Updating the iCOM
using the Service
Tool (iST)

This document service as a step by step guide to


the process of properly updating software on
the iCOM large control board, as well as the
iCOM large display.

iCOM Large Board Update *Refer to

Instructions

1) Connect your iCOM PC’s Ethernet


port to port P64 on the iCOM
control board.

A. Note that the unit should be


powered but not actually blowing
air.

2) Start iCOM Service Tool (iST) by


clicking on the wrench icon on the
Desktop. Log in using the following
information:
Username user 1
Password AAAAAA

3) Check to see that the IP address


192.168.254.254 is seen in the
lower right corner of the iST. If it is
not seen correctly then follow the
steps A & B.

A. Check the P64 connections at the


board and the rear of the laptop.
Are the amber and green LEDS on
at the laptop’s Ethernet port as well
as the iCOM board’s P64 port?
B. Next click the options button on the
IST’s toolbar and then select the
“OK” button from the bottom right
corner of the option window.

4) Now select the magnifying glass from


the iST’s toolbar and note the Auto-
Detect screen will appear; click the ok
button. The board will appear in the
left pane of the iST after auto
detection is complete, (be sure to
click on the board once). **Refer to
figure 1 on page 3 for XML info Don’t
forget the GREEN ARROW.**
5) Click on the wrench icon in the iST’s
toolbar to open the Update Wizard.
6) Select the PAL application version and
the corresponding bootloader by
clicking on the browse buttons at the
end of each field and click next. Refer
to figure 2 in the back of this manual
for more information on this.
7) Review your software selections
before clicking finish.
8) If all is correct then click finish and
the software update will begin.
9) Watch the progress of the update by
clicking on the icon above the device
you are working within the left pane
and watching device state. Look for
“No Operation” and “On
(Application)”.

*Note that the board icon in the left pane of the


iST will be yellow during the update and return
to green once the process in complete.

10) It is now time to load the XML files


downloaded using figure 1. This is done
by using the yellow arrow in the iST’s
toolbar. Select the following files:

Unit Summary Unit Code

Unit Diary Configuration Safe

Spare Part List Network Safe

11) Allow time for each upload to
complete. This can be determined by Use the green arrow to download the
watching the color of the board’s icon xml files shown below then return to
in the left pane of the iST. step 5.

Yellow = Busy
Green = Complete

*Note that the yellow upload button is


unavailable during active file exchanges.

Instructions

1) Plug P64 of the large display into the


Ethernet port on your iCOM PC.

A. Note that the unit should be


powered but not in the on state.

2) Start iCOM Service Tool (iST) by


clicking on the wrench icon on the
Desktop. Log in using the following
information:
Username user 1
Password AAAAAA

3) Check to see that the IP address


192.168.254.254 is seen in the lower
right corner of the iST. If it is not seen
correctly then follow the steps A & B.

A. Check the P64 connections at the

B. Next click the options button on the
IST’s toolbar and then select the

4) Make sure you have the wrench icon


highlighted in the left pane and select
the magnifying glass from the iST’s
toolbar. Note the Auto-Detect screen
will appear; click the ok button. The
board or display will appear in the left
pane of the iST after auto detection is
complete.

5) Click on the wrench icon in the iST’s


toolbar to open the Update Wizard.
6) Select the PAB application version
and the corresponding bootloader by
clicking on the browse buttons at the
end of each field and click next. Refer
to figure 1 in the back of this manual
for more information on software
versions.
7) Review your software selections
before clicking finish.
8) If all is correct then click finish and
the software update will begin.
9) Observe the process by clicking on
the output tab in the lower right pane
of the iST. Watch for “Upgrade
Finished” followed by “Rebooting”.

update and return to blue once the

1) Use the settings read and record form in the back of this manual to note settings from
the original board before de-installation if possible (Optional). After the board is
installed in the unit the following steps need to be followed. Go to the Advanced menu
and then into factory settings and log in at level 3 (2210).

