CHAPTER III

Diversity of
Learners
LESSON 1 Learner's Gender, Needs, Strengths, Interests, and
Experiences

Observation
A. Interview the following internal school stakeholders on how they

promote a gender sensitive school/classroom. Write their responses on

the lines provided below.

School principal

The principal claims that they give everyone in the school equitable

access to all of the resources available to them. They support all

students in participating in a wide range of activities without regard to

gender. Each of them ensures that the tools and resources at their

disposal offer and demonstrate gender-neutral methods.

Department head

The department head or level head claims that they make sure every

student in the school has equitable access to resources and

extracurricular activities. Within the classroom and school, gender

equality is always taken into consideration.

Cooperating teacher

My cooperating teacher, or CT, claims that they always take gender

equality into account in the classroom. Prior to organizing your class

discussions, you should think about the resources that will best serve

your lesson and the requirements of your students.

Guidance counselor
The school counselor claims that they are very aware of these factors.

They must support the academic growth and psychological issues of

the students in order to deliver and advance gender equity and

equality.

B. Discuss how the following steps create a progressive, student-centered

classroom.

1. Create ongoing projects.

According to what I've observed, the teacher helps the pupils and offers

direction on how to do their assignments. The projects now have to be

made by the students. As an observer, I am able to see the children's

progress since they are showcasing their skills and have the freedom to

think and design anything they would like to add to the ongoing project.

2. Integrate technology.

My observations show that students learn at a higher level when

technology is incorporated. Kids may access information, develop

interests, engage in activities, and advance their literacy via the use of

technology. Through the use of technology in the classroom, students gain

a number of skills that will facilitate their future career.

3. Replace homework with engaging in-class activities.

This measure, based on my findings, raises student involvement in the

classroom. Pupils become enthusiastic about completing homework and

would much rather engage on engaging projects than academic work.

Therefore, in my view, this is also the best approach to create a student-

centered classroom.

4. Eliminate rules and consequences.

I have seen that students provide feedback at the conclusion of the

semester. They plan to write their assessments on the box. Every teacher

has just one box. Participating in this kind of review will encourage

students to be discerning of their professors. The opinions expressed by

the students will be considered outstanding and student-focused.

5. Involve students in evaluation.

I have seen that students provide feedback at the conclusion of the

semester. They plan to write their assessments on the box. Every teacher has

just one box. Participating in this kind of review will encourage students to be

discerning of their professors. The opinions expressed by the students will be

considered outstanding and student-focused.

C. List down 10 strengths and weaknesses of the students from the class

you have observed.

Student Name Strengths Weaknesses

1. REY MARK Creative Impatient

2. .ANNIE Communication Filipino language

3. JEAN Playing Low scores

4. STEVE Sleep Wake up

5. LUIGIE Eat Love

6. RICA Sleep and eat Low scores

7. ALFREDO Eat Love

8. CARLO Responsibility Failure

9. SAMANTHA Sleep and eat Low scores

10. RALPH Sleep Wake up

Other comments and observations:

As far I observed that is all I have ask to my student in my class.

Processing

Read carefully and answer the following questions.

1. Based on your interviews with internal school stakeholders on how to

promote a gender-sensitive school/classroom, which of the answers is

the best? Why?

The teachers that I interviewed gave me excellent answers, but my

opinion is that the school principal's response is the greatest as it

relates to every topic and improves every student's demeanor and

mood. because it seeks to help students develop their personalities in

order to better equip them for roles in the community, workplace, and

home.

2. How will you determine the strengths and weaknesses of your

students?

I will utilize a variety of tactics, which apply in suitable strategies,

activities, or assessments such class surveys, reading time, question

and answer sessions, to ascertain the strengths and weaknesses of

the pupils. These might be useful to me in figuring out my pupils'

advantages and disadvantages. if they lack confidence in themselves,

have low reading and writing abilities, and so on.

3. Which among the steps on creating progressive, student-centered

classroom is the best step? Why?

incorporate technology: when students have access to a wide range of

engaging online resources, they are more inclined to participate in

almost any class activity.

4. How are you going to use the learners' needs and interests in creating

a more effective instruction?

By using strategies that meet students' needs and inspire their interest,
I could boost student participation in my class and improve the
effectiveness of my education. Addressing my lesson's aims and
objectives is made easier when I take into account the requirements
and interests of my students.

