Propaganda Techniques

Nowadays, connectivity among people is in a tick of a finger because of the
accessibility of modern technology. Thus, politicians, people in the government,
military, businessmen, celebrities, advertisers, and even ordinary people can easily
disseminate information worldwide through social media.
However, one person must be clever enough to screen reliable sources from
fake ones. This is where propaganda gets in. Propaganda is everywhere as they say.
It is persuasive information that intends the targeted people to take action.
Furthermore, propaganda is synonymous with advertisement and announcement
where it can be found in a newspaper, magazine, television, radio, media, and
internet.
Activity 1: Remember Me
Read carefully the conversation.
Cecilia: Hey! Myrna, how are you? You look so pretty with your long hair.
Myrna: Thanks! Cecilia. I switched to a new shampoo after I had seen it in a TV
commercial.

Cecilia: Oh, great! What a powerful ad! Haven’t you remembered our lesson
on biases? I think the ad was powerful enough to present the better side of
the product. That’s why you changed.
Myrna: Hmmm. I guess so.
Cecilia: I recalled when teacher Villaluz told us the interconnection of word bias with
propaganda. She said, “Propaganda is the spreading of information that
aims to convince the public to react or to take actions.” Because it intends to
convince people, propaganda has become biased and might give people the
wrong information.
Myrna: Well said, girl. Therefore, propaganda uses persuasion techniques to make
people respond to something. One thing we must also realize is that
propaganda can be seen everywhere. It is used by the government,
politicians, military, businessmen, celebrities, advertisers, and even by
regular people who are influencers in social media.
Cecilia: I can’t wait for teacher Villaluz to discuss these propaganda techniques. She
made mention of propaganda techniques in commercial advertising.
