V. PROCEDURES PRELIMINARY ACTIVITIES

(Prayer)
“Let’s start our class with a prayer. Please stand up bow your heads and feel the presence of the God.”‘’Our
father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come; thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and
lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil Amen’’
(Greetings)
“Good day class! How are you today? do feel happy, sad or excited?”(Checking for attendance)Who are absent
today?“Very good! Everyone is present. Let’s clap our hands to ourselves”
(Energizer)
Now let us sing a song entitled ‘’States of matter’’
(Classroom Reminders)
“Before we start our lesson, let us first look back the things that we need to remember in our class. So, we have
5 reminders. First listen and look carefully when others are speaking, second speak kindly and don’t shout, third
raise your hand before speaking, fourth work quietly and fifth be respectful. Those are the things that we need to
do as we go along our lesson. Did you understand?”

a.Elicit

JUMBLED LETTERS QUIZ

Directions: Identify and arrange what is shown on the screen. Raise your hand if you know the answer.

1.RETTAM
2.DILOS

3.SAG
4.DIUQIL

b. Engage

1.Drill

I have several pictures of objectives here. Read the words I indicate as I show them to you.

I am clear?

But before we begin, could you please tell me what you know about matter?

Very good!

2. Review
I have here the real object of solid, liquid, gas. And identify if whether it is solid, liquid or gas, okay?

What form of matter is this?

Very good!

How about this, what form of matter?

Good job! how about the water? what states of matter it belong?

Very good!

c. Explore

Play “Guess the Object”. I have three boxes here named solid, liquid, gas. And I have here a box that contains
different objects. Each of you will pick an object inside the box and classify if it is solid, liquid or gas.

“Before we do that, read the following guidelines on the screen when you are doing an activity”
1. Be cooperative
2. Respect
3. Don’t disturb others

What do you observe about the objects you classify?

Very good!

d. Explain

Discussion
We start our lesson entitled matter and Its properties. Are you excited to learn about this?
So, matter is anything that occupies space and has mass. Everything is made of matter: the food you eat, the
clothes you wear, the water you drink, and even the books, magazines, and gadgets you use. The matter has a
three states the solid, liquid, and gas.

A solid is matter that has a definite shape and volume. Because its particles are packed close
together, a solid is rigid, doesn’t flow, and isn’t easily compressed.

A liquid is a nearly incompressible fluid that conforms to the shape of its container but retains a nearly constant
volume independent of pressure. It is one of the four fundamental states of matter, and is the only state with a
definite volume but no fixed shape.

A gas has no fixed shape or volume. The gas expands until it is uniformly distributed throughout the container,
even in the presence of gravity.

Do you understand?

What is the matter?

Now, let’s talk about the properties of matter. But before that what is the terms of properties?

That’s fantastic! Properties can also help us to identify materials based on their appearance, taste and shape.

So let’s move on the properties of matter, first is physical properties – are characteristics of matter that can be
observed or measured without having to change its composition. These include external characteristics such as
color,shape, size and texture?
Okay?
COLOR refers to the combination of lightness, hue, and saturation. Can you tell me what color this ball is?

Very good!

SHAPE is the property that describes the outline of external appearance of an object.

SIZE describes how big or small an object.

TEXTURE refers to an object's smoothness or roughness. For Example “ Smooth is silk, and rough is
sandpaper"
Do you understand what I'm saying, students?

Very good!
We can now proceed to the next topic, which is chemical properties. These refer to the internal structure of
matter and include properties such as flammability and reactivity.

FLAMMABILITY is the ability of an object to get burned by fire or other strong chemicals. Wood is an example of
flammable materials

REACTIVITY is the ability of matter to charge in composition as manifested by changes in it’s physical
properties, such as its color and its form.
Reactivity is the ability of matter to combine chemically with other substances. Some kinds of matter are
extremely reactive; others are extremely unreactive. For example, potassium is very reactive, even with water.
When a pea-sized piece of potassium is added to a small amount of water, it reacts explosively.

Do you understand the difference

between physical and chemical
properties?

Excellent!
e. Elaborate
What are the general properties of
matter?

What are the special properties of

solid, liquid and gas?

What is the importance of knowing the states of matter in our daily life?

Chemical energy contained in food is the most significant source

of energy for maintaining life. Matter and energy travel together
in food along food chains, hence having the three states of matter
(liquid, solid, and gas) is critical. Matter isn’t something that only exists in a lab; we come into
contact with its hundreds of times every day. Knowing how matter works can help you appreciate intricate
processes that underpin even the most basic of objects

f. Extend

To have a better understanding of our lesson, let’s have another activity. I will group you into 2 groups, each group will
have a 2 to 3 representative. Gather 2- 4 objects to determine what states of matter they belong. I will give you 5 minutes
to think.

g. Evaluate

Insruction: Kindly take your short quiz. You have 10 minutes to finish this quiz.

Read and understand each questions carefully and choose the correct answer. Once finished, you can submit the form.
