The occurrence of e-commerce and online shopping has transformed the way
consumers engage in commercial transactions, providing them with convenient access
to a wide range of products and services. Maripipi Island, located in the Province of
Biliran Island, is not exempt from the influence of this digital marketplace. As online
shopping gains popularity among residents, it is important to understand the factors that
shape their online shoppers' experience and subsequent consumer behavior.
The rationale behind this research result from the need to address the limited
understanding of the unique context and factors influencing online shoppers in Maripipi
Island. While numerous studies have explored online consumer behavior in various
contexts, there remains a lack of research specifically focusing on small island
communities such as Maripipi Island.
Furthermore, understanding the factors that influence consumer behavior in the online
context can have broader implications beyond Maripipi Island. The findings may shed
light on universal or context-specific factors that impact online shoppers' experience,
offering valuable insights to researchers, practitioners, and policymakers in similar
island communities or rural areas facing similar challenges.
To achieve these objectives, this research will employ a combination of quantitative and
qualitative research methods. Through surveys, interviews, and data analysis, we aim to
explore the various factors that affect online shoppers' experience in Maripipi Island,
including but not limited to technological infrastructure, trust, perceived convenience,
product variety, and social influence.
Theoretical Background:
The Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) is a widely used theoretical framework for
understanding consumers' acceptance and use of technology. It posits that perceived
usefulness and perceived ease of use are key determinants of consumers' intentions to
use and adopt online shopping platforms. In the context of Maripipi Island, exploring the
factors that influence online shoppers' experience would involve examining how
perceived usefulness and ease of use impact consumers' adoption and engagement
with online shopping platforms.
