Flue Gas Side Heat Duty Calculation:-

Heat Duty = Total Flue Gas Mass Flow Rate*Specific heat of Flue
Gas*Temperature Difference

1. Total Flue Gas Mass flow rate calculation:-

Note:- As no direct instrument tag is provided for Flue gas flow rate we need to carry out Mass
Balance as below.

Total flue gas to FGC inlet will be the sum of:-

1. Total MAB air to Regenerator

2. Total Plant air(PA to MAB discharge, To all inst. Purge)
3. Total Expansion PA to Regenerator
4. Coke which is converted into flue gas
5. Total Fuel gas to CO-Oxidizer
6. Total FD fan discharge air

So…..

Total Flue Gas to FGC calculation

Density of Air at NTP 1.2754 Kg/M3
Value Unit Value Unit
NM3/
Total MAB air to Regenrator 167162.47 Hr 213199 Kg/Hr
NM3/ 263.982
MAB air to Hopper -206.98 Hr 3 Kg/Hr
NM3/ 16666.8
Expansion PA to Regenrator 13067.96 Hr 8 Kg/Hr
NM3/ 10468.4
Total Plant air 8208 Hr 8 Kg/Hr
NM3/ 117923.
FD fan Discharge Air to CO-Oxidizer 92459.92 Hr 4 Kg/Hr
Main Fuel Gas air to CO-Oxidizer 1072 Kg/Hr 1072 Kg/Hr
17727.7
Amount of Coke burned in Regenerator 17727.72 Kg/Hr 2 Kg/Hr
377321.
Total Approximate Flue gas to FGC Inlet 5 Kg/Hr

2. Specific Heat Calculation:-

Flue gas composition at FGC inlet-

Combined Flue gas to FGC Composition

Component Vol%
H2O 14.38
N2 71.06
O2 1.08
CO2 13.45
CO 0
Others 0.03
Total 100
(Above Data collected From On stream PFD Data available at DCS Panel)

Flue Gas Inlet Temperature:- 904 C

Flue Gas outlet Temperature:- 332 C

Using Simulation on http://fluegasknowhow.com/

Specific Heat at FGC inlet :- 0.3 Kcal/KgC

Specific Heat at FGC inlet :- 0.273 Kcal/KgC

3.Temperature Difference:-

1. Flue Gas Inlet Temperature:- 904 C

2. Flue Gas outlet Temperature:- 332 C

Difference:- 572 C

So Using above Values

Heat Duty of FGC on Flue gas side:- 61748164.1 Kcal/C Hr
:- 258354319 KJoule/C Hr
Probable Errors:-

1. As there is no individual tag for PA to regenerator so total FCCU PA

consumption value taken for calculation which also includes PA to hopper
area. So this value cause some error in Heat duty

2. Flue gas composition data taken from PFD data which is quite old. Present
Combined Flue gas to FGC composition might be different from that so this
also can cause an error in calculation.

ASSUMPTION:-
It is assumed that there is no loss of flue gas from CO-Oxidizer and FGC due to any
leak.
