2. About GeoGebra
 GeoGebra is a dynamic mathematics software that allows users to explore and
visualize mathematical concepts through interactive tools and features. In simple
terms, GeoGebra is a software tool that helps you learn and teach mathematics by
making it interactive and engaging.

 It's commonly used for educational purposes and helps users understand various
mathematical topics by providing a platform to create, manipulate, and experiment
with geometric shapes, algebraic equations, and more.

 The software for all levels of education brings geometry, algebra, spreadsheets,
graphics, statistics, and calculus into one engine.

 Free and open source : available for free and source code is opened for
develpoer. This accessibility has contributed lot in Its success in educational
contexts.

 Interactive applets : applets can be emebedded with websites and can be shared
with others this helps the user to explore mathemetical concepts in GeoGebra
without installation.

 Community and resources : GeoGebra has large online community where user
can share there work and collaborate on projects.

3. Importance of GeoGebra :
You may heared the line “If a child can't learn the way we teach, maybe we
should teach the way they learn” .Ignacio Estrada

As we know there many students who are affraid of mathemetics and but its because of
the way we teach is more teacher centred, specially in mathemetics but with the help of
GeoGebra we can do some changes in our teaching which should be student centered as
well. How....................? Lets do one small activity

Activity : Draw a Circle of any Diameter and show that Diameter is equals to twice of
the Radius. If we do this activity on chart/blackboard we need the following
materials.

Try to do this with both methods one is as we do regularly, and second with the help
of GeoGebra. Then you will get to know the importance of GeoGebra.

Material Required : Chart/ Black board, Pencil/ chalk, Geometry box, eraser, sketch pens/
color chalks. But in case of unavailability, GeoGebra came into existance to make
mathemetics more interactive and easy to learn and do the projects with the help of large
number of tools and features.

Steps followed in GeoGebra :

1. Open GeoGebra tool and go to Circ and Arc tools and
2. Select Circle with center through point and Draw the circle on graphics view
3. Go to Line tools and select segment between two points
4. Select the ponits of a circle to draw a segment
5. Create a object using input bar and select α = 2 * a i.e. Radius of the given circle and
enter to get the Diameter
6. Go special object tools ans select insert text box and assign
Dieameter of circle = 2 * Radius(a) = α to show the results dynamically

After step 2 After step 3

After step 4 After step 5

After step 6 Dynamical result

(2) Chapter 3: Lines and angles :

1) Anlge Sum Property of Triangle :

India Literacy Project 7

GeoGebra

1) Anlge Sum Property of Triangle :

Steps:
1. Draw a Triangle using polygon tool that is ABC

2. Use angle tool to draw the interior angles select segment

ca|ac|ba in clockwise direction. Make sure that you have
checked show label option to get segment name |abc

3. To show both name & value of the angle A,B,C in

graphics view, go to angle object properties in basic tab
select name &value from drop down list of show label.

4.Take in inputbar and give the input as δ=(α+β+δ) press

enter we will get the one more dependent object i.e. δ=180
where α+β+δ=180

5. Insert a textbox using text tool, and write the text you
want disply refer fig.

6. Now you can drag the angles A,B,C and you will notice
that in every triangle the sum of angles is equal to 180

 Now we will observe the vertically opposite angles theorem in Geogebra.

 Let us represent above theorem in Geogebra tool by following below steps:

 Step1: First draw two lines AB and CD by going to

Lines section and Segment between two points
option.
 Step2: Using point section and New point option, add
point ‘O’ where the two lines intersected.

India Literacy Project 9

GeoGebra

 Step3: Now go to Angle section and click on

Angle option, now click on point A,O and C
respectively then we will get Angle AOC then
click on point D,O and A respectively then we
will get Angle DOA.
 As you can observe in the figure
Angle AOC = 78.49o and
Angle DOA = 101.51o

 Step4: Repeat step3 with Angle BOD and Angle

COB.
 Now you can observe the angles as shown in
the figure.
Angle BOD = 78.49o and
Angle COB = 101.51o
 After above observation we can say “If two
lines intersected each other, then the
vertically opposite angles are equal”.

Angle AOC = Angle BOD

Angle DOA = Angle COB

(7 ) Trignometry ratio of some specific angles

 Step1: Draw two point A and B and one

slider with angle property, give angle as
alpha,min value 0, max 90o Increment
value 5.

India Literacy Project 11

GeoGebra

 Step2: Go to Angle section and click on

Angle with given size option and give
angle as Alpha with counter clockwise
option.

 Step3: Now draw a line AB, then by using

move option you can change the slider
position, with the slider position change, the
angle will also change.

 Step4: Draw a perpendicular line from point B

to horizontal line AB1 then draw a line segment
from point B to point C.

India Literacy Project 12

GeoGebra

 After wards we can hide the

perpendicular line by right click on
perpendicular line and click on show
object option.

 Then it looks like as shown in the figure.

 Step5: Now specify the distance between

the sides by going to Angle section and
clicking on Distance or length option. And
observe the sides value changes as the
slider values changes.

India Literacy Project 13

GeoGebra

 Step6: In Input bar Write K = BC/AB, as

Trigonometric ratio for sine function is
Opposite/Hypoteneus.
 Now go to Text Section and click on Insert Text
option, one small Text window will be opened,in
that Edit section write the script.
 Take Alpha as Angle (which we have taken
before ) from objects option in Text window.

 For sine function write the script as shown in the

figure.
SineAlpha = BC/AB
= distanceBC/distanceAB
=K

 Step7: After writting the sine

function script,we can observe the
sine values with different angles.
 As we can see in the figure
sin45o = 0.71(1/√2).

 Likewise if we change the angle through

slider then we will be observing different
values.
 As we can see in figure when the angle is
90o the value will be 1.
 Try with different angles.
