Pressure Plate and Clutch Disc, Remove and Install

Important: To prevent damage to the spring tangs of the thrust plate use KM-6263 to
remove and install the thrust plate.
Note the different lengths of the brackets for attaching KM-6263 to lower engine block.
Thrust plate and clutch disc for vehicles with self-adjusting clutch (SAC) are only available in
Aftersales as a set

Remove

2. Remove transmission

Important: KM-6263 may only be attached to the engine block and not to the oil pan.
3. Attach KM-6263 (1) to engine block.
• Screw in 4x bolt (arrows)
Note: Do not tighten bolts yet
4. Attach KM-6263-30 (4) to centring drift (5)

5. Fasten KM-6263
• Align KM-6263 in centre.
• Insert centring drift with KM-6263-30 (2) through KM-6263 into clutch plate and crankshaft (centre).
• Tighten bolt (1)
• Tighten nut (3)
• Tighten 4x bolt KM-6263 on engine block
6. Relieve stress on clutch disc
• Move KM-6263 (1) so that it rests against spring tangs of the thrust plate.
• Turn KM-6263 clockwise to the stop.
7. Remove thrust plate from flywheel
• Unscrew 6x bolt (arrows)
Note: Z13DTH: Unscrew 9x bolt
Note: Illustration L0007538 gives a better view of the clutch without KM-6263 and centring drift.
8. Detach thrust plate and clutch plate
• Turn KM-6263 (1) anticlockwise to the stop.
• Pull out centring drift with KM-6263-30 (2).
9. Check thrust plate and clutch disc for
wear
• replace if necessary
Note: Clutch plates contaminated by
foreign bodies (oil, cleaning agent etc.)
must be replaced as a matter of
principle. Check clutch disc for damage
and friction rust in the hub profile and
replace if necessary. Do not clean thrust
plate and clutch disc with a high
pressure cleaner or component washing
machine.
• Check clutch plate for wear: Check the
projection of the lining at the clutch
lining rivets. The clutch plate must be
replaced if the lining projection is less
than 0.5 mm. Also, press the clutch
plate onto the transmission input shaft
and check for ease of movement.

Install
Important: Before installing the clutch, for Z12XEP, Z14XEL and Z14XEP a guide drift (catalogue no. 6 14
730 / part no. 9157141) must be inserted in the crankshaft from the "Service" area. This guides the centring
drift.
Important: Lettering "transmission side" faces the transmission.
10. Attach clutch disc and thrust plate to flywheel.
• Centre thrust plate and clutch plate with centring drift and KM-6263-30 (1).
Note: For a clearer representation, illustration L0007540 shows clutch without KM-6263
• Screw in 6x new bolt (arrows)
Note: Z13DTH: Screw in 9x new bolt.
Note: Do not tighten bolts yet
11. Attach thrust plate to flywheel
• Turn KM-6263 (1) clockwise to the stop.
• Tighten 6x bolt
Note: Z13DTH: Tighten 9x bolt
Note: Tighten bolts crosswise.
– Bolt M6 12 Nm
– Bolt M7 15 Nm
– Bolt M8 28 Nm
12. Detach KM-6263 (1) from engine block.
• Turn KM-6263 (3) anticlockwise to the stop.
• Detach centring drift and KM-6263-30 (2).
• Unscrew 4x bolt KM-6263 on engine block

13. Install transmission