2) Go to line A008 and select Load + Execute if you uploaded a unitcode.xml file. This
will activate the unit code that you previously uploaded. If you wish to enter unit code
manually then be sure to use the Save + Execute option to commit the new unit code.
Verify that the unit code is correct for the unit’s installed options by comparing it to the
unit code list on the front of the unit. Please note that you can also manually enter the
unit code using the keypad.

3) **If you did a read and record, then go to the Service Menu and into Setpoints and
enter the previously recorded set point information from the form. Do the same for Set
Alarm information. If not then got to step 4 please.

4) Then use the right arrow key to go to the network settings for the board. This can be
verified by looking for a UNIT 01 at the upper right of the screen. Go to line S831 which
is Configuration Safe and do a Load, by scrolling up past Save, then come back and do
a Save. This is only necessary if you uploaded a configsafe.xml from the original board,
if not skip the Configuration Safe work.

5) Last go to line S843 page 2 of 2 Bootloader Variable and do a Save + Reboot.

Optional Read and record the following settings for input into the new iCOM control.

1) Go up to page 1 of 2 and verify you are in the right place by finding a PAB on line
S811.

2) Last, go to line S821 on page 2 of 2 and do a Save + Reboot.

3) Once the board and display are rebooted and networked back together (T/H readings
and correct date and time displayed), remove power from the board for about 10
seconds. Reapply power, the unit is ready to run. The display will reboot and the
software update is now complete.

iCOM XML Download Guide *Refer to

This guide will explain how to effectively accomplish the following tasks:

A. Download XML files using a DS unit serial number from the iCOM service portal at the
Liebert public web page.
B. Place the XML files in the correct directory on your iCOM Service Tool PC for upload to the
iCOM large board.

1) In order to access the iCOM Service Portal go to http://applications.liebert.com/icom/Login.aspx


using your web browser on an internet connected PC.
2) Once there login using the password icom*db and click the login button.

3) Now that you are inside the service portal you will see a field call serial number, here you should
enter the serial number of the DS unit you want to retrieve XML files for and click search.

4) The order number, model number and serial number will be displayed and in the lower portion
of the page links to the following files will be present.

Unit Summary (unitsummary.xml)

iCOM Unit Config (unitcode.xml)

XML Spare Parts List (sparepartlist.xml)

5) It is now time to save the files using the proper names to your desktop. Right click on each file
and select Save Target as…

6) Now select your desktop as the place to save the file and rename each file to the proper name:

This must be done for each file making absolutely sure that they are named as described in the table
above.

7) Now that you have the 3 files mentioned in step 6 saved to your desktop with the correct names
it is time to transfer the files to the directory below, which can be gotten to easiest by clicking
the user 1 icon on the desktop of your PC. However below is the actual path starting from the
root directory.

This can be accomplished by using the cut feature on the usb thumb drive and then browsing to
this path with My Computer and executing the paste feature. The files are now ready to be
uploaded using the iST.

iCOM Software to PC Install Guide

This guide will explain how to effectively accomplish the following tasks:

A. Download the latest software for iCOM from the iCOM service portal at the Liebert public
web page.
B. Install the software on the iCOM Service Tool PC in preparation for the update process.

1) In order to download the latest software from the iCOM Service Portal go to
http://applications.liebert.com/icom/Login.aspx using your web browser on an internet
connected PC.
2) Once there login using the password icom*db and click the login button.

3) Now that you are inside the service portal you will see the software available along with some
documents.

4) Select the version of software you would like to install on your iCOM PC and click on it, now save
it to your desktop.

5) Open the downloaded file by double clicking it, this will open the compressed archive and allow
you to extract the files to the proper folders.

Next click File and then extract all. The wizard will come up and guide you through the process of
extracting the folder containing the files. Be sure to extract the files to
C:\Users\Sample\Documents\iCOM Service Tool\Images.

6) Now that this is done it is time to cut and paste the files into the proper folders. Below are the
proper paths for the files to be placed and this is absolutely necessary for the iST to work at all.

7) The wizard will open the folder you extracted the files to automatically as seen below. Highlight
the application files as mentioned in step 6 and then paste them into the Applications folder.
