ways can the team be chosen if;
(i) There are no restrictions?
(ii) There must be more boys than girls?

(b) If X and Y are two events such that P ( X ) = 2 5 , ( Y ) = 12

P X and

( X ) = 2 3 . Find:
P Y

(i) P( X Y)
(ii) P (Y )
(iii) P( X Y)

(c) The random variable 𝑋 has the probability distribution table as shown below;
Variable, X 1 2 3 4 5

Probability of x 0.19 0.21 k 0.18 0.01

Find:

2. (a) Determine the truth value of each of the following statements:
(i) If 6< 4, 𝑡ℎ𝑒𝑛 − 4 < −6
(ii) It is not true that 2+2=4 if and only if 3+4=5
(b) By using laws of algebra of proposition, prove that the contra positive of conditional
~𝑞 → (𝑝˅𝑞) Logically implies its converse.
(c) Use the laws of algebra of propositions to simplify the statement
𝑞˅(𝑝˄~𝑞)˅(𝑟˄𝑞) and draw the corresponding simple electrical network.
3. (a) Use vector method prove sine rule
(b) ) Find the unit vector perpendicular to each of the vectors a + b and a − b if vector
a = 3i + 2 j + 2k and b = i + 2 j − 2k .

(c) Forces of magnitudes 5, 3,1 units acting in the directions 2𝑖 + 2𝑗 + 3𝑘,

3𝑖 − 2𝑗 + 2𝑘, 2𝑖 − 3𝑗 − 2𝑘 respectively act on a particle, which is displaced
from the point (3, −1, −3) to (5, −1,2). Find the work done by the forces.