Reflection

Complete the following:

1. I realized that

Understanding your points of limitation allows you to identify potential

barriers for students, and as a teacher, you may take steps to prevent your

deficiencies from bringing a student down. Furthermore, recognizing a

student's talents aids in determining their areas of proficiency.

2. I believe that

If you know your strengths and weakness it allows you to gain knowledge

on how you aim an accomplishment.

3. I feel that

It is important to be knowledgeable about the gender- sensitive because it

aware us to be sensitive.

4. When I become a teacher, I will

Address to my student that gender- sensitivity is being aware of the

contrary of the gender. And we must show our respect and acceptance on

it context.
LESSON 2 Learners' Linguistic, Cultural, Socio-economic, and
Religious
Backgrounds

Observation

A. Ask your cooperating teacher for a copy of his or her School Form 1

(School Register). Paste a copy of the School Form 1 in the box below

and answer the following questions.

1. What is the grade and section that you have observed?

2. How many boys and girls are there? 36

3. What is the religion of the majority of the students? Roman catholic

4. What is the common mother tongue of the students? Bisaya

5. Does the class have a student who belongs to an ethnic group? Yes

B. List down 10 strategies your cooperating teacher can use to address

the individual differences (linguistic, cultural, socio-economic, and

religious backgrounds) of the students.

Strategy 1:To guarantee diversity and representation, include allusions to

and examples of many cultures in the school materials and discussions.

Strategy 2: To promote and monitor candid conversation about linguistic,

cultural, social- economic and religious origins, establishing a secure

environment where students may impart knowledge and gain insights from

one another.
Strategy 3:To provide a variety of ways for students to express

themselves, including written, spoken, visual, and kinesthetic exercises, to

accommodate their varying learning preferences and styles.

Strategy 4: To give pupils from different backgrounds the chance to work

in cooperative groups where they may exchange ideas and gain

knowledge from one anther's experiences.

Strategy 5: To give or assign a task to the students it allows them to

investigate and present their own linguistic or cultural heritage to help

them feel proud of and appreciative of their origins.

Strategy 6: To include multicultural text and literature that showcase a

variety of linguistic, cultural, social-economic, and religious origins to foster

understanding and empathy.

Strategy 7: To use diversified instruction and strategies, modifying lesson

plans and instructions resources to meet the needs of students with

different learning levels and skills levels.

Strategy 8: To hold frequent one- on -one meetings or check-ins with

students to provide a tailored learning environment and to address their

specific needs and problems.

Strategy 9: To provide materials or suggestions for after- school pursuits

or community initiatives that honors and value variety, inspiring kids to

discover and establish connections with their ethnic, linguistic,

socioeconomic or religious groups.

Strategy 10: To work together with parents and guardians to get

information about a student’s upbringing and experiences so that more

thorough understanding and individualized education plan may be

implemented.

C. Ask the cooperating teacher about how he or she gives importance to

differentiated instruction in his or her classes.

Through identifying different learning styles, modifying information, and

customizing differentiated approaches to fit each student's

requirements, I made differentiated education a top priority. This

guarantees that everyone of them will receive individualized

assistance, promoting thorough comprehension and involvement.

Processing

Read carefully and answer the following questions.

1. Does the number of boys and girls affect the classroom instruction?

How?

The proportion of boys and girls in the classroom may have impact on

the classroom dynamics and the relationship, but it shouldn’t have a

major effect on the method of instructions or the standard of education

given. And establishing a welcoming and equal learning atmosphere

that respects and honors every student, regardless of gender is

crucial.
2. Does the religious background of the students affect the preparation of

the lesson? How?

In order for the kids and their families to feel comfortable giving this

information, instructions must be intimately aware with the religious

backgrounds of the student. Because of this insight, teachers may create a

welcoming and culturally aware learning environment where student’s

religious practices and beliefs are respected.

3. Does the mother tongue of most of the students affect the medium of

instruction? How?

Its important to remember that the selection of the teaching medium

should also take into account the larger context, which includes the

curricular requirements, the language regulations in the education system,

and the specific language needs and talents of each student. A bilingual

or multilingual strategy, in which the mother tongue and a second

language are strategically employed to support language development

and academic performance, may be chosen in some circumstances.

4. Do the socio-economic differences of the students affect their learning?

How?

