    1. Read the following extract carefully and summarize the importance of computers
    for businesses. (Dependent)

    Computers have become a necessity for both small and large businesses today. It takes a
    computer less than a second to retrieve information that takes a person several hours to
    obtain. It is for this reason that banks, airlines, and fast food restaurants rely so heavily on them.
    In addition, computers can store large amounts of data in a relatively small space.Because of
    this, offices need less storage space equipment such as file cabinets and supply closets.

    Computers are important for businesses because of their speed in retrieving


    information and their ability to store large amounts of data in small spaces.

    2. Read the following extract carefully and then, in not more than 55 words,
    summarize the advantages to the shopper of shopping in malls and plazas.

    In the last few years shopping malls and plazas have emerged as the new form of shopping in
    the Caribbean. Their impact on shoppers has been tremendous and there is no doubt that they
    have come to stay. Shoppers now have access to a collection of "speciality shops", each of
    which has a wider range of particular kinds of items that would be the case in the traditional
    department store. For example, shoes would comprise only one section of a department store,
    whereas a shoe store in one of these malls or plazas would display nothing but shoes.

    But are these malls really in the best interest of the shopper? They facilitate one-stop shopping
    and they are clean. Moreover, what better place to meet your friends in town than in these bright
    and luxurious surroundings? But, isn't the shopper paying dearly for all this luxury? Don't
    specialty shops by their very nature encourage the shopper to part with money for things he or
    she does not really need? Wouldn't the shopper definitely fare better by patronizing the
    traditional department stores?
    Some argue that the main advantage of these malis and plazas is that they provide the
    opportunity for more people to be entrepreneurs; in other words, the opportunity for more people
    to own and manage their o.."rn businesses. As a result, the economic activity generated by
    these small businesses enable the country as a whole to enjoy a better standard of living"

    Shopping malls and plazas provide the shopper with a greater variety of particular items than
    the traditional department store. In addition, the shopper has the convenience of satisfying most
    of his or her needS on one location. These malls are also clean, bright and luxurious, and a
    good place to meet friends.
