Lesson Plan in Grade 7 English

EN7V-II-c-10

I. Objectives:
By the end of the lesson, the learners are expected to:
a. Determine the similar functions of simile, metaphor, personification
b. Classify the sentences into simile, metaphor, and personification
c. Formulate own examples of simile, metaphor, personification

II. Subject Matter:


 Topic: Figures of Speech
 Materials: Visual aids, strips of paper, cartolina, activity paper

III. Procedure:
a. Preliminaries
 Prayer
 Greetings
 Checking of Attendance
b. Review
 What was the previous topic?
 Do you have any idea what are simile metaphor, personification?
c. Motivation
Complete Me
 The teacher will group the class into 2 groups.
 Each group are given jumbled words. Students are expected to
form a sentence from the jumbled words.
 After they have formed the sentence, they will post it on the
board.

d. Lesson Proper
Figures of Speech
Simile: Simile is a figure of speech that directly compares two unlike things
using the words “like” and “as”. It’s a common literary device used to create
vivid imagery, emphasize a specific quality, or make complex ideas easier to
understand.
Example: 1. He was as strong as an ox.
2. The time flew like a bird.

Metaphor: Metaphor is a figure of speech that creates a comparison


between two things that are bot alike but share a similar characteristics.
Unlike simile, which uses “like” or “as” to indicate the comparison, a
metaphor directly states one thing is another
Example: 1. Life is a journey.
2. She was a ray of sunshine.
Personification: Personification is a figure of speech that gives human
qualities or characteristics to non-human things, animals, ideas, or concepts.
It’s a way of making these things seems more relatable and engaging.
Example: 1. The clock ticked impatiently.
2. Opportunity only knock once.

A. Activity
Identification
 The teacher will divide the class into 4 groups.
 The teacher will show sentences and students have to identify the sentence
either the sentence is simile, metaphor, or personification.
 The students will raise their answer through placards given the teacher. The
placards contains the words simile, metaphor, and personification.
 Each correct answer will give the group 3 points and 1 point for incorrect answer.

B. Analysis
 Why do we need to know the difference between simile, metaphor, and
personification?
 How can we differentiate simile, metaphor, personification from each other?
C. Abstraction
 What do you think is the similarity of simile to metaphor and personification?
 Why it is that simile and metaphor are closely related to each other than
personification?
D. Application
We are Indifferent
 The teacher will group the class into 3 groups.
 Each group will be given one figures of speech. 1 st group is simile, 2nd
is metaphor, and the 3rd is personification.
 Each group will have to complete 5 sentences on their assigned
figures of speech then they will show their output in front of the class.

IV. Evaluation
Direction: In a ½ sheet of paper, identify the following sentences by writing S
for Simile, M for Metaphor, and P for Personification.
1. Time is gold
2. Your face is like a clear sky.
3. The dog smiled at me.
4. The trees danced in the wind.
5. The apple is as red as blood.
6. The world is a stage.
7. She has a heart of stone.
8. The camera loves her.
9. Anxiety is sitting on her face.
10.Shine bright like a diamond.

V. Assignment
Directions: Research at least 5 each figures of speech that is not discussed but
often used in conversation.
