module:
As a facilitator you are expected to orient the learners on how to use this module. You
also need to keep track of the learners' progress while allowing them to manage their
own learning. Furthermore, you are expected to encourage and assist the learners as
they do the tasks included in the module.
For the learner:

The hand is one of the most symbolized part of the human body. It is often used to
depict skill, action and purpose. Through our hands we may learn, create and
accomplish. Hence, the hand in this learning resource signifies that you as a learner is
capable and empowered to successfully achieve the relevant competencies and skills at
your own pace and time. Your academic success lies in your own hands!

What’s In
Now, let’s first review your previous lessons when you were still in Grade 11 Senior High
School About Setting Up Computer Networks (COC2). Use separate sheet of paper.
After reading the introduction and carefully answering the pre - assessment test, you
might have ideas of what you will be dealing with in this module. Your knowledge on
setting-up computer networks will also aid you in answering the activities in setting-up
computer servers. Now prepare to set yourself in reading, understanding, finding and
answering this module. Always write your answers on a separate piece of paper.
What’s New
The term network operating system is used to refer to two rather different concepts:
1. Peer-to-peer network
In a peer-to-peer network operating system
users are allowed to share resources and files
located on their computers and access shared
resources from others. This system is not based with
having a file server or centralized management
source. A peer-to-peer network sets all
connected computers equal; they all share the
same abilities to use resources available on the
network.
• Ease of setup
• Less hardware needed, no server need be acquired
The disadvantages include:

In Setting Up Server and Client or CSS Core Competency #3 (COC3), you must know
the stages and or step by step procedure in performing, setting and configuring the
server and client computers. In which you will need to facilitate those procedures to
established a quality standard in order to satisfy your client. In this module, we learn
how to deal with computer server and client which in demand these days. I learn things
such as:
1. How to create user folder in accordance with network operating system
features.
2. Configure user access level based on Network Operating Software features.
3. Establish network access policies/end user requirements.
4. Perform security check in accordance with established network access
policies / end user requirements.
5. Difference be twee n se rve r/ clien t ne two r k a n d pee r to peer ne tw or k
t hei r v ari ou s interfaces and their various advantages and disadvantages.
6. Familiarize between a Network Operating System and common Operating
System.
7. Configuration between a Network Operating System and common Operating
System.
Learning is fun, and that was proven by our lesson. Using your travelogue,
share/present your experiences in a creative way.
What I Can Do
After learning the procedures in Setting Up Computer Servers and Networks. You are now to
prepare a list of resources and requirements in building your own computers networks. By
following, reading and understanding the instructions below, here’s what you can do to
practice your capability and knowledge that you have learning in this module.
Directions: In each number, carefully read, follow and understand the instructions
indicated. (Write your answer in a separate sheet of paper).
1. Draw your own floor plan of your dream business with the computers
assigned in each area. Indicate the network topology you used based on
what you have learned in COC2.
2. After completing number one (1), write complete computer
specifications in each computer based on what you have learned in
COC1 and resources, tools and equipment you will need.
3. After completing number two (2), write the steps in configuring the
server computer by detailing the steps in configuring the computer
name and workgroup name.
4. Next, after completing number three (3). What are the steps in
Changing the advance sharing settings?
5. After completing number four (4), What are the steps in creating and
sharing folder?
6. After completing number five (5), What are the procedures in accessing
the shared folder through the network?
7. After completing number six (6), What are the steps and procedures in
installing Windows Server 2008 R2 and Windows 7 to your computer?
8. After completing number seven (7), What are the procedures to
permanently set you static IP and preferred DNS server?
9. After completing number eight (8), what are the steps in installing
active directory domain services (ADDS) and running services for the
server?
10. And lastly, after completing number nine (9), What are the steps in
joining your client computer to domain controller?
Assessment
