SQP

a) A tank contain water for a height of 0.5 m and an immiscible liquid of Specific gravity 0.8
above the water for height of 1m find the resultant pressure per meter length of tank .

b) A horizontal pipe carrying water tapers from 20 m diameter at A to 10 cm diameter at B in


a length of 2 m. The pressure at A is 100N/cm² . If the discharge is 600 lit/min calculate
pressure at B in N/cm² . If the loss of head from A to B is 10cm.

c) Describe with sketch working of current meter.

d) Calculate total pressure and center of pressure for a rectangular plate 2m wide and 4 m
deep which is immersed in water such that its plane makes an angle 250 with water surface.

a) Calculate the resultant pressure on the partition wall and position at which it acts when a
partition wall 2m long divides a storage tank, on one side, there is turpentine of specific
gravity 0.87 upto a depth of 1.5m.On the other side, there is paraffin of specific gravity 0.80
up to a depth of 1m.

b) Calculate pressure at section ‘B’ by neglecting losses for following data-Water is flowing
through a horizontal pipe having diameters 20cm and 10cm at section ‘A’ and ‘B’ respectively.
The discharge passing through pipe is 30 lit/sec. and pressure at section ‘A’ is 350 kN/m².

c) Explain the position of occurrence of hydraulic jump and state it’s uses also.

d) Calculate total pressure and centre of pressure for a rectangular plate of size 4X3m.It is
immersed vertically in water with 3m side parallel to free liquid surface and top of plate is
3.5m below free liquid surface.

a) A masonry dam 8 m high and 3m wide has water level 2 m below its top. Calculate – 1) Total
pressure on one meter length of dam. 2) Depth of Centre of pressure.

b) State Bernoulli's theorem and state the assumption made in it.


c) State the difference between orifice and notch.

d) A circular plate 3 m diameter is immersed in water in such that, greatest and least depth
below the free surface of water are 6 m and 3 m respectively. Determine the total
hydrostatics pressure on the plate.

a) A partition wall 2m long divides a storage tank. On one side there is turpentine of specific
gravity 0.87 upto a depth of 3m. On the other side there is paraffin oil of specific gravity 0.82
stored to a depth of 2m. Determine the resultant pressure on partition wall and the position
of it.

b) Explain simple U tube manometer with a neat sketch.

c) Calculate the specific weight, density, specific volume and specific gravity of 1.5 litres of
fluid which weighs 6N.

d) Water flows with velocity 2m/s through a pipeline which gradually reduces from 450mm
diameter at A to 300mm diameter at B and then from B branches into 2 pipes. One branch
being 150mm diameter discharging at C and the other branch 225mm diameter discharging
at D. If the velocity at D is 4m/s. What will be the discharge at C and D.

a) Explain the procedure for measurement of density of an oil in laboratory.

b) A differential manometer connected to two pipes A and B in a pipeline containing an oil of


specific gravity 0.75. A manometer reading is 0.75 m of calcium carbide of specific gravity
1.05 .Find the pressure difference in kPa. If points A and B are at the same level and oil flows
from A to B as shown in Fig. No. 1.
c) Explain with sketch working of syphon pipe.

d) State with sketch different shapes of Artificial channels. Give the formula for wetted area,
wetted perimeter for any two.

a) a) A square plate is submerged vertically in oil of specific gravity 0.9 as shown in Fig. No. 1.
Find the total pressure and position of centre of pressure.
b) Explain Reynold's number with its equation and give its significance.

c) Differentiate any four points between notch and weir.

d) A concrete dam 15 m deep and 2 m wide containing water to a depth of 10 m. Find total
hydrostatic pressure per meter run and centre of pressure on upstream face.

e) Water is flowing through a rectangular channel of width 5 m and bed slope 1 in 1200. Depth
of flow is 1.75 m. Find the discharge through the channel. Take c=50. Take c=50.
