IGNITING MINDS SINCE 1995

November, 2023
On the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, Indian English
Academy School, Salmiya held an inter-school poster
competition with the theme, ‘Gandhiji: Nonviolence
and Swachhata’ promoting Gandhi's ideals among
students. Students from various schools showcased
exquisite artwork where Charisma Tobin of Class V,
Indian Public School won first prize in the Primary
category. The winners were honoured by His
Excellency the Ambassador of India to Kuwait, Dr
Adarsh Swaika. The Principal Mrs Lucy A Cherian,
congratulated Charisma Tobin and the team of
teachers.

On 15th of October, an inter-house fire-less cooking


competition was held in Indian Public School, Salmiya.
Teams were asked to cook and platter a main course, a
salad, and a drink. In the given two hours, revealing their
artistic talent, four tables displayed up to five dishes,
which were evaluated based on presentation, taste,
aroma, and cleanliness by a panel of judges. Later, Ruby
House was declared the winner, closely followed by
Sapphire while Emerald and Topaz shared the second
runner-up position. The Principal, Mrs Lucy A Cherian,
applauded the participants.
“Every child is an artist”, said Pablo Picasso.
IPS organized an Inter-House T-shirt painting
competition on 16th October 2023 for classes 9th and
10th on the theme 'Diwali' to explore the creative
potential in young minds. The students participated
enthusiastically displaying their artistic skills.
Mariam Mohammed Ali (X-A) and Anila Vincent (X-
D) won first prize followed by Athul Danish (IX-C)
and Aaron Chezhian (X-C) in the second position.
The winners of the third position are Fathima Shaima
Mohamed Shafraz(XA),Hameeda Farheen (X-C) and
Meera Azwer (X-B). Consolation prizes were
awarded to Shalomi (IX-A), Sherly Ann Varghese
(X-B) and Mahnoor Khalid (X-A). Congratulations to
all the participants and winners!

“If you have to put someone on a pedestal, put teachers. They are society's heroes”.

A special assembly was organised by students to celebrate International Teachers’ Day at IPS to
honour and venerate the society’s unsung heroes. The programme was meticulously planned and
well executed with an array of amazing dance and music performances to enthrall everyone along
with a nostalgic video presentation highlighting their gratitude to their dear mentors. Some exciting
games were also arranged with lively participation of the teachers. The Principal Mrs Lucy A
Cherian, emphasised the importance of hard work and efforts along with perseverance to succeed in
academics and life. The event concluded with prize distribution and photo sessions.
WEALTH OUT OF WASTE
On Tuesday, October 17, 2023, the inter-
house ‘Wealth out of waste’ competition
held in the school auditorium. The
participants were selected from classes 6,7
and 8. Each group finished the task and gave
an explanation of the process and the
supplies utilized. Judges announced the
winners after a thorough deliberation and
Ruby House got the first place followed by
Topaz House and Sapphire House in second
and third place respectively. The students
got a good opportunity for experiential
learning, providing them with pathways for
a comprehensive approach to their studies.

Solo singing competition


On Wednesday, 24th November, an inter-house competition for solo singing, was held for aspiring musical
students. All the team members were given five minutes individually to sing English or Hindi songs with
Karaoke option. Later, the judges declared the results. Sapphire House bagged the first position. The
following second and third positions were won by Ruby House and Emerald House.
RJs are to entertain the listeners by playing music or conveying messages, interview guests, manage contests
and also provide information on the school related matters and weather in the most attractive and
sophisticated way. IPS RADIO- Talkorama so let’s tune in and get talking was inaugurated by the principal
on 20/10/2023. The first program dealt on cleanliness. The Radio Jockey Club has been a great way for
students to develop their skills in communication, creativity, and problem solving. It has also served as a
platform for students to express themselves and their interests. The Club is a great example of the power of
collaboration and teamwork. It has been a great opportunity for students to learn from each other and work
together to create something unique.
The principal of Indian Public School, Mrs Lucy A Cherian conducted a Health and Wellness Interactive
Session with the students of Class XII in the school auditorium on the occasion of World Mental Health
Day which is held on the 10 October each year. The goal of this day is to help raise mental health awareness

so that people living with mental illness can live better lives with dignity. The senior secondary students
face a lot of pressure in this pivotal stage of their life- be it exams or choosing a career and meeting the
parental expectations. The principal spoke at length about how essential it is to take care of mental and
emotional health as well as physical health. The principal with her expertise made everyone feel like their
worries are valid and that they could be overcome. Every student left the hall feeling motivated, encouraged
and most importantly heard.

SPECIAL CLEANLINESS DRIVE ORGANISED


AT INDIAN PUBLIC SCHOOL

A special campaign on cleanliness was organised at


Indian Public School, Salmiya, Kuwait as per the
CBSE instructions on the Third week of October i.e.
from 15th to 19th October 2023. The students and
teachers took Swachhata Pledge during the assembly
as a part of the programme. The week-long activities
included a poster making competition conducted for
classes III to XII, a Radio Talk Show on Cleanliness
and its Importance and a week-long Campus Cleaning
Session participated by the staff and students of the
school.

Exhilarating moment
On October 28, 2023, Anwita Anil Kumar of
Indian Public School, Salmiya won the Best
Speaker award out of 30 competitors from
the Middle East in the Model United Nations
Competition online organised by Bhavans
School. She represented Hungary in the
United Nations Security Council and
debated on the Russia-Ukraine conflict. Her
eloquence, insightful contributions, and
diplomatic finesse left a lasting impression
on both delegates and jury. This achievement
reflects her dedication and leadership in
global affairs, highlighting her as a role
model for future delegates and bringing pride
to school. The Principal Mrs Lucy A
Cherian, congratulated her.

Indian Public School conducted its Founder’s Day in honour of its founder Chairman late Mr Thomas Chandy
MLA on 29th October 2023 in the school auditorium. The Chief Guest of the occasion Mrs Tessy Chandy, the
daughter of Mr Thomas Chandy and the Vice-Chairperson of the group of schools, fondly recalled her father’s
greatness, his struggle, magnanimity and his contribution to the society. The programme was made endearing
by the mellifluous rendition of the memories song by the school choir, a musical mime presenting the life of
the Chairman and a poignant video presentation celebrating his achievements. The Principal Mrs. Lucy A
Cherian, in her address, spoke about his generosity of spirit and altruistic contribution for the community. The
toppers of CBSE class X and XII in the academic year 2022-23 were honoured by the Chief Guest Mrs Tessy
Chandy during the function with the Thomas Chandy memorial award and cash prize
“Our greatest ability as humans is not to change the world, but to change ourselves.”

The social science department of the Indian Public School conducted a special assembly
coordinated by Ms Soniya Bibin, HOD of social science, titled THE LIFE OF MAHATMA on
October 30, 2023. Students performed lively songs and dances that embodied Gandhiji's life. A
finely crafted impersonation sketch followed his life story. The principal's motivational speech,
which emphasised the inspirational and educational importance of Gandhi's life, left a lasting
impression. The children were instilled with the principles of peace and non-violence, making
it a memorable and historic moment in IPS’ history.
The most color-loving minds are the finest and most contemplative
Indian Public School, Salmiya, organised an Inter House Rangoli making competition. It was a
great opportunity for students to showcase their artistic talents. The Rangoli designs were
intricate and beautiful. The celebration was a great way to learn about Indian culture.

The tiny tots of Indian Public School participated in a plethora of activities in the month of October. Activities are a
highlight in that wing and every Thursday an activity is conducted as a part of CCA which is cherished by the zestful
students.
