SQP

a) Calculate loss of head and direction of flow for a pipe 300m long having slope of 1 in 200.
It tapers from 1.2m Diameter at higher end to 0.6m diameter at lower end. Discharge of water
flowing through pipe is 900 lit/Sec. Pressure at higher end is 7N/cm² and at lower end
11N/cm².

b) Calculate discharge through pipe line having length 50m and it is connected to a reservoir.
The head above inlet is 8 m and pipeline discharges freely at other end. The diameter of first
25 m length is 15 cm and for remaining length is 30 cm. Consider all losses (f=0.04) .

c) Calculate discharge and pressure difference between entrance and throat for a
Venturimeter of size 30x 15 cm if it is provided in a Vertical pipeline carrying oil of specific
gravity 0.9, the flow being upwards. The difference in elevation of throat selection and
entrance of Venturimeter is 50 cm the differential U tube mercury manometer show a gauge
deflection of 30cm.

a) Calculate pressure at lower end of pipe (neglect frictional losses) for following data-A
pipeline 300m long has a slope of 1:100 and tapers from 1.25 m dia. At higher end to 0.625m
dia. at lower end. Discharge through pipe is 100 lit/sec. Pressure at higher end is 9.81 N/cm².

b) Liquid is discharging at the rate of 50 liters per sec through a sharp edged orifice of
diameter 5cm placed under a constant head of 1.5m.A point on the jet measured from
venacontracta of the jet has co-ordinates 50 cm horizontal and 15cm vertical. Find Cc, Cd
and Cv of orifice.

c) Calculate the discharge flowing through the pipe when a venturimeter 30cm dia. at
entrance and 10cm dia.at throat is connected to the pipe in which water is flowing. The
difference in mercury level of manometer is 6cm.

a) Water is flowing through a horizontal pipe having diameters 25 cm and 15 cm at section A


and B respectively. The discharge passes through pipe is 50 lit/sec. If pressure at section A is
400 KN/m² . Calculate pressure at section B. neglect losses.

b) Two reservoirs are connected by a pipe line consisting of two pipes one of 15 cm diameter
and length 5 m and other of 25 cm diameter and 20 m length. If the difference of water level
in two reservoirs is 10 m. Calculate discharge.

c) Explain venturimeter with neat sketch, use, and principle and component parts of it.

a) Explain the main component parts of centrifugal pump with neat sketch.

b) A horizontal pipeline 50m long starts from a reservoir. The head above inlet is 8m. The
pipeline discharges freely at the other end. The diameter of first 25m length is 15cm. and for
remaining length is 30 cm. Calculate the discharge through pipeline taking F = 0.04 for both
the lengths of the pipe.

c) A sloping pipe line has diameter of 1m at higher end and 50cm at lower end. It carries
liquid at specific gravity 0.75 at 4800lpm. The length of pipe is 350m and it is laid on slope of
1 in 100. The pressure at lower end is 1200KN/m². Determine pressure at higher end.

b) Explain the major and minor Losses in pipe with their expression.

c) A pipe 20 cm diameter is 20 m Long and Velocity in pipe is 8 m/sec. what loss of Head
would be saved. if the last 5 m length of pipe is replaced by 30 cm diameter pipe, the change
in section being sudden ? Assume F = 0.04, for both pipes. Neglect entry and Exit Losses.

a) State the classification of losses in pipe with suitable sketches and equations for each.

b) Determine the most economical section of a trapezoidal channel for carrying discharge 15
m³/sec with bed slop of 1:4500. The side slopes are 4H:3V. Take Manning’s constant 0.015.

c) Calculate the power of the pump from following data.

(i) Total Static lift = 25 m

(ii) Diameter of suction pipe = 12 cm

(iii) Diameter of delivery pipe = 10 cm

(iv) Length of suction pipe = 5 m

(v) Length of delivery pipe = 50 m

(vi) F = 0.03 for both pipes

(vii) Q = 30 lit/sec.

(viii) Efficiency = 85%.

a) A conical pipe has diameter 40 cm at the larger end and 20 cm at the smaller end and
forms a part of a vertical main. The pressure head at the larger end is found to be 30 m and
at the smaller end 22 m of water. Find the discharge through the pipe, if the length of conical
portion is 2 m. assuming no losses and the larger end is at the top.

b) Two reservoirs are connected by a pipeline consisting of two pipes, one of 10 cm diameter
and length 6 m and other of 20 cm diameter and 16 metre length. If the difference of water
level in two reservoirs is 6 m, calculate discharge.

c) Water discharge at the rate of 0.09 m3/sec through 10 cm diameter vertical sharp edged
orifice placed under a constant head of 8 m. A point on the jet measured from vena
contracta of the jet has co-ordinates 4.5 m horizontal and 0.54 m vertical. Find the
coefficients Cc, Cd and Cv of the orifice.
