will be able to apply what they have learned to upgrade HVAC control systems, and how to implement
improved energy management techniques to reduce operating costs.
Course Description:
The 2A Hoisting License allows candidates to operate front end loaders, backhoes and excavators. The 1C Hoisting License
allows the candidate to operate a hydraulic boom with no cable, forklifts and lulls. This is a combined 2A/1C Hoisting License
preparation course. The Peterson School will prepare candidates to test for the Office of Public Safety and Inspections 2A or 1C
License Exam.
Course Description:
The 1B License allows candidates to operate telescoping booms with cables and cranes. The Peterson School will prepare
candidates to test for the Office of Public Safety and Inspections 1B License Exam.
Course Description:
This course is designed for students to complete their mandatory continuing education to renew their hoisting license.
All hoisting license holders must complete continuing education hours prior to license renewal.

After the completion of this course, the student will be able to perform all types of maintenance and repairs as well as new
installations as a Locksmith Technician.
Applicants must provide an acceptable background check (CORI) prior to enrollment.
Course Description:
This course is designed for candidates to obtain an Unrestricted Construction Supervisors License.
This course is structured and presented to provide the student with both knowledge of 780 C.M.R., the Massachusetts State
Building Code as well as a fundamental understanding of the code provisions, charts and tables.

For students receiving GI bill funding, students are responsible for paying book fees out of pocket.
To ensure proper payment from the VA to the school, The Peterson School will not charge late fees
for delay of payment for tuition and fees for any VA students covered by Chapters 31 or 33.
Per 38 C.F.R. 21.4255, tuition and fees beyond a $10.00 registration fee must be refunded on a pro-rata basis to individuals who are receiving GI Bill benefits.
The pro-rata amount represents the total of tuition and fees that the completed portion of the course/program bears to the total length of program.
