DETAILED LESSON PLAN

COLLEGE OF EDUCATION SOCIAL STUDIES

I. OBJECTIVES
At the end of the lesson, students are expected to:
1. Enumerate the different landforms and water forms.
2. Discuss how weather and climate affect places and landscapes.
3. Discuss how human activities affect our world climate and suggest solutions to lessen
the problem.
4. Describe the sun and moon and their effects on earth.

II. SUBJECT MATTER

Topic: Global Environment
Materials: Laptop, Power Point, Paper and Ballpen

III. PROCEDURE

Teacher’s Activity Student’s Activity

A. Preliminary Activities

Prayer
Good afternoon class! Good afternoon sir!

Let us start our class with a prayer. Our father, Who art in heaven,
May I call student A to please lead hallowed be Thy name; Thy
our prayer kingdom come; Thy will be done on
earth as it is in heaven. Give us this
day our daily bread; and forgive us
our trespasses as we forgive those
who trespass against us; and lead us
not to temptation, but deliver us
from evil. Amen
House Rules

Thank you. Before we start our

lesson proper, may I remind
everyone in this online class with (Students listen carefully)
the following house rules so that we
can have a smooth flow of
discussion

Attendance

Now let’s check your attendance. Yes sir

When your name is called, say (Students will say present if they
“present” if you are here are around)
Thank you every one for your
complete attendance for today

B. Review of Past Lesson

Last meeting we discussed about

the concept and meaning of Places,
Landscapes and Placelessness and
we also reflected on the
significance of locations and
landscapes, as well as the reasons
for knowing about the many places
and landscapes throughout the
world.

Now to check if you still remember

our previous topic, who would like
to share some highlights of our
discussion last meeting?

Yes student B? I’ve learned that landscapes are the

Very good! Thank you student B visible features of an area of land,
for sharing. Its landforms, and how they
integrate with natural or man-made
features.
Yes Student C?
What have you learned in our I’ve learned that a cultural

Yes Student D. Can you please Placelessness refers to the loss of

looks like the next.

Great job! It appears that you have

all grasped and recalled the topic
that we covered at our last meeting.

B. Developmental Activities
C. Motivation

Now that you are ready for the next

topic, let us first watch this short
video titled “ Mother Earth”
(The teacher will play the video) (The students will watch the video
carefully)

Environment.

Okay, Very good! The Lesson that

we will be discussing this afternoon
is all about the “Global
Environment”

D. Activity

Moving on to our next activity,

This is called “ Find the hidden
word in a Word Puzzle”

Direction: Observe, analyze and

identify the words hidden inside the
grid. The words may be placed in
any direction.

screen) (Students carefully observe and
look for the missing words in the
box)

answer. Yes student E?

How are you going to define or

explain this word? It means Earth sir.

Okay very good.

Any other insights? Student F? Chlorofluorocarbons, sir.

Okay, what is Chlorofluorocarbon? Chemicals containing atoms of

carbon, chlorine and fluorine. It

and also act to trap heat in the lower

have you found in the puzzle?

Okay what is continent? Any of the world's main continuous

expanses of land (Africa,
Antarctica, Asia, Australia, Europe,
Great! Thank you student G. North America, South America).

Any other answers? (Other students also share their

answers)

(The teacher will flash until to the

last set.)

Thank you so much everyone for

actively engaging in our activity.

So again what will be our About the Global Environment po

discussion for today? Yes student
H?

E. Abstraction

Today we will be discussing the

physical component of the Global
Environment which includes the
different landforms and water
forms, the weather and climate, the
sun and moon and their effects on
Earth and other natural phenomena
and how these features and process
affect humans.

If you try to observe our global (Students are listening)

environment you will see that our
environment is practically covered
with land and water. In geography,
one of the main subjects of study is
the physical features of the earth
which comprises mainly the
landforms and water forms. In this
lesson let us focus first on the
landforms.

What are the different landforms? Continents, Mountain and Hills sir.
Student I, do you an idea?

Very Good!

What Else? Student J? Plateaus, Grassland, Dessert

Okay very good, You already have
an idea about the different
landforms in a global environment.

(Teacher discuss about the different (Students are listening and they

it contributes and affects human
existence.)

Let’s move on to the next, what are

the different water forms?

Student K? Can you give an Ocean sir

example of water forms that you
may know?

Okay! What is ocean student K? It is the largest body of water on

Earth.
Correct! Thank you.

How about the others? Sea, bay and lake sir

Yes student J?

What are the differences between Sea is a large body of water almost

part of lake or an ocean that creates
semi-circular indentation along the
shore and lake is completely
encircled by land.

How about the others who would (Other students also share their

description.)

Okay very good, I’m happy that

most of you are already familiar
with the different land and water
forms.

(The teacher discusses the different (Students are listening and focus on
water forms and explains the the discussion)
influence and importance to human
existence and other organisms.)

Going on to our next topic which is

the Climate and Weather, anyone
has an idea about what Climate and
Weather is and what is the
difference between the two.

Student C? Do you have an Idea? Weather is the state of the

Okay! Very Good. atmosphere with respect to heat or
cold, wetness or dryness, calm or
storm, clearness or cloudiness.

How about the Climate? Student D? Climate refers to an average course

or condition of weather at a place

exhibited by temperature, wind
velocity and precipitation.

environmental problems that
considered as climatic conditions
because it affects climates?

Can you give an example student Greenhouse Effect and Global

F? Warming sir.

Okay thank you for sharing student

F.

When we talk about greenhouse (Students listen carefully)

effect this refers to the warming of
the surface and lower atmosphere of
a planet (such as Earth or Venus)
that is caused by conversion of
solar radiation into heat in a process
involving selective transmission of
short waves solar radiation by the
atmosphere, its absorption by the
planet’s surface, and reradiation as
infrared which is absorbed and
partly radiated back to the surface
by atmospheric gases.

Global warming is an increase in

the Earth’s atmospheric and oceanic
temperature widely predicted to
occur due to an increase of
greenhouse effect resulting
especially from pollution.

(For the last topic the teacher (Students listen carefully, actively
discuss about the Sun and Moon engage in discussion, share their
and their effect on earth) ideas, insight and opinions about
the topic)

F. Application

DIRECTION: Answer the

following questions briefly.

1. As a student, what do you think

is the importance of studying and
acquiring a vast knowledge about
the different features of Global
Environment?
2. Suggest a solution on how to
mitigate or lessen the impact of
man-made and natural phenomena
that brought changes and problems
to human lives and environment.

IV. Assessment
Direction: Compare and contrast the following landforms and water forms.

1. River and Canal

2. Straits and Stream

3. Ocean and Seas

4. Highland and Low Lands

5. Continent and Island

6. Mountain and Hill

7. Valley and Desert

8. Volcano and Plateau

V. Assignment

Make an advance reading about The Changing World and be ready for the next meeting.
