Course Learning Outcomes

At the end of the course, students should be able to:

1. Analyze various ideas, theories and principles relating to educational psychology and
human growth (C3)
2. Distinguish the application of various learning theories in the classroom and beyond (A4)
3. Evaluate factors relating to motivation and classroom management (C5)

Course Description

This course introduces students to various aspects of educational psychology and their
importance to classroom instruction. The following major topics will be discussed: theories of
human growth and development; learning theories and their relationship to learning in school;
and motivation and factors that motivate learning. Other relevant issues such as addressing
the variations of learners, socio-cultural and religious perspectives on teaching and learning
as well as managing the classroom will also be discussed.

 Concepts, principles and importance of educational psychology
 Research in educational psychology

2. Human growth and development


 Development: An overview
 Types of development: physical, cognitive, socioemotional and ethical-moral

3. Individual Variations
 Intelligence, learning styles, personality
 Exceptional learners

4. Learning theories and practice


 The processes and major approaches to learning, Behavioral, Social-Cognitive,
Information-Processing Approach, and Constructivist

5. Motivation and learning


 Theories of motivation
 Factors influencing motivation and methods of motivating students

6. Classroom management
1. The importance of management
2. Dealing with problems behaviors

7. Other issues in teaching and learning

Teaching Methodology

Case Study, Collaborative Learning, Discussion, Field Work, Interactive Lecture, Lectures,
Project-based Learning, Small Group Sessions
