6) TECHNICAL DESCRIPTION-GENERAL WORKING PRINCIPLES

The machine is called: SPRAY/DRYING BOOTH

The spray booth is essentially made up of:

6A- SPRAY BOOTH STRUCTURE;

6B- AIR-INLET AND HEATING UNIT;
6C- EXHAUST UNIT;
6D- CONTROL BOARD.

6A- SPRAY BOOTH STRUCTURE

The painting room is made of an insulated, self-supporting, and modular metal structure, with fireproof
material class 0. It consists of the following main components:

Main front door made of a self-supporting metal structure with a painted metal frame, side closing panels,
top valance, personnel door, and an access door composed of 3 wings to introduce the material to be
painted. Panels and doors are made of pre-painted white double-skin metal sheets with insulation. All the
doors are also equipped with glass allowing the operator to control the drying process phase.
Wings are to be opened manually containing each one a large safety glass window with a side locking
framework. One door can be used as a personnel door. Each door is equipped with robust galvanized and
painted adjustable hinges and a whole set of gaskets is placed around the sides of the doorframe.

Insulated side and rear panels made of galvanized double-skin metal sheet, pre-painted white on the
interior and the exterior. They are assembled with vertical stiffening profiles and reinforced with painted
structural metal intermediate portals. Panels’ thickness: 52 mm
Panels connection is obtained with a “C” profile anchored to the rail fixed into the floor and to the roof
elements in the upper part.
The panels are necessary to isolate the spray-painting environment from the outside, both from the
thermal and acoustic point of view and above all so as not to disperse the paint and solvent residue into the
environment.

Roof covering made of self-supporting metal beams placed horizontally and used to house the filtering
plenum components. Vertical and horizontal panels will be assembled above these trusses; on the whole,
they make up the large room of the ceiling intending to uniform the airflow distribution inside the booth,
which comes from the air that makes up the unit. Air filtering plenum forms the inside ceiling of the booth
and it is made of a structure of the roofing trusses and assembling special frames, equipped with quick
locking/unlocking systems; these frames contain filters with progressive density and class F5. The filtering
section has ceiling filters in polyester thermo-regulated fiber - easily replaceable -, EU5 filtration class.

8) GENERAL FUNCTIONING PRINCIPLES - RISKS ARISING FROM

THE USE OF PAINT
Spraying generally:
The operation to coat any object with paint has above all the purpose to reach certain aesthetic qualities,
next to guaranteeing the protection of the same object from the aggressive actions of the environment.
For obtaining good aesthetic results and technically valid ones as far as the length of time and protection is
concerned, the spraying operation requires the use of good products, good technology in the preparation
and application, but above all requires a closet room without dust, which consents a drying phase in a short
time, suitably planned and measured in a way to guarantee the maximum safety in the carrying out of the
operation and the best sanitary conditions and comfort for the operator assigned to the same operation.
The application of paints through spraying consists mainly of using a compressed air jet at 4,5 - 5 atm to
project the surface to be painted, through the appropriate gun or airbrush, in the form of tiny little drops,
the paint diluted accordingly.

Risks and dangers generally connected with spraying:

The spraying operation increases the fire risks characteristic of solvent and paints; it increases the ranger of
explosion as a result of the considerable development of damps containing solvents and paints whose
particles are thinly diluted in the air, but above all, it exposes the operator assigned to the spraying
operations at greater risk for inhalation, ingestion, contact with the skin and the eyes in consequence of
specific toxic-noxious characteristics of the substances used in the fabrication of paints and solvents.

It is good to remember that:

o The solvents are organic compounds, easily inflammable, wherefore the following effects on the
human organism are generally recognized (known): - irritation of the skin and mucous
membranes; - toxic for the central nervous system; - toxic for the peripheral nervous system; -
toxic for the liver and kidneys.

o Pigments - although they are not considered much as a risk factor – can present other serious
risks (lung and bladder cancer) as a consequence of their absorption which can occur both
through the respiratory system and through the skin (this absorption is favored by the cleansing
action of the solvents).

o The resins are the “base” of paints and the connected risk is above all due to the contact with
skin and mucous membranes. They can cause allergies.

Spraying in a fanned booth

FAM s.r.l. has manufactured the spray booth/oven with state-of-the-art technology to guarantee the best
results for spraying operations, by ensuring:
- effective “dust out” conditions,
- possibility to carry out application operations,
- quick-drying painted objects,
- easy management of the booth,
- maximum safety during the spraying and drying operations,
- maximum health, safety, and comfort conditions for the operator assigned to the
spraying operations. The fanning provides an effective, constant, and uniform washing
of the room where the spraying is affected with vertical airflow up and down, in a
way to prevent toxic or noxious substances can be verified in the working room.

