    ROUTINE COMMUNICATION WITH DSC CALL


    A Netherlands Tanker Anthony Veder is approaching the Indonesian coast on its way to
    anchored. According to Indonesian law, tankers must report for anchorage by showing a
    anchorage permit at a near-shore port when entering the area. The Anthony Veder is a large
    tanker ship connected to the GMDSS and has DSC. It was 3pm at Wakiki Coast Guard
    Station on a day of heavy rain accompanied by very strong winds and high water waves.
    The DSC at Wakiki starts signalling and shows the following message:

    I am in the approach channel passing Sawarna Lighthouse.
    I am proceeding to the Coast Guard Station for check letter of anchorage permit.
    REQUEST: Please give instructions to reach Wakiki Coast Guard Station because my ship
    cannot see clearly the situation of the surrounding area.
    Over.
    Anthony Veder, This is Indonesian Coast Guard.
    INSTRUCTIONS: Proceed along the fairway. Pass Agung
    Lighthouse and proceed along the fairway distance 2.8 miles.
    Take fairway depth 8.5, course 453°. Proceed distance 0.9
    miles. You can see the information on your starboard side.
    I repeat: Proceed along the fairway. Pass Agung Lighthouse
    and proceed along the fairway distance 2.8 miles.
    Take fairway depth 8.5, course 458°. Proceed distance 0.9
    miles. You can see the information on your starboard side.

    This is Anthony Veder.
    UNDERSTOOD. I will proceed along the fairway and pass Agung Lighthouse.
    I will take fairway depth 8.5, steering course 453°. I will proceed along the fairway
