A. Preliminary Activities
Good afternoon class! Good afternoon ma’am!

 Prayer
May I ask everybody to please stand for the prayer. (Student A will lead the
Ms. Bolodo please led the prayer. prayer)

Amen.
Amen.
Thank You Ms. Bolodo, class please pick up a piece of
paper under your chairs, and please arrange your
chairs properly. Thank You.

You may take your seats now.

How are you today? Thank You ma'am

Well that’s great. We are all good ma’am.

 Checking of Attendance Thank you ma’am.

Class monitor who are absent today?

None ma’am.
Very good!

Are we all set now?

 Review Yes ma’am.

Okay, before we proceed to our main discussion for
today.

Who among you can still recall our last topic?

Yes, Mr. Bigot?

(Answer may vary)

Very good, on our previous lesson we learn about the
rotation of the earth causes day and night and its Ma’am!
revolution around the sun leads to the existence of
different SEASONS

So, what are does SEASONS?

( Answer may vary)
Yes Ms. Bernus?
Ma’am!
Very good, those are Spring, Summer, Autumn and
Winter
(Answer may vary

Before we start, let’s play a game entitled ‘4 PICS 1

WORD ‘

Okay, let’s start.

(The teacher will present the pictures)

Engage

Based on our game only heat and light don’t have

mass and volume.

Explore So our lesson for today is all about Phases of Matter.

Our learning outcomes are; 1. Understand and
described the 3 Phases of Matter, 2. Give examples of
solids, liquids and Gases.

To fully understand our lesson for today. I will be

giving you a group activity, group yourselves by 4 and
please observe cooperation and collaboration in this
task. You have 10 minutes to accomplish the task.

Is it Matter?
Direction. Put (✔️) if it's matter and put (✖️) if it's not.

_rocks
_baby powder
_milk
_air
_light
_smoke
_salt
_water
_heat
_bacteria
_oxygen
_stars
_dissolved sugar

So based on our group activity, how can you define

MATTER?

Yes Ms. Decaporte?

Explain
Very good! Matter is anything that can
So basically things around us can be matter, even occupies space and has
ourselves are also a matter. mass and volume.

Elaborate So when we say "Matter", it is anything that occupies

space and has volume and mass. Back to our activity,
we put heat and light in the not matter column
because as I mentioned matter occupies space and
has mass and volume. All the things around us are
matter, even the air that we inhale and exhale is also (The students listen very
a matter. carefully)
For example;
Putting your laptop in the table, or when you put
water to a glass, or when you inflate the balloon,
notice that all of them occupy space. In short they are
all matter.

Remember class: matter occupy space.

Volume is a measure of the space occupied by an
object. The amount of the material in a body/ object
is referred to as its mass.

Matter can be classified according to the nature of

particles composing them. They are classified as Solid,
Liquid and Gas.

SOLID
- is the state of matter that has a definite shape and
volume.
The particles of a substance in a solid state is very
close together. The forces between particles are
strong that the particles cannot move freely but can
only vibrate. As a results a solid object has a stable,
definite shape, and a definite volume.

Rocks ma’am
So Ms. Diaz can you please give me an example of
solid?
Yes very good!

So meaning solid can maintain its shape and volume

even when you place it into another container.

LIQUID
- is the state of matter that has a definite volume but
takes the shape of its container.
The particles in liquids move fast enough to
overcome some of the attraction between them. The
particles slide past each other until the liquid takes
the shape of its container. Although liquids change
shape, they do not easily change volume. The volume
stays the same if you pour it in a large or small
container.
Water ma’am

Ms. Naquita can you please give me an example of

Liquid?

Yes very good!

The shape of the water will change based on the
container but its volume will stay the same.

GAS
- is the state of matter that has no definite shape or
volume.
The particles of a gas move very quick and fast. So,
they can break away completely from one another.
There is low attraction between particles of a gas that Smoke/inflated balloon
between particles of the same element in the solid or ma’am
liquid state.
Ms. Sta. Rita can you give me an example of gas?
Yes very good!
So the position of empty space between gas particles
is not fixed.

Summary:
So again, matter is anything that had mass and
volume and occupies space. All physical objects are
made of matter. There are 3 phases of matter the
Solid, Liquid, and Gas.

Evaluate So since we are done discussing phases of matter, we

will have a short quiz regarding to our topic.
Please get 1/4 sheet of paper. So for the direction,
choose the letter of the best answer.

1. It is anything that occupies space and jas volume

and mass.
A. Matter
B. Solid
C. Liquid

2. State of matter that has a definite volume and

shape.
A. Gas
B. Liquid
C. Solid

3. State of matter that has a definite volume but no

definite shape.
A. Liquid
B. Solid
C. Gas

4. State of matter that has no definite volume nor

shape.
A. Solid
B. Liquid
C. Gas

5. The following are examples of matter EXCEPT;

A. Rock
B. Water
C. Sunlight

6. Based on the illustration, what best described

Solid?
A.

B.

C.
Answer key:
1. A
2. C
3. A
4. C
5. C
6. A
So please give yourself a clap for a job well done.
For your assignment, list 10 examples of matter that
you found in your house and then classified it
Extend
whether it is solid, liquid and gas. You will going to
present it next meeting.
Thank you and Goodbye
Thank You and Goodbye class!
ma'am!.
