What I Need to Know
What I Know
PRETEST. Before you proceed with this module, let’s assess what
you have already know about the lesson.
A. Represent the real-life situation using function.
1. Which of the following represents function?
a. A father to his daughters
b. countries to its capital
c. A store to its merchandise
d. A person to its mobile number
2. A person is earning P600 per day to do a certain job. Express
the total salary S as a function of the number of days d that the
person works.
600
a. S(d) = 600d b. S(d)=600 c. S(d)=d d. S(d)= 𝑑

ℎ
a. A(h) = h b. (A(h) = 24h c. A(h) = 24 d. A(h) =24
5. A canned milk will be made using 40 in² of aluminum. Let r be
the radius of the can and let h be the height. Define a function in
terms of r that can represent the volume of the can.
a. V(r) = 4𝜋𝑟 b. V(r)=40𝜋𝑟 c. V(r)= 𝜋𝑟 d. V(r)=40r
What’s In
REVIEW.
A. Translate the following phrases or sentences mathematically.
1. The square root of the sum of a and b.
2. The average of three test scores if the scores are 74, 86, and m.
3. The area (A) of a rectangle whose length is three times as long
as its width (w).
4. The volume (V) of a rectangular prism when the length is twice
the width (x) and the height is three more than the width (x).
5. The speed S of a traveling truck if it traveled 135 km in k number
of hours.
B. Fill in the blanks. Choose from the list below.
No one-to-one many-to-one
2
4. In the case of table of values, each domain (x-value) must have
exactly ____________range (y-value).
5. A method of determining whether or not a graph represents a
function is called the ________________________________.

circumference is the output, what's the function rule?
As they divide each container's circumference by its
diameter to find that rule, they should notice a constant ratio -- a
rough approximation of pi.
The input is the diameter and the output is the circumference
of the circle.
3. Basic economics and money
math:
* A weekly salary is a function of the
hourly pay rate and the number of
hours worked. The input is the
number of hours worked and the
hourly pay rate and the output is the
weekly salary.
* Compound interest is a function of initial investment,
interest rate, and time. The input is the investment, rate of
interest and time; the output is the compound interest.
* Supply and demand: As price goes up, demand goes down.
The input may be the price and the availability of goods
(supply); the output is the demand.
4. Shadows. The length of a shadow is a
function of its height and the time of day.
Shadows can be used to find the height of
large objects such as trees or buildings;
the same function rule (ratio) by which we
compare the length of an upright ruler to
its shadow will help us find the unknown input (the height of the
large object) when we measure its shadow.
The input is the height of the object and the time of the day;
the output is the length of the shadow.
5. Distance. The distance traveled is a
function of the time. The input is the time
and the output is the distance traveled.

3. Reyes family has P1,500 food budget for each member of their
family in a month. Express the total food budget B as a function
of number of family members n in one month.
1500
a. B(n) = 𝑛
b. B(n) = 1500n
c. B(n) = n+1500
d. B(n) = 1500 - n