14
FAM SRL – Via G. Ferraris, 63 - 52100 Arezzo- (AR) - Tel. 0575/590733
__________________________________________________________________________________________

The functioning (running) principle of the spray booth/oven of FAM s.r.l. is to create an ideal room,
specially designed for specific spraying operations.

The FAM spray booth, closed type, with large windows and entrance doors for the operators and for
inserting the objects to be painted, indeed makes up an interned room that is effectively fanned up and
down with an appropriate air inlet and heating unit. The air is introduced in a “stillness room” which lies
above the spray booth with the purpose to uniform the air distribution through the plenum or where the
filtering panels are arranged.
The air is then expelled to the outside from the lower part, filtering through the panels arranged under the
grid panels present at the floor level of the booth.
The same air is dispersed with an appropriate extraction fan (supplied on request) and then exposed in the
atmosphere after being rightly filtered and cleared from possible polluting agents that are detained in the
pocket filters.

Instead of filtering units type “pocket”, carbon filtering units – specifically foreseen for bringing down the
solvents – can be installed.

The spray booth with inlet and heating unit + exhaust unit is capable of:

• preventing the spread of fumes and damps in the remaining working room not immediately
interested in the spraying operation;
• effect the spraying operations to guarantee the best safety and health conditions for the operator
avoiding that he is subject to inhaling toxic and noxious fumes above the max. limit foreseen by
safety regulations, considering that damps containing irritating products touch the skin and eyes;
• provide the filtering and maintenance of optimal application and drying conditions of the paint in
the absence of dust to guarantee the best result of the paint application;
• consent a quick drying of the applied product;
• create an effective depuration of the expelled air, before exposure to the atmosphere.

9) CARRIAGE INSTRUCTIONS
The spray booth is supplied in pieces.
The several components of the booth are subdivided and packed in homogeneous parcels per dimension
and weight at the factory.
The removal of several parcels from the box of the conveyance or the container to the deposit or assembly
site has to occur, if possible, with the use of forklifts or lift trucks for the lifting and transport of the loads.

In case a forklift is used, take into consideration that:

- The driving of the forklift must be entrusted to a qualified operator, an expert in the specific job.
- The translation movements of the forklift should be affected by lowering as much as possible the
lift forks.
-The routes to use must be suitable for forklifts, without holes or ramblings, and anyway in a
way to guarantee the stability of the load.
- The load must be suitably arranged on the lift forks in a way to avoid possible accidental falls.

Not this way

In some cases, the components are placed loose inside the loading bay (container, truck, etc.) In this
case, it is necessary to unload and move individually the various pieces in order and in such a way as
to guarantee the maximum safety of staff working.

Storing

In the case of booth storage before unpacking, it is necessary to put it in a place protected from bad
weather. It is not possible to overlap packaging.

Unpacking

After having transported the booth packaging to the place designed for the installation, remove the
wrapping and check that:

a. The content of the package corresponds to what was agreed upon in the order.
b. There are no visibly damaged parts

In both cases, if there are problems, do not proceed with the booth assembly and inform the builder
immediately of the damages and/or of the missing parts detected during the wrapping opening.

10) ASSEMBLY AND DISASSEMBLY INSTRUCTIONS

The assembly of the spray booth/oven has to occur at the point settled for the installation and according to
the plan worked out at the act of the order.
According to this installation plan, the FAM booth has been realized in its several parts at the production
plants. At the act of the construction, the positioning of the booth, the air inlet and outlet units, the air
intake and outlet points, the exhaust tube of the gas burnt from the heat exchanger, the accessibility to the
booth, and the several parts subjected to control and maintenance have been taken into consideration.
The assembly of the complete spray booth must, therefore, occur according to the foreseen installation
plan.
The assembly of the metal structure of the spray booth and the other components of the booth must be
executed by qualified operators, an expert in that kind of work.
For the purpose of the safety of the operators assigned to the assembly, keep in mind that all the safety
regulations in force should be respected.

In particular, it is recommended to:

• check that the working area is without holes, projections, or other conditions that can cause the fall of
the operator during the job and movement;
• check that the electric tools used are all provided with extra safety insulation (double square on the
plate);
• use portable ladders provided with anti-slippery devices at the lower and upper ends;
• use mobile scaffolds corresponding to the safety regulations. They have to be provided with complete
and resistant planks, provided with safety rails 1 mt. high, on the whole perimeter, and with a ladder;
• use personal protection garments (gloves, glasses, safety shoes, etc.);
• do not affect any intervention on the hot electric circuits;
• every operation on the electric circuits should be conducted by qualified electricians

11) INSTRUCTIONS FOR PUTTING INTO OPERATION

IMPORTANT: The installation must be carried out by qualified operators.

