VAPOR CYCLE COOLING SYSTEM - INSPECTION/CHECK

1. General
A. This section gives the procedures required to complete inspections on the vapor-cycle cooling system. Additional information
on required inspection intervals and maintenance practices can be found in the Enviro Systems Inc. Operating, Servicing, and
Component Maintenance Manual 21-00-00 (R-12 systems), and 21-00-27 (R134a systems).
B. Safety Precautions.
WARNING: Obey all precautions when handling refrigerant or servicing and performing maintenance on air
conditioning systems.
2. Tools and Equipment
A. For a list of required tools and equipment, refer to Air Conditioning - General.
TASK 21-51-03-210
3. Vapor Cycle Cooling System Hour Meter Check
A. Examine the vapor cycle cooling hour meter (if installed).
NOTE: The intent of this inspection is to determine which vapor cycle system maintenance is due based on
compressor hours.
(1) If there is not a vapor cycle cooling system hour meter installed on the airplane, use one of the following methods to
determine the compressor maintenance requirements:
(a) Examine the airplane log book to see if the amount of time the compressor was in operation can be determined.
(b) If you cannot positively determine the number of compressor hours on the motor, it must be assumed that the motor
has more than 500 hours time in service.
(c) An operator is permitted to submit a request to their local Flight Standards District Office in accordance with 14 CFR
39.19 to propose an acceptable method of determining compressor operation time.
(2) Get access to the vapor cycle cooling system compressor through the aft baggage compartment panels. Refer to Chapter
6, Access Plates and Panels Identification - Description and Operation.
(3) If installed, examine the hour meter for installation and damage.
(4) Apply electrical power to the airplane.
(5) Record the hours from the hour meter.
(6) Remove electrical power from the airplane.
(7) Refer to the Chapter 4, Airworthiness Limitations, Compressor Drive Motor Brush Replacement schedule to see if any
requirements must be completed at this time based on compressor hours.
(8) Complete Inspection Task 21-52-00-213 if any of the following conditions exist:
(a) If vapor cycle system 500 compressor hour maintenance is due. Refer to Chapter 5, Components Time Limits and
the applicable Enviro Systems Inc. Component Maintenance Manual (CMM) 21-00-00 (R-12 systems) or 21-00-27
(R134a systems).
(b) If vapor cycle system 500 compressor hour maintenance will become due before the next scheduled Vapor Cycle
Cooling System Hour Meter Check.
(c) If the last time the vapor cycle system 500 hour compressor hour maintenance was completed is not known.
(9) Install the aft baggage compartment access panels that were removed. Refer to Chapter 6, Access Plates and Panels
Identification - Description and Operation.