A multifaceted strategy is needed to address socioeconomic disparities

these strategies include providing equal access to resources, providing

focused assistance for students from underprivileged backgrounds and

fostering and inclusive and encouraging learning environment. By putting

tactics like extra academic support, mentoring programs, technology and

resource access, and culturally sensitive instructions into practice, we can

lessen the effects of socioeconomic gps and support every student's

academic success.

5. Are contextualization, localization, and indigenization of the curricula

being done to fit the cultural background of the students?

The goals of contextualization, localization, and indigenization of the

curriculum are to increase the significance and relevance of education to

the cultural backgrounds of pupils. It calls for cooperation with nearby

communities, advice from educators with a variety of cultural backgrounds,

and continual professional development for educators. Achieving a

balance between upholding academic standards and introducing culturally

appropriate curriculum that honors and represents students' cultural

origins is crucial

Reflection

Complete the following:

1. I realized that

Disparities in socioeconomic status can affect students' physical and

emotional health, which can therefore have an impact on their academic

performance. Students from lower socioeconomic backgrounds may be

more stressed out, have worse diets, or have less access to healthcare, all

of which might impair their focus, memory, and ability to fully participate in

the learning process.

2. I believe that
Learning a second or more languages might go more smoothly when

training is started in the mother tongue. It offers a solid foundation in

language abilities, which may subsequently be used to more successfully

acquire additional languages.

3. I feel that

Teachers have to make an effort to speak inclusively and provide

examples that neither support nor contradict any certain religion. This may

help kids from different religious origins feel appreciated and represented,

and it can also help them feel like they belong.

4. When I become a teacher, I will

promote candid conversations regarding religion may be helpful as long as

it is practiced in a polite manner. It offers a chance for children to ask

questions, express their opinions, and learn from one another's

experiences, encouraging tolerance and understanding.

C. Watch the film, Every Child is Special. After watching the movie, write a
reflection about the film.

Every Child is Special

(Title)
Speaks to a deep and universal truth that cuts beyond barriers imposed by education, socioeconomic
status, and culture. It captures the innate worth and individuality that each person have in their early
years. This stirring declaration asks for a paradigm change in the way we view and treat children,
challenging accepted conventions.

Fundamentally, it also promote inclusion and emphasizes how important it is to acknowledge and
value the variety of abilities, potential, and qualities that each kid possesses. It is a painful reminder
that no kid should be excluded or disregarded because of learning disabilities, cultural biases, or any
other perceived restrictions. Rather, it advocates for a social and educational structure that is designed
to value and support each child's uniqueness.

It also promotes an attitude that acknowledges the intrinsic value of every kid and conveys an
empowerment message. It makes us think about how it is our collective duty as a society to ensure
that every child has access to the resources and support they need to succeed. "Every Child is Special"
reminds us that investing in each child's growth and well-being goes a long way toward fostering a
more understanding, peaceful, and compassionate community in a world where variety is a strength.

Futures in the Philippines"

Reflection

Complete the following:

1. I realized that
Teachers find it extremely difficult to deal with talented and disabled pupils
because they need to employ a variety of tactics that are suited for their
teaching.
2. I believe that
When it comes to working with students who have disabilities, the first
expectation is to give them access to alternative methods of assessment;
the second is to make the learning environment as regular or "least
restrictive" as possible; and the third is to help them create individualized
educational plans. On the other hand, teachers need to have the qualities
of passion, adaptability, and subject-matter competence.
3. I feel that
In order to help students, teachers should listen more than they talk. Take
charge of the discussion and give students the chance to express their
feelings by giving them the opportunity.
4. When I become a teacher, I will
Employ a variety of techniques to successfully and efficiently teach my
pupils and transfer knowledge to them. I'll work hard and passionately at
my wonderful profession of teaching since it will enable me to transfer my
energy to my students.

and work with them to provide a supportive and customized learning

environment.

2. Among the different difficult circumstances given by the students,

which is the most complicated? Why?

One of the difficult situations that students encounter, number nine it

intricate. Family issues may cause this kid to l ack of motivation, which
might lead to tardiness and missed deadlines. Furthermore, their lack of

interest might make students think about quitting school. Moreover, the

teacher's circumstances can unintentionally impede their attempts.

B. In your own opinion, what is the best strategy to use when teaching a

student with chronic disorder?

It's crucial to find a balance, since giving them too much attention could
