DOGS V.

S CATS

Based on “Best Pet Boarding Delhi Gurgaon, dog daycare service, pet bathing &
grooming. (2023, September 21). https://www.anotherhome.in/blog/10-
reasons-dogs-are-better-than-cats”. These are the possible claims of why are
dogs are the best

Statement 1: Dogs Help You To Stay Active And Fit

Counterclaim 1: It's crucial to remember that cats can also support a healthy
lifestyle, even while dogs are undoubtedly active animals and can inspire their
owners to exercise. Cats are inherently lively, and interactive playtime with toys
may keep both the cats and their owners engaged. To make sure their feline
companions get outside exercise, some cat owners even lead and harness their
feline companions on walks.

Statement 2: Dogs Adapt Better to Atmosphere

Counterclaim 2: Cats may adapt to new circumstances with time and
consideration, while dogs may seem to do so more rapidly. Cats are
renowned for their independence, which enables them to feel confident in
a variety of living situations and get comfortable there. For people who
cherish their independence, they might initially take a little longer to get
used to, although this does not necessarily make them less acceptable as
pets.

Statement 3: Dogs Are Easy to Train

Counterclaim 3:Because of their inherent desire to please their humans,
dogs are frequently easier to train than cats. Cats may, however, be
trained to perform tricks and comply with orders, particularly when the
process is patiently carried out and rewarding. Cats can be just as
enjoyable to train as dogs, even though it may take more time and effort.
Statement 4: Dogs are Human’s Best Friend
Counterclaim 4: Science has finally proven that cats are just as competent
as their canine counterparts to position themselves as man’s best friends.
Cats’ enigmatic personalities have unfairly led to assumptions that their
aloofness demonstrates an inability to connect and bond with humans.
But researchers at Oregon State University found that cats are able to —
and do — form strong bonds with humans much the same way dogs do. In a
study published in Cell Press, the lead author Kristyn Vitale said cats
“share social traits once attributed to dogs and humans.” Scientists
conducted tests on more than 100 cats to measure how strongly they
connected with humans after short absences. Similar tests had been done
on dogs and primates. Their findings? Much like apes and dogs, cats form
secure and insecure bonds with their human caretakers. "Like dogs, cats
display social flexibility in regard to their attachments with humans,"
Vitale said in a statement. "The majority of cats are securely attached to
their owners and use them as a source of security in a novel environment…
Your cat is depending on you to feel secure when they are stressed out.”
Another scientific study conducted in 2011 and reported in TIME also
concluded that cats and their human caretakers “form strong social bonds
and a mutual understanding based on affection—and maybe just a little
indulgence.” The report further stated, “The study showed that the
dynamics underlying the relationship between mutually adoring cats and
their humans are nearly identical to human-to-human bonds.” So move
over Fido! Cats have equal rights to be considered as man’s best friend.

It's crucial to understand that although cats can also develop close
relationships with their owners. Cats can express their affection in a variety of
ways, like as headbutting, purring, and cuddling up next to their owners. The
emotional bond between cats and their owners can be equally as strong and
significant as it is with dogs, despite the differences in how they display their
love.
Statement 5: Dogs act as a medium of safety and protection
Counterclaim 5: Cats are often stereotyped as standoffish and aloof, even to
the people who love them most, but the truth is that cats can be just as
protective of their people as dogs are of theirs. Put simply, cats love their
family and their family loves them right back. In a groundbreaking study
published in 2011, researchers showed for the first time that "cat-human
relationships are nearly identical to human-only bonds," according to NBC
News.

You might not realize how closely your cat pays attention to where you are and
what you're doing. Petful highlights a cat who protected a child from a dog
attack as well as numerous cats who alerted their humans to medical
emergencies, including cancer and carbon monoxide poisoning. Kitties use their
razor-sharp hearing and smelling abilities to keep their pet parents safe.

More frequently, cats try to protect their pet parents from people they
consider to be dangerous. Although cats are fierce predators, humans can seem
big and scary to some cats. It's instinctual for a cat to defend their territory and
yours.

Cats can also give a sense of security, but dogs are frequently thought of as
protective creatures and may bark or act aggressively in response to potential
threats. Because of their propensity for attentiveness, cats can serve as a
deterrent to pests like rats. When they perceive danger, certain cats may
vocalize or hide, which can act as an early warning system for their owners.
Statement 6: Dogs are a medium of laughing & Entertainment
Counterclaim 6: A cat has the ability to both calm your nervous system and
provide an immediate outlet for fun and play. Although cats are independent
animals who like to scavenge and explore on their own terms, they are also very
affectionate with their owners and people they trust. One of the great benefits
of owning a cat is that you don’t need much space to play and have fun
together. Unlike large animals who need plenty of space to play fetch or run
around, all you need with a cat is your living room and a little imagination.
Beyond a ball of yarn, there are plenty of other ways to entertain and bond with
a cat.
Play hide and seek. An old childhood sleepover favorite can now become you
and your fluff ball’s favorite pastime. Just hide a toy or an object that
interests them under a blanket, and watch your cat scavenge.
Use an app. iPhone and Android applications offer games to keep your cat
entertained, including catching fish or bugs as they appear on screen. See

Cats can playfully misbehave by chasing laser pointers or pounce on feather

toys, for example. Additionally, many cat owners find pleasure and satisfaction
in the calming influence of a cat's presence, as they watch them cuddle up on
their lap or purr happily.

Statement 7: Dogs are Cleaver and Smarter

Counterclaim 7: Cats are generally considered smarter than dogs, just because
of their more independent nature and ability to solve problems on their own.
But dogs are known as more trainable, able to learn a wide variety of tricks, and
even perform jobs like search and rescue. But what does it mean to be smart?
Comparing animal intelligence is challenging because intelligence is hard to
define, and different species have different types of intelligence. For example, a
bird may be fantastic at navigating large distances but unable to solve a basic
puzzle.
So, what does intelligence mean for dogs and cats? Can we compare cat IQ vs
dog IQ? Not exactly. There’s cognitive intelligence, which includes problem-
solving, memory, and emotional intelligence, but there is also practical
intelligence, which refers to an animal’s ability to survive and thrive in the wild.
In this regard, cats are better hunters than dogs, but dogs are more emotionally
intelligent, having adapted over time to understand humans.

Cats, however, possess a distinct brain and set of instincts. They are skilled
hunters and thinkers of solutions. They have proven useful in reducing insect
populations, which can be crucial in some circumstances, because to their
excellent senses and hunting skills.
