 A lotto is a game in which the


players choose numbers that are
match against those of the official
drawing, the winning numbers
typically paying large cash prizes.

Have you ever tried it?

Mechanics of the game:


a. Students will be grouped by row
and be given a ticket.
b. Each group will choose 5
numbers out of those 10 numbers.
c. I will draw 5 numbers at random.
d. For those groups who have a
matching 5 numbers against the
numbers I draw will have the
grand prize. Take note that the
numbers are in any order. In case
there is a tie, the winners will
share the “grand prize.”
e. For those students have a
matching 4 numbers from the
numbers I drew will have the
second prize. For 3 numbers, they
will have the third prize. “Again,
in case there are ties, the winners
will share for the prizes.

The class will be grouped into two and


each group will choose a leader to
explain your answer in the given activity.

Group 1:
Choose 3 snacks.
a. Select 2 snacks at a time.

selection.
c. Count the number of selections
you have made.

Group 2:
Choose 4 teachers in GNAS.
a. Select 4 persons at a time.
b. Illustrate or describe each
selection.
c. Count the number of selections
you have made.

Did it matter in what order you selected


the objects? Why and why not?

How about in our first activity, I asked


you to choose 5 numbers out of the 10
numbers from the ticket containing the
number 0 to 9. Did we consider the order
in which the numbers are drawn?

Now, upon doing the activities do you


have an idea to what would be our topic
this morning?

formula of combination and discuss the
two previous activities relating it to the
topic, Combination.

Is it possible for us to determine the


number of possible combinations from
the lottery that we have?

Combination- refers to the number of


ways of selecting objects from a set when
order is not important. The number of
combinations of n objects taken r at a
time is denoted by nCr = n!___
r!(n-r)!

How does it differ from permutation?

So, base from the solution, how will you


find the number of combinations of n
different objects taken r at a time.

Direction: Solve the following problems involving combinations.
(10 points each)

1. If a combination lock must contain 5 different digits, in


how many ways can a code be formed from the digits 0 to
9?
2. Mr. Azuelo wants to produce different sets of test
questions for his essay test. If he plans to do this by
putting together 3 out of 5 questions she prepared, how
many different sets of questions could he construct?

ASSIGNMENT

Instruction: In a ½ crosswise piece of paper answer the


following.

Problem: In a dance contest, each participating group must


perform 3 kinds of dance. If there are 4 choices for ballroom
dance, 8 choices for foreign dance, and 5 choice for hip-hop, in
how many possible ways can a dance group select their piece.
