LESSON
Hi there! Did the RECAP give you a hard time in identifying our previous
lesson? Our lesson for this module has something to do with the last one. In this
module, you will understand the significance of studying Culture, Society, and
Politics. Let’s find out!
EWWS! DO
FILIPINO EAT THIS
STUFF??
https://www.buzzfeed.com/isabellel4eae92a8d/46-thoughts-a-first-time-balut-eater-has-had-13h82
The picture on the top showcase one of the finest foods of the Filipino Culture,
the balut! (duck embryo) Imagine a foreigner eating such food.
Eating balut is just one of the ways that give us Filipino identity, and helps
build our character as a nation. Why? It's just simple. Ask someone from your friends
to describe what foods identified quickly with the Filipino. Well, we are very sure that
balut will undoubtedly be on that list. Studying culture helps us to understand our
past, our place in the world, and our future, thereby allowing us to make better
decisions in the present. It helps us to understand ourselves because we all come
from a common source.
We can all attributed a person’s social behavior by the society where they
belong.
Aside from the enormous benefits that this course brings in understanding
the events around us, here are some of the significance of studying politics:
1. Politics helps you know your rights. Studying politics has allowed us to see
beyond our initial belief that we have no real say in running our country. In
the 1987 Constitution Article III or the Bill of Rights, section 4 says it all. It
has genuinely educated us on a fundamental part of our society. It has helped
us understand that if we engage in political processes, using the pressure
points built into the system, every individual can change the world.
2. Politics clarify what you believe. Studying the things we have reviewed has
allowed us to discover our own political beliefs and see in much greater detail
the benefits and disadvantages of the vast array of political ideologies present
today. Being able to express what you believe accurately and concisely is
extremely useful, and forces you to look at yourself!
After just one term of the subject, we have learned about democracy and our
rights, ideologies, party policies, the Constitution, and government branches. With
the knowledge gained from the classroom, we have been able to watch events unfold
worldwide, have seen our leaders' reactions to these events, and understand these
reactions as demonstrations of what we have learned. And lastly, politics prepares
you for adult life.
Politics opens up student’s curiosity as they age, with the vote giving us the ability
to change our nation and allow the principles we hold dear to thrive. With this in
mind, it could easily mean that Government and Politics is the most applicable
subject on offer at any senior high school. It is a subject that students should be
encouraged to take due to nothing less than the way it prepares you for entering the
adult world.
For that end, culture and government are the leading institutions that keep our
society together. Culture preserves the wisdom in the traditions and practices we
inherit from our ancestors while the government organizes the nation with the use
of laws.
Thus far, I have mentioned society, culture, and government but not politics. That
is because politics is for the community, a subset of government. Politics aim to
idealize models of governing the people and resources of society for security and well-
being.
So how do culture, society and politics are interrelated?
Let us remember that culture influences the daily state of society and its
direction of development. At the same time, politics determines the nature and form
of culture and has the function of transforming it. Therefore, politics has a decisive
role in deciding which direction the culture is going to develop. Culture is the basis
for shaping social normalcy and development.
Politics only fundamentally changes this foundation, while culture reflects its
reality and internality. It has nurtured human social characters, such as nationality,
people's general personality characteristics and customs, and habits. However,
culture and politics are influencing and interacting with each other. While politics
determines culture, culture also subtly influences politics.
Culture affects society because culture shapes the human nature of people in
the community, casts people's world outlook, outlook on life, and values; social
customs and ethical morality gradually formed in the process of cultural influence.
"The impact of culture on society is in all aspects, from the formulation and
implementation of policies and laws; the formation of social ideologies and customs,
the status of interpersonal relationships, while the smaller ones involve the shaping
of individual personalities and the establishment of ideological concepts, behavioral
performance and so on.
Generally, a culture will affect the status, direction, and speed of a society's
activities. When culture succeeds in shaping society's customs, then the customs
and habits of this society will educate and influence people's ideas, behaviors, and
personalities; therefore, there will be such things as Tocqueville. The idea that as
greater social justice is achieved, there may be more intense opposition to even
smaller social injustices than before. This phenomenon was said to have occurred.
