ASSIGNMENT 2

DUE DATE: 4th APRIL, 2024

PHYSICAL SUBMISSION

QUESTION 1
Fig. 1. shows a system of forces 𝐹̅1 , 𝐹̅2 and 𝐹̅3 in 3D acting on an idealized particle.

a) Determine the x, y and z scalar components of the resultant force F.

b) Express the Resultant Force F in cartesian vector form and determine the direction angles (α,β,γ).
c) Determine the magnitude of the rectangular component of 𝐹̅1 along the line of action of 𝐹̅2
d) The angle between 𝐹̅1 and 𝐹̅2

QUESTION 2

For Fig. 2. shows a support system for a wooden balcony, knowing that the tension is 1425 lb. in cable
AB and 1710 lb. in cable AC, determine the magnitude and direction of the resultant of the forces exerted
at A by the two cables.