11.A) CONNECTION TO THE ELECTRIC NETWORK:

The installer will take care of the realization of that part of the booth which is necessary for connecting the
spray booth, air inlet-heating unit, and extractor-air filtering unit (if supplied) observing the relevant CE
regulations and every other good technical regulation involved.
However, remind that before connecting the spray booth to the main it's needed to:
a) Verify that the main voltage values and the frequency are those requested for the regular functioning of
the booth.
See dates on the booth plate
b) Assure that the main has section wires that are adequate for the charge.
c) The connection to the electric network must be made through the omnipolar switch provided
with protection against overcharges and short circuits. (magneto-thermal omnipolar switch)
d) Verify that the booth is provided with a protection conductor that is connected to the general
grounding plant of the workshop;

17
FAM SRL – Via G. Ferraris, 63 - 52100 Arezzo- (AR) - Tel. 0575/590733
__________________________________________________________________________________________

e) Verify the existence of a grounding plant and verify the continuity of the electric connection
between the ground network (ground plates) and the protection lead to which the spray-booth
will be connected.
f) Make sure that the supplying plant is provided with a proper auxiliary intervention device for
the ground current (differentiated relay) or that eventual max. current protection devices are
coordinated with the ground resistance value of the grounding plant in a way to assure the
timely interruption of the broken circuit if the contact voltage reaches dangerous values, as
foreseen by the CE regulations 64-8.

WARNING:
In case a grounding plant which is part of the supplying network lacks, before the electric connection of the
spray-booth to the supplying plant, steps must be taken to realize a proper grounding plant with a
resistance lower than 20 Ohm, using the ground plates fixed in the ground and connected with leads of at
least 16 mm2 and installing, upstream the connection point of the booth, a properly differentiated relay
with high sensibility.
Remind that this plant must, however, be verified before the first setup.
In case the burner of the air inlet-heating unit is supplied with gas, note that the wiring of the room where
this booth will be installed must conform with the CE regulations 64-2/A

13) ORDINARY/EXTRAORDINARY MAINTENANCE, CONTROL,

REPAIR

The ordinary maintenance operations must be carried out by qualified and authorized personnel however,
before beginning the maintenance, the following operations have to be done.

- Remove the motor vehicle from the painting environment.

- Turn the main switch off.
- Disconnect the control panel interrupting the power circuit of the net by means of the switch set-
upstream.
- Close the main switch with the padlock and keep the key during the phases of maintenance. (if present)

FAM SRL – Via G. Ferraris, 63 - 52100 Arezzo- (AR) - Tel. 0575/590733
__________________________________________________________________________________________

Ordinary maintenance consists essentially of the periodic substitution of the various filters used, with the
frequency indicated in the following chart

* replacement operation
** check operation

Parts to be checked Frequency checkups and substitution

Pocket filters (air supply and exhaust units) ** Blows with compressed air every 80 working hours
* substitute every 300 working hours
Ceiling filters (plenum) * substitute every 1000 working hours
Paint stop filters (under-grid) * substitute every 120 working hours
Gas burner ** General check functioning yearly
Front door and personnel door gaskets ** General check functioning yearly

* replacement operation
** check operation

ATTENTION: The periods for controls are average values calculated in conditions of
normal use. If the booth is used with greater continuity or for particularly arduous
working conditions, it is necessary to carry out controls with more frequency.

ATTENTION: The missed or delayed maintenance of the filters involves an increase or

diminution of the pressure in the painting environment, as well as a decrease in the
effectiveness of the filters. Furthermore, the paint and solvents concentration inside the
booth can become so elevated as to exceed the inflammability limit, making the risk of
fire much higher. For this reason, it is necessary to carry out controls on the obstruction
of the filter every time the oven is started and note in the specific pages at the end of
this manual, all the maintenance is done and the respective references.
ATTENTION: all the used filters (pocket filters, ceiling filters, basement filters, synthetic filters, and
activated carbon filters) cannot be disposed of as normal urban waste, neither can be burnt but they must
be given to corporates authorized to collect special waste.

operators won't risk falling into them.

Weekly cleaning filters.

Blow with air-jet the surfaces of the filtering panels shaking them energetically to free them from solidified
paint residues.
Attention: Paint residues are pollutants and therefore considered “special waste”. The cleaning operation of
the "paint-stop" filtering panels with a compressed air jet must be carried out in a suitable environment
with a plain floor and in a way to permit to the collection and stock rightly the dried paint flakes that detach
from the filter panels.
These residues should be handed over to a specialized company for disposal.

Periodical substitution of the paint-stop filters under the grids.

Every 60 working hours provide the substitution of the paint-stop filtering panels with new ones that have
the same characteristics as those previously installed.
Arrange accurately the new filtering panels under the grids.
It's advisable to keep always in stock 1 set of paint-stop filters and in case of substitution request them
immediately at FAM s.r.l. specifying the dates on the plate of the booth.
Attention: the substituted filters are to be considered “special waste”. So they must be stocked correctly and
handed over to a specialized firm for disposal.
