F. Concept: Parallel Structure refers to the use of grammatical elements or patterns that have the same
function and express similar and balanced ideas. For example, if the first word in a group or series of
words is a noun, then the following items should also be nouns; if it is a verb, then all the other items
should also be verbs.
Use parallelism in single words and phrases, such as;
1. Verb or Verb Phrases –(e.g. My sister walks and runs in the Plaza.), (Romeo cooked the foods,
washed the plates and watered the plants.)
2. Adjective – (e.g. Mark is industrious and helpful.)
3. Adverb or adverbial phrase – (e.g. Rose dances gracefuly and happily.) ; (The groups meet at night
and on weekends.)
4. Gerund and Gerund phrases (-ing form of the verb)
(e.g. Maria loves dancing, swimming and singing.); (May enjoys playing volleyball, singing love songs
and baking cakes.)
5. Infinitive or infinitive Phrases (e.g. Jason likes to read and to write)

What is Literature Literature refers to a body of written
works such as poetry, novels, history,
biography, and essays that reflects the
background of a certain culture. It is
derived from the Latin word
litaritura/litteratura which means
“writing formed with letters”.

Very well! Now, class we can correct the
inconsistency of these things by making them
similar to each other. However , inconsistency does
not only happen in things or ideas. In sentences we
can also see inconsistency or irregularities that
need to be corrected by making them parallel to
each other.
