FAQs for Times of Oman Quiz 2022

REGISTRATIONS

1. How can we register for this Quiz?


Answer: Registrations will be done online. The link that directs you to online registration forms will be
shared with your school. You may use that link to register yourself & your team member

2. How many members per team are allowed?


Answer: Each team will have to consist of 2 members. Details of both the members must be registered
together

3. Can just one member register and the other member on a later date?
Answer: No. Both the members must register at the same time. Otherwise online registration forms cannot be
submitted

4. Due to any reason, if online registration forms do not work, what is the other option for registration?
Answer: Online forms are tried & tested. You will not have any difficulty. However, in the event that
you have any difficulty, you may approach your school. On special case basis, we will provide
soft copies of the registration forms upon specific request

5. How many teams can participate from one school?


Answer: There is no limit to number of teams participating from any school for Prelims in English or Arabic Quiz

6. What is the registration fee per student / team?


Answer: RO 2 is the fee for participation in this quiz per student (RO 4 per team) for each language quiz. If a
student wants to participate in English & Arabic, it will be RO 4 for such students.

7. When should we register?


Answer: You may register as soon as you get the Registration Link. Although the actual quiz will be in
Oct / Nov 2022, we will have lot of online quizzes for registered participants. Those who register sooner
will have the opportunity to participate in all these online quizzes and win attractive gifts /prizes.
QUALIFICATION FOR JUNIOR & SENIOR TEAMS

8. What grades are considered for Junior & Senior categories?


Answer: Junior Category for English Quiz: Classes 5 to 8 as of October 2022.
Senior Category for English Quiz: Classes 9 to 12 as of October 2022.

Junior Category for Arabic Quiz: Classes 5 to 9 as of October 2022.


Senior Category for Arabic Quiz: Classes 10 to 12 as of October 2022.

ABOUT THE QUIZ FORMAT

9. What is the format of this Quiz Competition?


Answer: The Quiz will have 4 rounds. Prelims, Mega Prelims, Semi-Final & Grand Final
Prelims (or Elimination Round) will be a written test. It will be held in your respective school (if number
of teams registering is 100 or more, Junior & Senior together)
Else, you will be called to a common place for Prelims

Mega-Prelims (or Elimination Round 2) will be a written test. This will be held in Muscat one or 2 days
before the Semi Final & Grand Final.

Semi-Final & Grand Final will be held at City Amphitheater Qurm in the 1st weekend of Nov 2022

Semi-finals & Grand Final rounds will also have audio / video questions

10. From what subjects will the questions be asked?


Answer: Quiz will be on Global General knowledge; including (but not limited to) national & international
current affairs, geography, science, sports, entertainment industry, history etc.,

11. Will mock papers be provided for practice?


Answer: For schools registering for Arabic Quiz, mock papers can be arranged upon specific requests

IMPORTANT DATES & GENERAL QUESTIONS


(please note dates mentioned are tentative. Final dates will be communicated)

12. What are the dates of the Prelims round?


Answer: Prelims will be conducted in respective schools between 10th to 14th Oct 2022, by the school. However,
question paper will be set and provided by Organizers. Exact date will be notified (also refer Q# 6)

13. How many teams will qualify from Prelims to Mega Prelims from each school?
Answer: Upto 5 teams in Junior & 5 teams in Senior category for English & upto 10 teams in Junior &
10 teams in Senior for Arabic Quiz Mega Prelims. However, this number depends on
registrations from that school
14. What are the dates for the Mega Prelims?
Answer: Wednesday, the 2nd November 2022 (tentative date). English and Arabic Mega Prelims will take place
on the same day. Venue and timing will be notified to those who qualify.

15. How many teams will qualify from Mega Prelims to Finals
Answer: 8 school teams in each category will qualify in both, English & Arabic Quiz

16. What are the dates of the finals?


Answer: Friday, 4th November 2022 – English - Semi Finals & Grand Finals.
Saturday, 5th November 2022 – Arabic - Semi Finals & Grand Finals

17. What is the timing!


Answer: 5pm Gates open; 6.30pm Quiz starts

18. What awards will the winners be receiving?


Answer: All participants, starting from Prelims round, will receive Participation Certificates. The coveted Issa
Al Zadjali Rolling Trophy will be given to the winning school in each category. Team members of
Winner, 1st Runner up & 2nd Runner up positions will be receive trophies / medals

We are also trying to organize other (sponsored) high value electronic items to be given away as gift.

19. Who will be the quizmasters?


Answer: English Quizmaster: ‘Pickbrain’ Giri Bala Subramaniam
Arabic Quizmaster: Mr. Faiz Al Mamari

20. What is the best way to prepare for this competition?


Answer: Students who have the habit of regular reading / watching news will find it easier. For those
who do not have that habit, we strongly recommend that they start reading Times of Oman /
Al Shabiba newspapers daily and start watching news on radio / TV. This will help you answer
most of the questions.

Referring books on general knowledge is also recommended
