Let us study another set of numbers. First, add the numbers in the
ones place. Second, the numbers in the tens place. And third, the numbers
in the hundreds place.
Example:
542 First: 2+6=8
+ 256Second: 4 + 5 = 9
798 Third: 5+2=7
8
First: 3+4=7
Second: 7 + 5 = 12 ( write 2 in the tens place and
regroup 1 in the hundreds place) Third: 1+4+1=6
# Let Us Remember
1. First, add all the numbers in the ones place. Second, add the
numbers in the tens place. And third, add the numbers in the
hundreds place.
Example:
245 First : 5+2=7
+ 312Second: 4 + 1 = 5
557 Third : 2 +3=5
9
2. If the sum of the numbers in the ones place is 10 or more, the first
digit will be written in the ones place and the
second digit will be regrouped to the tens place.
Example: 1 First: 6 + 7 = 13
516 Second : 1 + 1 + 5 = 7
+ 157 Third : 5+1=6
673
3. If the sum of the numbers in the tens place is 10 or more, the first
digit will be written in the tens place and the second digit will be
regrouped to the hundreds place.
Example : 1
374 First : 4+3=7
+ 583 Second: 7 + 8 = 15
957 Third : 1 + 3 + 5 = 9
Example: 1 First : 0 + 0 = 0
900 Second: 0 + 0 = 0
+ 100 Third : 9 + 1 = 10
1 000 Fourth: 1 +__ +__ =1

I. What Happened
Properties of Addition
0 Zero/Identity Property of Addition
0 Commutative Property of Addition
0 Associate Property of Addition
PRE-ACTIVITIES/PRE-TEST:
A. Add the group of pictures in the box. Do this in your notebook.
1. + = _________
12
2. + = _______
3. + = + = _____
4. + = + = ____

easily the three addends at the same time?
Which addends will be added first?
16
Group the addends to be added first by using parenthesis, We arrive at two
possibilities:
(6 + 8) + 5
6 + (8 + 5) Add
the group of addends:
First, (6 + 8) + 5 second, 6 + (8 + 5)
14 + 5 6 + 13
= 19 = 19
What do you notice about the sum? do not change
Are they equal? Yes
Does the grouping of addends change the sum? No
Example: 24 + 9 = 33
9 + 24 = 33
