Multimedia: Audio or Video Lesson Idea

Lesson Idea Name: Use the digital tool simpleshow video maker to create a video to describe the
beginning, middle, and ending parts of a story.

Grade Level/Content Area: 2nd grade/ Reading literacy

Content Standard Addressed: ELAGSE2RL5: Describe the overall structure of a story including
describing how the beginning introduces the story, the middle provides major events and challenges,
and the ending concludes the action
ISTE Technology Standard Addressed: What would you like students to know and be
Digital Citizen- 1.2.c: Students use technology able to do by the end of this lesson: Students
will be able to describe how the beginning of a
to seek feedback that informs and improves story introduces the story, how the middle
their practice and to demonstrate their explains the major events or challenges faced,
learning in a variety of ways. and how the ending of stories provides the
conclusion of the action. Students will use their
critical thinking skills to analyze a story from the
beginning, middle, and ending. Students will
choose a book of their choice and explain the
structure of the story by using their voice and
creative visualizations to bring their script to life.
The student will describe the first slide as the
introduction of the story and what they see
happening in the introductory part of the book.
The student will then do that for the middle part
and ending part of the book in their next two
slides. Students will then be provided with
feedback from teacher and they will take it to
make corrections with the learning they have
demonstrated.

What is the student learning goal for this lesson idea? Students learning goal would be for them to
have a good understanding of how this video tool can be extremely helpful in showing their thoughts
through pictures and their voice. Students will be confident in their descriptions so they can post a
perfect video that represents their thoughts.

Selected Instructional Software Tool: Simpleshow video maker

Description of Software: This software allows you to provide your own script in separate pages,
then the tool will provide images that match to words that you used in your text. Then, you
press play, and your images will be brought to life while an audio of your voice describing the
elements in the script play.

Remembering Understanding Applying Analyzing Evaluating X Creating

How do you plan to implement this lesson and integrate the technology? Check all that apply:

X Teacher-led: There is no student voice and choice in the activities. Students are guided by the
teacher's direction and expectations. Learning activities are assigned to the student and mostly
practice based.

Student-Led: Students are given voice and choice in the activities. They may select the topic of
learning and/or determine the tool they will use to meet the learning goal. The teacher facilitates
the learning as the students direct their own learning processes.

X Problem-based and/or Publishable: Students are solving problems and completing projects to
demonstrate their learning. Additionally, the projects can be shared outside of the classroom.
(Note: This objective could be reached by displaying the project on the school’s morning
newscast, posting the project to the classroom blog, presenting it to another class, or publishing it
via an outside source.)
Lesson idea implementation:
The activity I would plan for my students would start off with me telling them what I will expect from
them and explain how we will be using a cool digital tool to record their voices when explaining
beginning, middle, and ending parts of a book of their choice. I will explain how we can use our
explanations and find ways to describe beginning, middle, and ending parts of a book. The students
will utilize the technology by creating their own script with help provided, then using different visual
pictures provided that they will choose from to create their story of events. Teacher will help in
creating the script for students by assisting the students with typing out their thoughts and ideas. The
teacher will provide the students with feedback by one on one giving comments throughout the video
the students will present to the teacher to go over and grade. I will conclude the lesson with a quick
summary activity asking what the students learned and now feel confident in after using the digital
tool to explain their thinking.
Managing student learning: This will help students learn in an interactive, engaging way, rather
than learning just from what the teacher is saying or writing down. This tool allows students to
become active learners by having them create their own video which helps exemplify their
understanding of the concept. The student will be expected to come up with their script in a timely
manner to support time on task, and then they will be able to move to the next part of creating their
video through pictures and using their voice.

Universal Design for Learning (UDL) Reflection: Be sure to mention one specific UDL principle
you are focused on in this lesson – Multiple Means of Engagement, Multiple Means of
Representation, or Multiple Means of Action & Expression.
This activity supports my students learning experience by providing a unique way to learn a lesson
which allows them to solve the meaning of their chosen book. The tool enhances the student’s
thinking skills by having them think on their own of how they could create a good representation of
the beginning, middle, and ending of their book. The Universal Design for Learning principle, which
is multiple means of representation, supports the tool used because it allows students to grasp
information using a video option to help them create their own representation of their knowledge on
the content.
Reflection: Having the students take what they learn from how they can take apart stories to explain
the begging, middle, and ending parts of a book, then using that to make a representation of the skills

they used helps student become more educated on how they can explain their ideas. I look forward to
implementing the representation of the tool, and explaining to the students how helpful the tool can be
to show their learning through a video.
