Who Invented Twitter
Twitter?
Twitter was launched in 2006. But there still are many people who do not
know that its logo — a bird — has a name. It’s Larry T Bird. The inspiration
behind the name was Larry Bird, the basketball legend who was in Mumbai
recently for the NBA games. Biz Stone, Twitter’s co-founder, is from
Boston. And Boston means Boston Celtics and Larry Bird. Stone is on
record saying the logo was named after the sporting idol.
Impact
In May 2008, The Wall Street Journal wrote that social networking
services such as Twitter "elicit mixed feelings in the technology-
savvy people who have been their early adopters. Fans say they
are a good way to keep in touch with busy friends. But some
users are starting to feel too connected, as they grapple with
check-in messages at odd hours, higher cellphone bills and the
need to tell acquaintances to stop announcing what they're
having for dinner." The following year, John C. Dvorak described
Twitter as "the new CB radio".
