Induction Motors

6-4 The following test results are obtained from 3φ,360 hp, 2200 V, six-pole, 60 Hz squirrel-cage
star connected, induction motor.
1. No-load test:
Supply frequency= 60 Hz
Line voltage= 2200 V
Line current= 4.5 A
Input power=1600 W
2. Blocked-rotor test:
Frequency= 15 Hz
Line voltage= 270 V
Line current= 25 A
Input power= 9000 W
3. Average dc resistance per stator phase: 𝑅1 = 2.8 𝛺

a)Determine the no-load rotational loss (ignore rotor resistive power loss).
b)Determine the parameters of the equivalent circuit of the figure below (the core losses are
ignored r𝐶 = 0).

6-2 Consider a 4-pole, 60 Hz, 440 V three phase delta-connected induction motor with the following
model parameters: 𝑅1 = 0.2 𝛺; 𝑋1 = 𝑋2’ = 1.0 𝛺; 𝑅2’ = 0.3𝛺; 𝑅𝑐 = 250 𝛺; and Xm = 40 Ω. The
mechanical frictional losses at normal speed are 2.5 kW.
Find the input line current, the output power and the efficiency at the full load speed of 1728 rev/min.

6-3 A 50-kW, 440-V, 50-Hz 6-pole induction motor has a slip of 6 percent when operating at full-load
conditions (where the output power is 50-kW). At full-load conditions, the friction and windage losses
are 300W, and the core losses are 600 W. Find the following values for full-load conditions:
(a) the shaft speed Nm
(b) The load torque 𝜏𝑙oa𝑑 in newton-meters
(c) The induced torque 𝜏em in newton-meters
(d) The rotor current frequency in Hertz.

6-4 A three-phase Y-connected 220-V (line-to-line) 7.5-kW 60-Hz six-pole induction motor has the
following parameter values in Ω/phase referred to the stator synchronous speed frame:
𝑅1 = 0.294 𝛺 𝑅2 = 0.144𝛺
𝑋1 = 0.503𝛺 𝑋2 = 0.209𝛺 𝑋𝑚 = 13.25𝛺

The total friction, windage and core losses may be assumed to be constant at 403W, independent of
load. The slip is 1.5 percent, and the motor is operated at rated voltage and frequency.

(b) Calculate the stator current and power factor.
(c) Calculate the input power, the stator power loss, the airgap power and the rotor power loss.
(d) Calculate the mechanical power, the output (shaft) power and the power conversion
