according to Features: Comparison and Contrast!

This Self-Learning Module was collaboratively designed, developed and


reviewed by educators from the Schools Division Office of Pasig City headed by its
Officer-in-Charge Schools Division Superintendent, Ma. Evalou Concepcion A.
Agustin, in partnership with the City Government of Pasig through its mayor,
Honorable Victor Ma. Regis N. Sotto. The writers utilized the standards set by the K
to 12 Curriculum using the Most Essential Learning Competencies (MELC) in
developing this instructional resource.
This learning material hopes to engage the learners in guided and
independent learning activities at their own pace and time. Further, this also aims
to help learners acquire the needed 21st century skills especially the 5 Cs, namely:
Communication, Collaboration, Creativity, Critical Thinking, and Character while
taking into consideration their needs and circumstances.

RECAP

We learned about identifying text-types according to features of Cause


and Effect, which is the relationship between events or things, where one is
the result of the other. Cause and effect relationship is a combination of
action and reaction. It is used to examine the reasons and the outcomes of a
certain situation.

LESSON

Today we are going to distinguish comparison and contrast.

Comparison or compare refers to the process of identifying the


similarities and differences between two things. Contrast on the other hand
refers only on identifying the differences between two things. Comparison
and Contrast is a style that discusses the similarities and differences of two
things, ideas, concepts, items, places, person, animals, and many other
things.

Comparing and Contrasting serves as a good introduction to Higher-


Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) of every pupil. We can see comparison and
contrast in many ways, such as doing our essays, stories and especially in
decision making.

Using Venn Diagram is the easiest way in sorting Compare and


Contrast. In Venn Diagram, similarities of the things were being written in
the inner circle while the differences are drawn in the outer circle, just like
in the picture.

and walk the trail, Louie loved to bike. Both boys really enjoyed finding
natural waterfalls to swim in. Martin and Louie also really loved eating fresh
fruit along the trails. Martin loved the hike up, while Louie loved the trek
