(must not be invoiced under the warranty).

Important information
These installation instructions are primarily designed for use within the BMW dealership organisation and by
authorised BMW service companies.
These installation instructions are intended for use by qualified specialist staff trained on BMW cars with
the relevant expert knowledge.
All work must be completed using the latest BMW repair manuals, wiring diagrams, servicing manuals and work
instructions, in a logical order, using the prescribed tools (special tools), and observing current health and safety
regulations.

If you experience installation or functional problems, restrict troubleshooting to approx. 0.5 hours
for mechanical work and 1.0 hour for electrical work.
To avoid unnecessary extra work and/or costs, send an inquiry straight away to the technical parts support team via
the Aftersales Assistance Portal (ASAP).
Quote the following information:
- VIN,
- retrofit kit part number,
- a detailed description of the problem,
- any work already carried out.
Do not archive the hard copy of these installation instructions, since daily updates are supplied in ASAP!

will not be reimbursed by BMW AG.
Additional cables/lines that you install must be secured with cable ties.
If the specified PIN chambers are occupied, bridges, double crimps or twin-lead terminals must be used.
All illustrations show LHD (left-hand drive) cars; proceed similarly on RHD (right-hand drive) cars.
After completing the installation work, the M Performance steering wheel must undergo initial adjustment.

8. Concluding work, coding and basic settings for the M Performance steering wheel II
with Race Display
The retrofit system does not require coding.
- Connect the battery
- Conduct a brief test
- Conduct a function test
- Re-assemble the car
- Make basic settings

Basic settings
Two basic settings must be performed once installation is complete to ensure that the system functions correctly.
To access the “Basic settings” menu, press and hold the left button L and right button R on the M Performance
steering wheel D at the same time for at least two seconds whilst you switch on the ignition. A menu then appears
for a few seconds in which the software version is displayed. The display then automatically skips to the first menu
item:
- Use the left L and right R buttons to toggle between diesel and petrol cars (the box around the symbol means
selected).
- Push the right button R to save the setting.
You will then automatically be taken to the “Correction for engine speed” setting. With the engine running,
you can compare the speed between the display on the steering wheel and the display on the dashboard.
- Keep the engine running at a constant speed which is easy to read (for example 2000 rpm).
- Compare the display on the steering wheel with the display on the rev counter.
- Press the left button L to reduce the correction factor or the right button R to increase the correction factor until
the two displays are identical.
- Switch off the ignition. The settings will be saved automatically.

Cars with steering wheel heating (SA 248)

If fitted with steering wheel heating (SA 248), the heating function will not work, the heating key on the steering
column will have no function when fitted. An error memory entry be made in the control unit but this can be ignored.
If necessary, a blind cover can be ordered (see EPC for information and part number).

Demo mode
A demo mode of approx. 120 seconds can be activated in an endless loop to provide an overview of the functions
of the M Performance steering wheel D.
- When you switch on the ignition, press and hold the left L and right buttons R on the M Performance steering
wheel D at the same time.
- In the “Basic Settings” menu, press the left L and right buttons R on the M Performance steering wheel D at
the same time for approx. 2 seconds. Demo mode will start in an endless loop.
- Switch off the ignition to end demo mode.
