Teenage Pregnancy

Teenage pregnancy is the greatest issue ladies and young ladies confront within the
Philippines. Based on information from the World Bank, as seen within the Joined together
Countries Finance for Populace Activities' (UNFPA) January 2020 Approach Brief on
Dispensing with Young Pregnancy within the Philippines, there are “47 yearly births per
1000 Filipinas (matured 15 - 19)” with the worldwide normal being 44, and “everyday 500
youthful young ladies are either getting pregnant or giving birth.

Everyone says that you should enjoy your teenage life, but how can we enjoy if there's a big
percentage of womens getting pregnant at an early age? The pandemic has made the
situation worse. There are even more young mother these days.

The University of the Philippines Population Institute is predicting a baby boom in 2021 in
an estimated 751,000 additional unplanned pregnancies because of the conditions created
by the pandemic. The reason why there's a high rate of teenage pregnancy is because of
lack of sexual knowledge. Some girls do not know that having sex can result in pregnancy
or fully consider the responsibility of having children and being a mother.

The rate of teenage pregnancy is rising. According to the most recent data, collected every
10 years, in 2002, 6.3 percent of teenagers were pregnant; by 2013 it had gone up to 13.6
percent. The Philippines has recorded a total of 180,916 live births among adolescents
aged 10 to 19 in 2019, according to the data from the Civil Registration and Vital Statistics
System of the Philippine Statistics Authority.

on the other hand, most women usually cite for abortion to end their pregnancies. women,
who had their experience on ending their pregnancies would most likely remain silent in
fear of being judged and criticized. when all what they really want is another chance to
learn life lessons even more to prepare themselves for the better good in the future. Being
a mother at an early age makes you embarrassed for the reason that you can't play with
kids outside anymore because you have a responsibility with your child. Some youth also
stops studying because of having a responsibility to give a good life to their child.

President Rodrigo Duterte declared that teenage pregnancy is a national priority. The
Philippines has one of the highest teenage pregnancy rates among the ASEANS. Early
childbearing may result in poor health outcomes and may be a threat to the country’s
economic growth. Pregnant adolescents are less likely to complete higher education and
have lesser ability to earn more income over the course of a lifetime, causing economic
losses to the country. Pregnancy during teenage years is also associated with a
higher risk of health problems such as preeclampsia, anemia, contracting STDs (sexually
transmitted diseases), premature delivery, postpartum hemorrhage, and poor mental
health outcomes. Teenage mothers are more likely to experience violence and depression
that can increase the risk of mental disorders. Mothers with poor maternal health are more
likely to give birth to a low birth-weight baby, with inadequate complementary feeding and
breastfeeding, frequent infections, and inadequate food, health and care, the low birth-
weight baby will grow as a stunted child, a stunted teenager, and finally to a malnourished
pregnant woman who, in turn, has another low-birth-weight baby, and the cycle persists
through generations.

We agree to have a sex education at school as long as the student will have an open minded to
learn, so that we can implement having a family at an early age. It makes us understand healthy
and unhealthy relationships, avoids us to have negative health consequences and Show dignity
and respect for all people, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity. Sex education
helps young people to change specific behaviors related to preventing pregnancy and sexually
transmitted diseases. It makes us aware how we get diseases and how we get pregnant. It
addressed multiple sexual psychosocial risk and protective factors affecting sexual risk
behaviors such as knowledge, perceived risks, values, attitudes, perceived norms and self-
efficacy. As we grow up, young people faces different situations that we have to make a good
decision.
